“Mmmm.Twice a week or less.Mmmm.”
Water Your Lawn Just Twice A Week Or Less.
Save Water. Nothing Can Replace It.
Y our lawn needs less water than you think. Even in a Texas August, watering twice a week or less gives your lawn all
the water it needs.
EASY DOES IT. Most people water too much. Way too much. That not only wastes water, it’s bad for your lawn. Thorough, infrequent watering promotes deeper roots which produces a stronger, healthier lawn.
MMMM. MULCH. MULCH. MULCH. A nice 3-4 inch layer of mulch around your shrubs, trees and in owerbeds helps retain moisture and limits weed growth. Plus, mulched beds make any landscape look better. Just ask your shrubs.
Think you have what it takes to whisper to your lawn? Visit SAVENORTHTEXASWATER.COM.

6 F O R T W O R T H W E E K L Y SUMMER 2013
Summer isn’t a season in Texas, it’s a lifestyle. While
temperatures climb into the 110 degree area and linger for a couple months, it can actually be a great time to get out and explore what Tarrant County has to offer. Here are ideas that can easily get you through Labor Day and
into the less balmy days of autumn in the Lone Star State.
Borrow a BikeFort Worth Bike Sharing is an affordable way of getting around town for some sightseeing thanks to 300 specially designed Trek
bicycles available for checkout from 30 docking stations located throughout downtown, Near Southside, and the Cultural District. Check out fortworthbikesharing.org.
Jump in a lakeTarrant County has lakes in every corner. Take advantage of the cool waters fishing, boating, camping, hiking and other fun outdoor activities. Some like Lake Grapevine even have amenities like kayak and paddle boat rentals.
Chill out Spend the day at the movies. Movie Tavern locations throughout Fort Worth celebrate the classics with Retro Cinema on Wednesdays and Thursdays. With a full menu, cocktails, and summer blockbusters (ok, and air conditioning that will make you forget it’s blistering outside), why would you ever leave?
FaCe the musiCThe Fort Worth Weekly Music Awards Festival is Sun, June 23 at eight venues throughout the West 7th corridor. Forty eight of the best bands in Tarrant County take the stage starting at 4pm and wrap up by 10pm. Best part – it’s free.
Frosty BeverageChill out with a schooner of your favorite frosty brew or sip on a delicious summer cocktail. Need ideas? See page 30 for recipes.
Cheer on the home team Summer is baseball season and the Fort Worth Cats love a sell-out hometown crowd. The Cats play hosts to teams hailing from San Angelo, Alexandria, the Rio Grand Valley and others throughout the summer. So with a hotdog in one hand and

a cold brew in the other, plus fireworks ending every winning home game – how American can you get?
get pamperedDid you know a key element in helping us relax and feel better is to be touched? So consider being pampered by a professional to be part of your happy human duty. Studies show frequency of spa use is linked to better physical and mental health and who doesn’t need some extra happy in the hot summer months?
watermelon Binge Farmers markets are all over Tarrant County, plus grocers like Central Market have large selections of fresh and organic produce. This time of year, stock up on watermelon – the summer staple contains a significant amount of water that can thin the blood and help your body to release heat.
retail therapyResearchers have found that shop therapy not only works to improve moods because of the delight in receiving self-gifts, but also if you chose not to buy something, the restraint you show yourself actually boosts your mood proving perhaps restraint was the goal to make yourself feel better. So hang out in the shopping havens of West 7th Street, Arlington Highlands, Southlake Townsquare or one of the many other shopping meccas around town, stop in that mom-and-pop boutique and enjoy.

African-American artist Romare Bearden created a landmark series of collages and watercolors based on Homer’s classic work of Western literature, The Odyssey. Through the approximately 50 works of art, Bearden recasts Homer’s celebrated heroes and villains as black people, transforming the epic poem into a poignantly universal story. Romare Bearden: A Black Odyssey is on display now thru August 11.
“Four-Cornered Hat”, made of feathers, cotton, and reed, is from 600-1000.
“Home to Ithaca” is one of Romare Bearden’s interpretations of The Odyssey.
