Summer Fun Are Here!
“The Voice” Crowns a
Champion! Maelyn
Jarmon Wins Season 16 Reported by Brianne Tracy
Online from People Magazine – May 21, 2019
Congratulations, Maelyn Jarmon!
The 26-year-old singer – who has
become known for her powerhouse vocals
– was crowned the winner of season of The
Voice on Tuesday night (May 21, 2019).
Jarmon’s win marks the first victory for
new coach John Legend, who adds the
accomplishment to his EGOT (Emmy,
Grammy, Oscar and Tony) winning status.
Jarmon beat out Blake Shelton’s three
country-singing contestants: runner-up
Gyth Rigdon, Dexter Roberts, who placed
third, and Andrew Sevener, who placed
fourth.
“I really love Blake and I’ve really
enjoyed getting to know him this year.
He’s a very arrogant bastard,” Legend told
reporters at the winner’s press conference
following the show. “I had a feeling he was
going to kiss someone’s ass after this show
and I was right.”
About 20 of Jarmon’s friends and
family members sporting “Maelyn” shirts
were in the audience supporting the singer.
Cheers turned to tears of joy as Jarmon
took home the prize, with her boyfriend
Johnny Murrell joining her onstage shortly
after her win. An ecstatic Legend, 40,
joined the party as well, with wife Chrissy
Teigen tweeting. “This is literally the
happiest I’ve ever seen John ever????”
Since the blind auditions, Jarmon has
held the attention of the coaches and
viewers everywhere with her incredible
voice and touching story. At 2 years old,
Jarmon had tubes inserted into her ears to
treat recurring ear infections.
Unfortunately, the tubes ended up
damaging her eardrums and left her deaf in
her right ear and with only 80% hearing in
the left ear.
That didn’t stop Jarmon, though, as she
has pursued a career in music since she was
13 and continues to see her deafness as her
superpower.

Have you notice? Few months ago, Paul
Smith drove on I-49 and took a
picture. Crew members had
installed many new traffic
cameras at everywhere on I-49.
Don’t be alarmed!
You can find the website of
idrivearkansas.com and you
will see “traffic light” icon at
the bottom left corner. Click on
that icon and you will see the
words “Traffic Camera.” Make
sure to add check box “on.”
You will see many camera
logos on the roads. Pick one
and it will pop up to become
seeing “Live” on the highway. This is why the monitor
at the ARDOT station watching on the road to make
sure everything is safe. If an accident appears, they
will contact the emergency crews to be on the way.
Another news, there was a ribbon cutting at the
new interchange of I-49 and 8th Street in Bentonville,
Arkansas April 24, 2019.
This interchange provided a direct connection to
allow traffic to feed directly into the heart of the city
in Bentonville, and of course they will have the
Walmart complex over there that will greatly benefit
from this new construction.

Deaf Woman Files Complaint
After She Says Judge Denied Her
Sign Language Interpreter Reported from KAIT.com (TV8 News Online)
Jonesboro, Arkansas – June 28, 2019
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KOAT/CNN) – The
American Civil Liberties Union of New Mexico said a
judge violated the rights of a deaf woman by denying
her an interpreter during a hearing.
Selene Alverio said
experiencing discrimination
isn’t new to her.
“This is something that
happens repeatedly, over and
over again,” Alverio said.
She showed up to the
Bernalillo County Metro
Court for a civil hearing on
November 6. When the
hearing started, she told Judge
Daniel Ramczyk she needed a sign language
interpreter but her request was denied.
The court requires those who need disability
accommodations to contact the court’s ADA
(American with Disabilities Act) coordinator no later
than 48 hours before the scheduled court date. Alverio
said she did that about two weeks prior to her court
date but they said it was too late and denied her
request.
“This kind of behavior really undermines the
integrity of the bench,” said Katie Joeppner, of the
ACLU of New Mexico. “When Judge Daniel Ramcyzc
denied Miss Alverio as ASL interpreter, he denied her
the ability to defend herself. He also denied her basic
respect and dignity.”
The day she appeared in court, she told the judge
she needed an interpreter, but it was also denied.
Alverio and the ACLU of New Mexico filed a
discrimination complaint with the U.S. Department of
Justice against the judge and the court.
She believes all this could have been avoided.
A spokesperson for the Bernalillo County
Metropolitan Court sent a statement saying “the court
cannot comment on pending litigation.” The
spokesperson did say that Ramczyk is no longer with
the court.
He’s now been appointed as a district judge. Copyright 2019 KOAT via CNN. All rights reserved.

Continued from front page.
“I’ve considered it a superpower since I was
young,” she told reporters on Monday night ahead of
the finale. “It was never discussed as a disability
through my house. It was never really talked about
much at all.”
“I didn’t know how [the show] was going to turn
out because I had never been on this kind of platform
or worked with in-ears before and that had its own
challenges,” she continued. “Last week, my in-ears
went out halfway through my performance, and I
couldn’t hear anything anymore. When that has
happened to me before this show because I sometimes
can’t hear. I’ll go based off feeling. I was able to do
that in that moment because of my practice with that in
the past. It has been, sometimes, an issue but mostly
an advantage.”
Throughout her time on the show, the Texas native
has stunned week after
week with her renditions
of songs like Leonard
Cohen’s “Hallelujah” and
“Rihanna’s Story.” On
Monday night, coach
Adam Levine predicted
that she would take home
the title.
“Everyone in the finale is fantastic, but I believe
you are the one who should be winning this thing,” he
said.
The star-studded finale also featured performances
by Taylor Swift and Brendon Urie, BTS, the Jonas
Brothers, Halsey, Khalid, OneRepublic and Hootie &
the Blowfish.
Working On New Reconstruction I-49
Interchange in Rogers and Bentonville Rewritten by Paul Smith
(Summary from Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
Reported by Ron Wood – May 26, 2019)
The construction has started few months ago and it
will be a different kind of interchange at Interstate 49
and U.S. 71B between Rogers and Bentonville,
Arkansas.
The project is expected to be completed in August
2010, according to Arkansas Department of
Transportation officials. The low bidder was
Fayetteville- based APAC-Arkansas at $26.89 million.
The single-point urban interchange will feature one
light controlling all traffic going on and off the
interstate and on 71B, which is Walton Boulevard in
Bentonville and Walnut Street in Rogers. The
interchange will be the first of its kind in Arkansas.

PHOTOS OF NWAAD MOM & DAD PARTY
Northwest Arkansas Association of the Deaf had
their “Mom and Dad” Party at John Powell Senior
Center in Springdale, Arkansas June 1, 2019. There
were 21 people attending in the party. The usually
Mother’s Day Party should be in May each year but
there was no party this year during that time because
there was conflicted that another event had planned.
Father’s Day Party is normally in June. However, one
of the board members thinks that should be fair to
have both Mothers and Fathers together for this year. There is plenty food leftover. Who wants some more?
