Application Procedure in general

Why internships?

An opportunity to get a very good research experience

An opportunity to explore a new country

Develop contacts, learn networking

Attend conferences, meet professors, publish papers

Possible offer for a PhD/Masters/Job

Resume Length-Maximum 2 -2.5 pages

Mention the best 4-5 projects only, with details of every project and a

link

Go through 10-15 resumes before drafting your own

Get it verified by seniors and professors at VIT

Make the resume in Latex. Download Texmaker and start using it now!

Error free, spacious and honest

Mention achievements, research papers or publications.

Do not copy templates, make your own template and keep iterating it

to get the best possible output.

A good resume takes about a week, even more in some cases.

Cover Letter

Contact professors only if your research interests matches

that of the professor

Do not spam, every mail should be drafted separately

Mention the papers you read, what you liked, what could

improve

Mention the time period, and motivation behind the

internship

No generic / “Dear Sir” emails.

Recommendation Letters

Should be honest, and speak well about the student

Professor should know the student personally

Take it from a professor who you have done a project/research

under which was really successful

No generic letters, confirm that with your professor

Give an initial draft, only if required

Forward your resume, statement of purpose to the professor so

that he knows about the kind of research you are looking at.
