Registration and Web Access I N F O R M A T I O N

All admitted students may advance register via the web. Web registration is accessible 24 hours a day, except for occasional service time. Go to www.ecc.edu and follow the instructions below. Step 1

Login on www.ecc.edu Step 2

Click on MyECC located at the top of the page and login using your SUNY Erie login and password. Your SUNY Erie pass-word and username can be obtained by logging into myusername.ecc.edu *See login information below Step 3

Once you are in MyECC go to the Admissions and Registration box located at the left hand side of the page and click on Course Registration in the drop down box. Step 4

To register select the area under Registration that best describes which process you would like to accomplish. Most current stu-dents would select Register for Sections and then Express Registration. You must know the synonym number for the course in order to work in this area. Students that do not know the synonym number or are looking for a course can use the Search and Register for Sections area. In this area you must select the term before you proceed to the course selection area. Remember if you are not using Express Registration and are looking for a course to only use the course three number designa-tion in the Course Number area. Do not put in the subject in this field only the three number designations for the course (For example use 110 not EN 110). When you have completed your input click on the Submit toggle and await the results. Step 5

The results of your registration will be shown on the screen once you submit and it is processed. At this point you can view your account, add or drop classes or log off. Please pay strict attention to the bill due dates listed on the introductory page of the registration module, as you will be cancelled for nonpayment if this bill is not paid by the due date. Step 6

To Make a Payment toggle allows you to make a full or partial payment on-line. Please note that you will not receive a Schedule/Bill through the mail as a result of your Web registration. You are responsible for downloading a copy of your sched-ule and for making payment by the due date. See the introductory page for payment deadlines.

What is AIM (Affordable Instructional Material)? The college understands that in order for a student to be successful in their academic pursuits, they must have access to books and other learning materials. The largest barrier to these materials is cost. The college has designed a series of courses using

instructional materials that are either in the public domain or costs less than $30. A course listed as AIM in the comment section of there is an

instructor change in the class.

SUMMER 1 2019 ONLINE COURSES For more information about distance learning, visit the website dl.ecc.edu

What is an Online Course? In an online course, students access some or all of the course material and participate in course activities over the Internet. Students can work from any Internet-connected computer to complete assignments and interact with other students and the instructor. Textbooks are normally required in addition to the online course material. To participate in an online course, students should have regular access to a computer with an Internet connection. Students should also have some familiarity with Internet use, email use, anfile management (saving files, downloading files, attaching files to email). Students are expected to work independently with instructor guidance. Online courses are not self-paced. Students are required to complete and submit assignments or participate in course activities according to an instructor-defined schedule. For information about a specific online course, contact the course instructor.

What is a Hybrid Course? In a hybrid course, an online component is used as a substitute for a portion of the instruction that a student would otherwise receivin a campus classroom or lab. Hybrid courses meet approximately 40 percent of the normal classroom hours on campus and students do theremainder of their work online. A hybrid course meets for the first time on the date and time identified in the course listing. The on-campus meeting requirements will be discussed during this first meeting.

For information about course orientation go to http://www.ecc.edu/onlinecourseblueprint/

Important Textbook Information for Online Classes: You can order your textbooks for any online class from any ofthe three ECC Bookstores (efollett.com).

a. Ordering Online: Please place the online order from the bookstore website that you want to pick up your books from (noneed to request a transfer).

b. Buying in the Store - -store,please contact the store first or simply order online from the store where you want to pick up the books.

c. North Bookstore: www.eccnshop.com; South Bookstore: www.eccsshop.com; City Bookstore: www.ecccity.bkstr.com

What is EriePlus? EriePlus courses have undergone a thorough course review process to maximize student success. Some of the features of these classes include an embedded student mentor, links to tutoring services (when available) and a course layout designed to address multiple learning styles. EriePlus courses are listed as Erie+ in the comment section.

What is AIM (Affordable Instructional Materials)? The College understands that in order for students to be successful in their academic pursuits, they must have access to books and other learning materials. The largest barrier to these materials is cost. The College has designed a series of courses using instructional materials that are either in the public domain or costs less than $30. A course listed as AIM in the comment section of the course schedule designates that the class meets this criteria. The College cannot guarantee the classes AIM status if there is an instructor change in the class.

1. What are the SuNy general education requirements? A non-specialized curriculum designed at empowering students to acquire knowledge and skills that are useful and important for all educated persons irrespective of their future jobs or professions. The SUNY General Education requirements include successful completion of seven courses distributed across the ten different Knowledge Areas (American History, Arts, Basic Communication, Foreign Language, Humanities, Math, Natural Sciences, Other World Civilizations, Social Sciences, and Western Civilization) and competencies in two areas (Information Management and Critical Thinking). Fulfillment of seven courses across the ten different Knowledge Areas is a graduation requirement for all students completing the Associate in Arts (AA), Associate in Science (AS), or the Bachelor’s Degree from any SUNY institution. (See the Knowledge Areas and the list of courses approved to fulfill each of these Knowledge Areas on the next page. Additionally, you can visit the SUNY General Education dashboard: http://system.suny.edu/academic-affairs/acaproplan/general- education/general-education-dashboards/ ) 2. Who should attempt to complete the SuNy general education requirements? • All students in an AA or AS degree program must complete the SUNY General Education requirements to total a minimum of 30 credit hours from Basic Communication (required), Mathematics (required), and at least five courses across the remaining eight SUNY Knowledge Areas. • Students in AAS programs are strongly recommended to complete a minimum of 20 credits of SUNY General Education requirements across as many Knowledge Areas as feasible, including Basic Communication and Mathematics. 3. Can a single course fulfill the requirements of more than one Knowledge Area? No. A student cannot “double-dip” across the SUNY Knowledge Area requirements. One course can fulfill only one of the Knowledge Areas even though a course may be listed across multiple Knowledge Areas. For example, EN111 although listed under Basic Communication, Humanities, and the Arts, successfully completing the course will only fulfill one of these SUNY Knowledge Areas. Students are advised to meet with their academic adviser or contact the General Education chair with questions. 4. Can only eCC courses be used to fulfill the general education requirements? No. The General Education requirements are not mandatory to be achieved through SUNY Erie courses. Transfer courses from other institutions may be used to fulfill General Education requirements. Also, Advanced Placement, CLEP, and Dantes credits may be used to meet these requirements. 5. What can I do to ensure that I am following the SuNy general education requirements? You can meet with you academic adviser or contact the General Education chairperson. Also, be sure to utilize the resources provided by SUNY regarding General Education: http://system.suny.edu/academic-affairs/ acaproplan/general-education/
