Dear Incoming Kindergarteners,
Congratulations for completing Pre-K! We are very
excited that you will be joining us for kindergarten for the
2017-2018 school year.
While having fun during the summer months, please
remember to keep your brain active and engaged! We are
sending home a “Summer Packet” of activities for you to
complete of the summer. Your “Summer Packet” consists
of two parts: READING and MATH! 😊
Please work on the assignments over the summer months
and hand it in to your kindergarten teacher. It is DUE ON
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 2017.
On the following pages, you will find READING activities
and MATH WORKSHEETS for you to complete over the
summer.
Please read the instructions for each activity to complete
the assignment successfully. Feel free to “go beyond” the
minimum expectations! These activities are planned to
keep our brains turned on this summer; so that you will be
ready for kindergarten, and not forget all that you have
learned in Pre-K.
Have a wonderful, safe summer, and we will see you in
August!
READING:
There are about 10 full weeks of summer
vacation. We ask that you visit your local library
to get a library card for your child. You may also
use books that you have at home. We ask that
you read 8-10 books during the summer.
After you read each book with your child, please
complete the form on the following page. Use one
form for each book that is read.
COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING PAGES WITH
YOUR CHILD:
1) Have your child print his/her name on the
top line.
2) Have your child print the TITLE of the
BOOK on the next line.
3) Have your child DRAW a PICTURE about
his/her favorite part of the story.
4) WRITE a few words about the story on the
lines provided.
OTHER SKILLS TO WORK ON OVER THE
SUMMER:
Please read with your child daily. Oral
reading is an integral part of our
Kindergarten program.
Please work with your child so that he/she is
able to recognize all of the letters of the
alphabet, both uppercase and lowercase.
While you are outside, ask your child, “What
letter does grass begin with?” – flowers,
pool, etc. You may also do these same
activities while you are driving in the car.
Please practice recognizing and printing
numbers from one to ten.
Please practice printing the letters of the
alphabet A-Z.
Please practice printing the letters in your
child’s first name.
