PARISH RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
(PREP) classes have begun the New Year.
Grades K-3 meet on Sunday (9:30-10:45 am),
Grades 4-8 on Tuesday (6:30-8:00pm) and
High school on Wednesday (6:30-8:00pm).
Registration forms are available in the gathering area.
All children and teens are expected to attend PREP until
completion of high school.

Catechetical Sunday - This weekend
we will recognize and commission the
Catechists who have answered the call to
share their faith with our children, youth and adults.
Catechetical Sunday is a wonderful opportunity for all of us
to reflect on how we hand down the faith and are being a
witness to the Gospel.
Let us all join the Catechists and rededicate ourselves to the
mission we were called to at baptism to share our faith with
others.

asked to think of a theme, fill a basket with

Saturday, October 6th before 9am.
*Gather a group of friends to create a “themed”
basket for the basket raffle. Please drop off your
baskets no later than Sunday, September 30th.
*Buy and sell RAFFLE TICKETS. Tickets will be
sold up to the last drawing.
*Attend the festival on Saturday, October 6.

BLESSING OF THE PETS
We will have a Blessing of the Pets on Tuesday,
October 2nd at 6:30 pm.
All pets should be on a leash or in a cage.
Pets are an important part of our lives, but they will not be
allowed in the PRE classrooms.

LIFE CHAIN -- All are invited to stand
on Church Road in front of Christ the
King, to silently pray for an end to
abortion on Sunday, October 7th from 2 to 3 pm. Life Chain
is a national event, hundreds will be standing across the
nation united in prayer. Make plans to join us, bring your
family and lawn chairs.

As so many of us are aware, the pain and destruction of
child abuse is something our Church is confronting.
Sadly, many have been hurt by the actions of clergy and
even by the response of various institutional responses.
Together with all those who have been hurt by this
scandal, we offer our apology and commitment to work
toward healing. As part of this commitment, we urge
anyone who has been the victim of abuse to report the
matter to law enforcement or to the diocesan victim
coordinator, Ms. Valerie McClellan at 601-326-3728.
There are some facts that we think worth sharing with
you:
The diocese has had a policy to respond
to allegations of misconduct since 1987.
In 2002 the Diocese of Jackson met with
the Mississippi Attorney General’s office
to review all known allegations of
misconduct against minors.
To date, more than 15,000 volunteers
have been screened with a criminal
background check prior to working with
young people.
The diocese does audits to ensure
compliance with safe environment
policies in all parishes and schools.
Any allegation of misconduct with a
minor is referred to the Mississippi
Department of Child Protective Services.

Response to the crisis in
the Catholic Church
A CALL TO HOLINESS BY POPE FRANCIS.
3. The Letter to the Hebrews presents a
number of testimonies that encourage us to
“run with perseverance the race that is set
before us” (12:1). It speaks of Abraham,
Sarah, Moses, Gideon and others (cf. 11:1-
12:3). Above all, it invites us to realize that
“a great cloud of witnesses” (12:1) impels us
to advance constantly towards the goal.
These witnesses may include our own
mothers, grandmothers or other loved ones
(cf. 2 Tim 1:5). Their lives may not always
have been perfect, yet even amid their faults
and failings they kept moving forward and
proved pleasing to the Lord.
4. The saints now in God’s presence preserve
their bonds of love and communion with us.
The Book of Revelation attests to this when
it speaks of the intercession of the martyrs: “I
saw under the altar the souls of those who
had been slain for the word of God and for
the witness they had borne; they cried out
with a loud voice, ‘O sovereign Lord, holy
and true, how long will it be before you
judge?’” (6:9-10). Each of us can say:
“Surrounded, led and guided by the friends
of God… I do not have to carry alone what,
in truth, I could never carry alone. All the
saints of God are there to protect me, to
sustain me and to carry me”.[1]

3. En la carta a los Hebreos se mencionan
distintos testimonios que nos animan a que
«corramos, con constancia, en la carrera que
nos toca» (12,1). Allí se habla de Abraham,
de Sara, de Moisés, de Gedeón y de varios
más (cf. 11,1-12,3) y sobre todo se nos invita
a reconocer que tenemos «una nube tan
ingente de testigos» (12,1) que nos alientan a
no detenernos en el camino, nos estimulan a
seguir caminando hacia la meta. Y entre ellos
puede estar nuestra propia madre, una abuela
u otras personas cercanas (cf. 2 Tm
1,5). Quizá su vida no fue siempre perfecta,
pero aun en medio de imperfecciones y
caídas siguieron adelante y agradaron al
Señor.
4. Los santos que ya han llegado a la
presencia de Dios mantienen con nosotros
lazos de amor y comunión. Lo atestigua el
libro del Apocalipsis cuando habla de los
mártires que interceden: «Vi debajo del altar
las almas de los degollados por causa de la
Palabra de Dios y del testimonio que
mantenían. Y gritaban con voz potente:
“¿Hasta cuándo, Dueño santo y veraz, vas a
estar sin hacer justicia?”» (6,9-10). Podemos
decir que «estamos rodeados, guiados y
conducidos por los amigos de Dios […] No
tengo que llevar yo solo lo que, en realidad,
nunca podría soportar yo solo. La
muchedumbre de los santos de Dios me
protege, me sostiene y me conduce»[1].
