A Taste of CodeCraze June 17-21, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PMOR: Aug 5-9, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PMCost $180 (including materials)Target Age Group: 5 and up

This week long camp is designed to introduce students to all of the creative fun that we can have in our Maker Space. Students will learn about 3D scanning, creation of SVG (scalable vector graphics), printing on our line plotter and Glowforge CO2 laser, as well as CNC milling (3D carving) and 3D printing!! We will walk through the steps of creating anything we can dream of: a board game, a t-shirt, personal prints galore! Students will bring home their daily projects and have many stories to share about construction, visual expression and computer driven production.

Robotics 101 (with VEX IQ) June 17-21, 2:00 PM - 4:00 PMOR: July 22-26, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PMCost $150Target Age Group: 8 and up

Robotics combines coding with engineering. It encourages students to look critically at machines, cars and other technology around us in terms of levers, motors, sensors and electronic brains. Our VEX IQ series is designed to engage students in hands on STEM instruction. We prioritize build time and test time in order to maximize learning through application. The VEX IQ robot brain can take up to 12 inputs/outputs, which students configure in open source software. This intuitive software is a variation of a visual coding blocks, Scratch-like approach. Our powerful classroom kits come with smart motors, LED sensors, bumper switches, distance sensors, gyro sensors and color sensors. Our goal in this series is to introduce students to competition builds. Students learn applied programing in a fun environment of collaboration and team competition. They will build VEX IQ bots that lift and stack, follow sensor input and compete against other teams’ builds.

Python II June 24-28, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM Cost $150Target Age Group: 10 and up

In this fantastic 10 hour workshop, we will dive directly into programming in Python. Required is some familiarity with basic coding and a moderate ability to type. This is an application focussed approach to learning an industry standard. We will build a simple app as well as two games. Later Python forms an amazing foundation for hacking, app programing, game building and descriptive statistics. The student who understands Python, will pick up other programs such as JavaScript, Ruby on Rails and C++ with ease. This is an investment in the training of any future programmer!

JavaScript July 8-12, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PMCost $150Target Age Group: 12 and up

JavaScript powers the internet. It enables interactive web sites. It is easy to learn and forgiving of many mistakes. JavaScript runs on any computer with a browser. You will have no extra software subscription costs or need for special editing and compiling tools. It is a fantastic language to start with when Scratch doesn’t offer enough flexibility to finish your dream app or game. Through small, goal oriented projects, you will learn central coding concepts, while building your very own 2D games and apps. In this camp, you will make a calculator app, a choose your own adventure game, a hangman game and a mad-libs style game. We will also explore how JavaScript can help us to build our own basic website. Learning JavaScript will take game building to whole new levels for ambitious young coders. Your games and codes remain yours to take home, expand and share with family and friends. This is an amazing step toward becoming the developer that you have always wanted to be!

Mission Python July 8-12, 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM Cost $150Target Age Group: 9 and up

This camp offers an alternative way to start learning Python or develop your previous knowledge. We will direct all our efforts in making a fantastic space game. Very close to a standard progress of learning Python, each step in this process is designed to teach your child / you elements of Python in direct application for the game. Python is an industry standard and an excellent first language for children aged 9 and after due to its intuitive syntax. The student who understands Python, will pick up other programs such as JavaScript, Ruby on Rails and countless others with ease. This is an investment in the training of any future programmer!

Fun with Electronics July 29-Aug 2, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM Cost $150Target Age Group: 6 and up

The foundation of every computer, robot and battery-operated toy is a basic circuit. Starting with our LittleBits lab kits, we will build with a litany of sensors and signals. Our project teams will construct alarms, sound triggered LED displays, pressure sensitive response switches and light sensitive buzzers. Students build circuits without the dangers of soldering or any lead exposure. Over ten hours of instruction, they will be encouraged to think critically about circuitry in everyday life and build models of mechanisms that they see in action every day.

Maker Camp July 15-19, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM Cost: $ 165Target Age Group: 6 and up

Makers of all ages! This is your time and place to strike! It doesn’t matter: If you have never built anything and never held a screwdriver in your hand, this is the moment to start. With our 11,000 pieces maker corner, circuitry elements and more, you will have the choice: We can provide you with our challenge cards that will ask you to build a certain object (for example, a vehicle that follows a straight line) with a limited number of given tools. Alternatively, we will engineer something amazing together!

This is a perfect introduction to robotics for elementary school children; but older ones with no previous knowledge will also learn a lot about coding robots. We will learn about and code our many Dash, Dot and Cue robots that race, play, dance, and interact with your child and other robots. Additional materials like launchers, grippers, markers, xylophones can be attached to our cute robots, and your child can even connect legos, for example, as helmets and shields for a coded robo-joust, or other sorts of competitions on our special fields and mats. They will surely enjoy controlling the variety of options their machine friends will provide.

Stop Motion Movie June 24-26, 1:00 PM - 3:00 PMCost $ 90Target Age Group: Kindergarten and up

Have you ever seen Walt Disney’s first productions of Mickey Mouse? For many years, cartoons were produced using the Stop Motion technique. In this workshop, your child will be introduced to stop motion by creating their own story, setting t h e i r s c e n e s u s i n g s e l f - m a d e backgrounds, lego people and bricks, adjusting the light conditions, taking shots, recording sounds and dialogues, bringing these all digitally together, and finally, thinking about improvements by learning more about these various elements of stop motion movie-making.

Intro to Coding June 3-5, 1 PM - 3 PM Cost $ 90Target Age Group: 7 and up

This 3-day camp is designed as a first introduction to coding. The camp brings together the different coding languages that we primarily teach in CodeCraze (Scratch, Python, JavaScript). By doing so, the students will better grasp some underlying concepts that different languages share and the reason behind some of their differences. This approach is not designed to dig deep into coding, rather, the motivation is to give children a basic but solid understanding of what coding is about from which they can easily and swiftly continue in any endeavor in software development.

Turtle in Python July 2-3, 1 PM - 3 PM Cost $ 60Target Age Group: 9 and up

A graphical introduction to Python - a powerful industry standard and excellent first coding language! Turtle is a module in python that, like a drawing board, lets you command a turtle to draw all over it. This camp mimics BASIC coding from the 80’s. Your child will learn the standards of a critical, modern language while watching words direct pictures on the screen.

3D Printing with Tinkercad July 29, 1 PM - 3 PM Cost $ 30Target Age Group: 6 and up

Come watch our 3D printer in action! Build your own design, keyfob, or other small figure in Tinkercad, a program featuring 3D shapes in a building space! The result will be uniquely yours and in colorful 3D. Each participant will take home their project.
