SUMMER HEAT RELIEF KITS On any given day, about 6,000 individuals experience homelessness in Maricopa County. Many are experiencing homelessness for the first time possibly due to a job loss, home foreclosure, medical bills, or a variety of other circumstances. Other individuals have been homeless for a year or more, or multiple periods (chronic), and have a disability. Chronically homeless individuals, about 20% of the homeless population, usually have other conditions that prevent them from ending their homelessness permanentlly such as physical disability, untreated mental health, or substance abuse.
