What about camp?Camp provides exciting activities that may include arts and crafts, swimming, singing, canoeing, outdoors skills, and games. Please see individual camp for information on what ages are eligible. For most camps girls who complete grades K – 5 by the end of the 2014-2015 school year may register as campers. Girls who complete grades 6 – 11 will be eligible to attend most camps as a Program Aide. Program Aides are older girls who want to work with young children, are willing to accept responsibility, and attend a pre-camp training session. Registration cost for all camps except community sponsored camps includes T-shirt and patch.

Day Camp – a daytime camp experience where girls register individually and are placed in units. The participants and unit staff plan and carry out activities in addition to participating in all camp activities. Day camp is council sponsored. The council approves the staff, the facilities, site and program.

Overnight Camp – the same as a day camp but with opportunities for girls to stay overnight. It will typically last for two or three nights, but some may be longer. Most meals are provided.

Specialty Camps – camps organized by Girl Scout staff. They may be in partnership with area organizations. They are run by trained professionals and assisted by volunteers.

Community Camps - camps offered specifically for Girl Scouts by outside businesses or organizations. They are run by trained professionals and assisted by volunteers. Camp shirts and patch are not available.

Staff – all camps are run by well trained staff and volunteers with necessary certifications required for girl safety.

Transportation – bus transportation is available for several camps at a cost of $15 per rider. See each camp’s information for details. If bus transportation is not available at your camp, consider having an adult from your family volunteer to drive for the week. Ask your troop leader which girls are attending camp from your troop and arrange a carpool.

Insurance – all registered girls and adults have accident coverage while participating in camp. This coverage is supplemental to your personal insurance. Girl Scouts of Louisiana – Pines to the Gulf will cover the cost of extra insurance for all volunteers, Pixies, and Tadpoles.

Financial Assistance – limited financial assistance is available for any girl attending camp. An application form is located on the council website. The deadline to apply is May 1, 2015.

Late Fee – each camp who accepts late registrations will assess a late fee for any registration accepted after the camps registration deadline. Girls who register late may not receive the camp shirt but instead one from our Council Shop. See each camp for registration deadlines.

Tagalongs (Pixies and Tadpoles) – pixies are girls and boys under 6 years of age. Tadpoles are boys 6 -10. Pixies and Tadpoles are required to stay in their assigned units during camp. Pixie and Tadpole units are designed for children of CAMP VOLUNTEERS ONLY ON THE DAYS THAT THEY VOLUNTEER. Tagalongs may not stay the night at overnight camps. Not all camps offer tagalong units. Check your camp’s information.

Forms & InformationAll forms will be located on the website at www.gslpg.org. You may also request a registration packet by calling 1 800 960 2093 or you may pick one up at any council service center. No refunds on camp fees will be given except in case of illness of camper, verified by written statement from a doctor, or death of an immediate family member. With the exception of the specialty and community camps all camps are run by volunteers and need your help. Please contact the camp director to offer your assistance.

All volunteers must fill out registration forms. As an incentive to encourage parents to volunteer, GSLPG will offer a 50% camp fee reimbursement to the child of volunteers who volunteer the entire length of the camp that their child is attending and attend camp training. The reimbursement will be in the form of a check from the camp team after the close of camp. Reimbursement will only be made for one child. In the instance that both parents volunteer for the entire camp they can get credit for one child’s entire camp fee or 50% of two children’s fee. Specialty and community camps may offer their own discounts to parents who volunteer. See that camp’s information or check with the camp director to see if any are available.
