Congratulations to Phoebe Taylor, 2024 whose play,

Brightly and Jade, was per-formed at the CEntERStaGE

2013 young Playwrights Festival in april. her play was selected out of over 350 entries. this is

CEntERStaGE’s highest hon-or and only five other plays were awarded in this way.

3rd Grade student Olamide Oyenusi was excited to play young Eponine in loyo la Blakefield’s production of Les Miserables in march.

S e v e n t e e n l o w e r School students ran to represent RPCS Girls on the Run team in may. the participating students were 5th Graders Molly Booth, Holly Brakebill, M a e v e C o r c o r a n , E l i z a b e t h C u r r i e ,

Elizabeth Goodale, Abby Nichols and Meghan Stasko; 4th Graders Amera Henson, Audrey Herskovits, Jordyn James, Meredith McGowan, Mary Poggi and Kayla White; 3rd Graders Katie Connors, Charlotte Corcoran, Zuri Hurley, and Kennedy Richardson.

Seven 8th Graders, Charlotte Kim, Ariel Egbunine, Julia Ball, Sophia Shippe, Victoria Carroll, Rebecca Mathew, Liz Schlerf and Maris Becker participated in the annual diversity Conference sponsored by Eastern Educational Col labora t ive in January. the theme was creating a safe and inclusive school environment. over 300 students and teachers from md-dC-Va independent and public schools attended. Kaliq Simms, director of diversity and Equity Education, and Kim Wilson, library assistant, were their chaperones.

Oyinade Oyenusi, 2019 and Charlotte Kim, 2017 competed in the 8th Baltimore Bee in march. oyinade made it to round three and tied for third place. Charlotte went all the way to round ten and came in fourth place. Congratulations to both!

Congratulations to 7th Grader Lacey Johnson who won second place amongst 6th to 8th Graders in the 2013 national Chinese composition com-petition sponsored by the Confucius Institute at university of Portland. this is only her second year learning Chinese!

In the StEm Institute, 8th Graders Hailey Morris, Marianna Salvatori and Sally Askew

were named national Finalists in the 2012–2013 Siemens We Can Change the Wor ld Chal lenge! , sponsored by Siemens, discovery Education and the national Science teachers’ association

(nSta). their project, Erosion Stoppers, was a response to the challenge to create sustainable, reproducible environmental improvements in their local communities.

three other 8th Grade teams competed in the toshiba/nSta ExploraVision science com-petition which encourages students to imagine what technology might be like in the future. Congratulations to the following teams who re-ceived honorable mentions: Julia Garber and Danielle Chalecki for Cancer Cell destructor; Ariel Egbunine and Sophie Shippe for Curatio treatment; and Mia Thomas and Lindsey Feinstein for arth-o-Glaze.

Ariana Rodriguez, 2016 competed in the Chesapeake Region Volleyball association Regionals tournament held in Boyds, md. She plays for Baltimore Elite 16’s and they won the championship in their division.

Carolina tar devils and was the sole goalie. Congratulations to Regan who had three shut-out games in the tournament. Regan also played in the Field hockey Festival tournament in Florida in november.

the Footlights theatre Ensemble (FtE), spearheaded by Claire Utermohle, 2013 held a halloween movie night in the fall and a bake sale to raise money for the hampden Family Center’s afterschool program. they raised over $200. In march, FtE went to the hampden Family Center and played theatre games with the children. the FtE mem-bers were seniors Tina Canady, Lizzie Jaspan, Blair Warren, Fannon Curtis, Anne Holly and Tye Lewis; juniors Eva Frankel, Erin Penn and Kara Powell.

Six middle School students took part in the inaugural Girls in Gear math competition in march. Representing the 8th Grade were Charlotte Kim and Rebecca Mathew; representing the 7th Grade were Jaden Kielty and Emma Shaw and representing the 6th Grade were Casey Feinstein and Taja Washington. out of the top 5 teams, four had a representative from RPCS, including the first place team, on which 6th Grader Casey Feinstein participated.

Congratulations to senior Martha Isaacs who has been named a morehead-Cain Scholar. the country’s oldest and most prestigious merit scholar-ship award program, the morehead-Cain provides a four-year merit scholarship to the university of north Carolina at Chapel hill where martha will enroll. this is the third RPCS morehead-Cain Scholar in the past four years.

kudos to Jillian DiPasquale, 2009 who made the dean’s list at Bucknell university during the spring semester of the 2012–2013 academic year.

Congratulations to Ellie Murphy, 2011 who was chosen as Southern athletic association’s (Saa) Women’s lacrosse player of the week. She then went on to score 8 goals at the Saa semi-final and final games. her team captured their first Saa tournament championship following an undefeated season.

Congratulations to Peggy Boutilier Williams, 1994 who was one of nine people inducted into Virginia lacrosse hall of Fame in march.

Kelsey Twist Schroeder, 2001, dean of Students, presented at the national Coalition of Girls’ Schools annual conference, Launching Future Leaders: Preparing Today’s Girls to Shape Tomorrow’s World in Boston in June. kelsey shared her details of her leadership in literature senior elective on a panel entitled Leadership in Action.

Congratulations to Melissa Nichols, upper School Spanish, who has received a scholarship from the Embassy of Spain and the american association of teachers of Spanish and Portuguese to take a graduate course for three weeks in July at the university of Salamanca in Spain. the course is called Spanish Language and Culture: Images of Spain for Spanish Teachers from the United States and Canada.

Congratulations to Lois Miller, director of athletics, who won, for the second time, the maryland State athletic director’s district 10 athletic director of the year award.

Duncan Booth, director of Finance, has been named assistant treasurer of the association of Independent maryland-dC Schools for the 2013–2014 academic year. the following year he will assume the position of treasurer.

the Juanita Jackson mitchell: Crusader for Freedom traveling Exhibit was on display in the rotunda of the minnesota State Capitol in St Paul, minnesota in early may. Governor mark dayton of minnesota; Wilhelmina Wright, Esq., first african american appointee to the minnesota Supreme Court; Jeff martin, President of the St Paul, minnesota Branch of the naaCP and Micah Mitchell Hines, Esq., 1995, General Counsel to the Governor were the speakers at a special program in honor of the exhibit. Evelyn McClarry, Co-director of the Juanita Jackson mitchell multicultural Resource Center and Janice Moore, director of libraries and Co-director of the Juanita Jackson mitchell multicultural Resource Center, the creators of the exhibit, both attended.

on Sunday, april 14 RPCS held its third annual Red hot Run 5k and Family Fun Walk. Proceeds from the race will benefit the Endowment for Faculty Compensation and the Endowment for Student Financial assistance. With over 345 registrants from RPCS and the surrounding community, many of our own students, parents, alumni and faculty members were among the top finishers in the run.

Golf wins Again!!! With a score of 79, mary Bryan

owen, 2015 led the Reds to the Iaam a Conference

Golf Championship title for the seventh year in a row and claimed the individual title for

the second consecutive year. In addition, RPCS golfers fin-ished 1, 2, 3 and 4—mary Bryan owen, 2015, alexis Emmett, 2015, lyndsey miller, 2013 and kim Credit, 2013!

Badminton: RPCS Badminton was undefeated in their regu-lar season matches and also won the Iaam a Conference Championship. katie tutrone, 2013 won the singles title and Casey Wong, 2014 was the runner-up. Sister teams of Isabella & natalie thomas were runner’s up in doubles and Blair & landon Warren were runner’s up in consolation doubles.
