Happy Summer, everyone! I hope you have been enjoying a busy summer making lots of money, OR a quiet summer getting lots of rest, depending on what you were hoping for. We have completed five rounds of Preview: FSU for our new freshman class, and we have placed

all of those with housing requests in their rooms, mostly to their satisfaction. Now, the questions begin: Can I change rooms? Can I change roommates? Can I bring my llama?

Actually, I made that one up, but here are a couple of actual questions we have fielded this summer:

“Can I get my bed lofted higher than a high loft? Last year, whenever I sat at my desk, my hair got caught in the bed springs.”

“If I get my bed lofted, will I still have a clear view of my TV?”

Well, we’ll do our best to get all questions answered before you all get back in August, but I have a feeling there will still be plenty left for you when the students return.

Now I’ll fill you in on what has been going on this summer and what changes you can expect when you return:

Simpson Hall renovations are continuing, with a completion date scheduled for mid-August. As with every year, we are keeping our fingers crossed that the work will be completed before the hall staff arrives; I am optimistic, as usual! Simpson will also

have all new furniture as well;

The Freshman class is expected to be about the same size as last year; this means less overcrowding and more flexibility for students to move around as the semester goes

on;

Cumberland Hall will have new mattresses this fall; this leaves Frederick as the only hall still using the older, tan mattresses instead of the newer blue ones;

All of the MicroFridges have been replaced with brand new ones; the new models also feature two electric outlets next to the microwave, to be used for charging phones

and other low-wattage electronic items, freeing up valuable power-strip space for all residents.

And, of course, we will kick off the new school year with a dynamic residential staff, featuring talented returners and brilliant rookies. All of us who have stayed in Frostburg this summer are preparing for your return and looking forward to a fantastic new

year!

Director: Debbie Daniels

Assistant Director of Operations: Randi Kaltrider

Debbie Daniels became the Director of Edgewood Apartments in April. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Sacred Heart University in CT, a Master of Science in Secondary Education and an Education Specialist De-gree in Science Teacher Education from the University of Tennessee. Debbie recently moved here from Washington State with her husband, two dogs, two cats, and two kids. In her spare time, she enjoys training and competing in

Greetings and Salutations to all of the new and returning staff

members of the RLO/Edgewood family! My name is Randi

Kaltrider and I am the Assistant Director of Operations at

Edgewood Commons. I am originally from Carroll County,

Maryland, but I have called Frostburg my home-away-from-

home for the past nine years. I earned my Bachelor of Science

degree in 2008 in Elementary Education, and I earned my

Master of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction for

Elementary Education in 2010. Like many of you, I began my

leadership on this campus as a RA (6th floor, Cambridge Hall!).

Over the years I developed my leadership skills further by

becoming a HR, a RD, and then in 2009, I assumed the role of

Graduate Assistant at Edgewood Commons. In 2010, I stayed

on the Edgewood staff professionally as the Assistant Director

of Residential Programs. Over the years I have supervised

many great leaders, and I am motivated by helping others

grow and develop. I am an educator by heart, and I love

working with college students. I can’t wait to meet you/see you

again this fall! Remember, “if your actions inspire others to

dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a

leader.”-John Quincy Adams

OH HEY RLO!

I'm Bethany Tognocchi and I will be the RD of the fabulous Cumberland Hall for the second year in a row. I'm currently

beginning my second year of graduate school at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) where I'm studying Student

Affairs in Higher Education. I hear you asking yourself "Well wait a minute Bethany, you're not actually a student at Frostburg?"

and you are absolutely correct! I graduated from Towson University in May of 2011 and decided that I wanted to make Frostburg the next stop on my journey into my beloved field. I

have had the best experiences so far and have grown to love the students, faculty, and staff at FSU. When I'm not supervising the

best RA staff on campus, I enjoy arts & crafts sessions and making my famous dirt cake for my favorite people (its more

popular than I am). Get pumped for a great year!
