Summer newsletter about the youth events at Well Street Church
Citation preview
Hello!
Welcome to second termly Youth at Well Street newsletter. Thank you to
those of you who sent feedback about the last one, I’ve tried to take on
board the feedback, but please continue to speak to me & let me know
what you think.
Preparations are rapidly underway for our annual Holiday Club taking
place from 2nd-6th August. The theme “Discover the truth behind the
mystery” looks to be exciting and we are confident that God is going to
do amazing things there.
When I look at my weekly schedule I realise that there is quite a lot that
goes on in the youth work, and inevitably it is difficult to let every single
person know about every single aspect.
My hope and prayer for this newsletter is that you, whoever you area and
whatever your interest is in the youth work at Well Street, will feel more
informed and more aware of what is going on.
Thanks for reading, God bless!
Nick Francis
Youth Minister
SUMMER TERM 2010
Last Term
This last term saw a exciting things begin, some new ideas
come out and very positive growth within the youth work.
React has been steadily growing over the
past few months—we are now averaging
between 12-15 young people on a
Saturday night which is fantastic. Quite a
few of these young people don’t attend
Well Street, so don’t be surprised if you
don’t see them at our services every week!
Housegroups continued to meet and
enjoyed a variety of activities and studies.
Growing Leaders also began with an
introduction evening in February—there
will be more on that later on in the
newsletter.
NEWS...
What are we learning?
A brief paragraph on what groups are studying this term:
React are going “back to basics” exploring topics such as
“What does it mean to be a Christian”, “Do we need the Bi-
ble?” and “What about prayer?”. Housegroups are studying
a wide variety of topics, a four part study on different events
on Acts interspersed with studies on topics such as evolu-
tion, the influence of the media and forgiveness.
Proteens are taking a different tack to previous terms. In-
stead of studying the church’s housegroup topics we are
looking at 1 Peter and the Psalms over the whole term using
studies produced by the Youthwork magazine.

COMING UP...
There is a lot coming up in this
next term—so much so that I
wanted to devote the majority of
this newsletter to it. I have a
feeling this term will be one to
remember!
The Big Event
Over the past couple of terms we
have introduced 2 social events
in each term—at half term and
the end of term. These socials
are open to all the youth and aim
to be as inclusive as possible.
At the end of last term the youth
team decided that it would be
good to end the term with a big
event—something where we
could all come together, worship,
have fun and finish the term on a
high. This event would be
primarily run and led by the older
youth.
This is happening on July 10th,
which may seem early but the
majority of schools break up on
July 16th and I want to get as
many young people as possible
before holidays begin! Watch
out for publicity.
Fundraising
Over the past few years we have
sent a number of young people
away on gap years. This has
depleted the gap year fund. Also, as
I am sure you are aware the church
is investigating the possibility of new
premises through 1 Church 100
Uses.
Over the next five months we will be
doing a series of fund raising events
to raise money for the gap year fund
and the building fund.
This is the plan for the events:
May: Sponsored 24 hour famine
June: Cake sales in all services
July: Young person/talent auction
August: Car wash
September: Sponsored mile
Please support us and the young
people in this, and look out for
details coming your way soon!
Soul Survivor
This year we are looking at taking a
group of young people away to Soul
Survivor. Soul Survivor is a 5 day
Christian festival in Shepton Mallett
aimed exclusively at young people.
There is excellent worship, fantastic
talks, a wide range of seminars,
skate park, coffee shops, gigs and
so much more! Soul Survivor is from
11th-15th August and it would be
great to take as many young people
as we can.

THIS TERM CONT’D… Hill End
How can I not mention Hill End?!
I know it’s not happening this
term but it’s important to get the
dates in your diary early for this
fantastic annual camp to the
b e a u t i f u l O x f o r d s h i r e
countryside. This year the
theme is “Keep Your Faith Alight”
- we want to look at equipping
our young people with the tools
they need to keep their faith
burning all year round.
Dates are 17th-19th September.
Promotional material will be out
soon.
Growing Leaders
Growing Leaders is a course
designed by CPAS to help
Christians develop and grow
their leadership potential and
give them a strong Christian
foundation. Well Street started
running this course in April with a
2 4 - h o u r d a y a w a y i n
Thornborough. We are running it
with the rest of the circuit and
have young people from Bicester
and Silverstone also attending.
The course will run for 8 months.
Please pray for all the young
people involved in the course,
and for us as we run it!
