On Target… SUMMER 2018 PRESIDENT’S 2018 SUMMER REPORT BY Bill Cassidy, Club President Summer is here! Please come out and enjoy your club. We have completed a few capital improvements to the club’s facilities. The Trap garage expansion was needed for more storage of equipment and supplies. We also completed the wall extensions on the outdoor 25-yard pistol range. This will allow members to shoot from further distances. We removed the grass from the bays and replaced it with purpose-chosen stone. So now, this will eliminate the need to stand in mud at the shooting benches after it has rained, and will also help avoid canceling events and matches. Bear in mind that we have added an extra 25 feet to the bays. As such, I would like to remind everyone, per the club’s Rule Book, that you MUST place your target on the target stand at a distance -- from the ground -- that will result in rounds hitting the center area of the dirt backstop. In June we celebrated a well- attended Past Presidents Night Dinner where, among other announcements, we presented Dan Chisarick with the rst-ever President’s Award for his dedicated and humble stewardship of the Club’s newsletter over many years. The Board would also like to congratulate Justin and Andrew Schildt’s participation in the Eastern CMP Games with Andrew nishing with the 3rd highest score in the Junior Division over all.  LPRGC’s growing positive reputation spurs membership growth to the benet of all members. Our Board will continue to replace equipment as required and add to facilities as needed. FROM THE CHAIRMAN BY Michael Gottlieb, Club Chairman

Congressional Candidate Dan David was the special guest speaker at our LPRGC Past Presidents Dinner on June 6th.  Mr. David discussed 2nd Amendment rights, the opioid crisis and China relations in his prepared remarks and also met and took questions from members.  Dan is running in Pennsylvania's 4th District, which includes most of

Montgomery County and a portion of Eastern Berks County.

Dan is an accomplished business executive and entrepreneur who has spent years working to protect the retirement savings of American families.  His efforts are featured as the lead protagonist in the documentary “The China Hustle” which is currently showing in theaters and available online.

A gun owner and member of Great Swamp Fish and Game, Dan attended Northern Michigan University and the executive education program at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.  He is a native of Flint, MI, and has lived in Pennsylvania for 25 year.  Dan currently resides in Hatfield with wife Janine and owns an investment

RIFLE BY Frank Tait, Rifle Chairman All members are welcome to participate in the Rifle committee. The next meeting will be in the clubhouse on September 25th at 7pm. The Rifle refresher is the second Saturday of every month from 12:30pm-2:30pm on the 100yd range immediately after the work party (sometimes we start early). New members can come out to qualify and all are welcome to get help with technique, checking out a new acquisition, installing new accessories or getting that new optic sighted in. Rifle qualification is not caliber specific. Bring your rifle in a case, 40 rounds of ammo and your eye and ear protection. These events are open to all members. CMP continues on the first Saturday of the month starting at 8:30am on the 100yd range, these events are open to the public.

The Adult Smallbore program on the first Thursday of the month at 6:30pm on the indoor range. We have also added a long range Smallbore program on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 5pm on the 100yd range. Chris Keebler runs a great program. These events are open to all members.

family and youth friendly. Registration information is on the club website.

The NRA Basic Rifle classes led by Devang Gor starts on July 16th . Registration is open and the details are on the website. This class is open to all members.

The Carbine classes led by Jim Valentin continue. The next Carbine 1 class is on August 26th and Carbine 2 on September 29th. There are prerequisites for the classes. Details are on the club website. This is a members only class. As always, all of the details of the Rifle programs are on the club website. Many thanks to Todd Thompson for keeping the rifle area of the club website up to date.

Let’s all be safe using the 100yd range!

We are all responsible to maintain the condition of the range. Please return your target stands to the racks on the side of the range. Used targets should be removed from the target stands and put in the trash cans.

Safety Reminder: Before shooters go forward of the 100-yard firing line, the MAN DOWN RANGE signs must be displayed. While the MAN DOWN RANGE sign is displayed, no firearms will be cased or uncased, handled, or otherwise manipulated. When the range is clear of downrange shooters, the sign must be returned to the RANGE CLEAR position before firearms are handled or fired.

TRAP BY Brett Wells, Trap Chairman WANT TO LEARN TRAP? NEED TO SHARPEN YOUR SKILLS?

Our Wednesday night Trap Clinics are a great opportunity for new shooters to learn the game and for experienced shooters to get in a few practice rounds. NRA certified instructors are available to teach you the basics or to help with a problem that might be hindering your growth in the sport. Clinics run every Wednesday at 5PM until 8PM or whenever we run out of shooters, whichever comes first. THE LPRGC TRAP WEBSTORE IS OPEN You can now order LPRGC Trap attire and have it shipped directly to your home.  The store includes our new program logos as well as some customizable stock items.  They can be printed or embroidered on a variety of items.  You can find a link to the store by visiting the main trap page on the club’s website and clicking on the banner. If you’re reading this online, click HERE to access the store. Proceeds from the store will support our Junior Trap Program. JR TRAP IS GETTING NOTICED!

The Jr Trap team has been very busy for the last three months with team an individual competitions.  In team events we won 2nd place at:  Pine Valley, PEN*MAR, and the Maryland AIM Championships in various categories.  The team took third in the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) PA State Championships in the Intermediate/Entry Level category. Individual winners included Christian Brassington (Junior Champion, PEN*MAR), Walker Toates (Intermediate/Entry Level - 3rd place, SCTP PA Championships).  The team's most prolific individual winner this year is Kurt Willman who has won too may trophies to list. With 30 participants and all the shooting this spring we are nearly out of shells and targets.  Therefore, we are actively looking for sponsors who would like to support the team with cash donations to purchase both of these much needed items. Practice will continue over the summer on a limited schedule and we will resume our regular schedule in September.

WE’RE IMPROVING THE GROUNDS

There are a lot of changes happening around the trap fields. New concrete pads have been installed behind the 27 yard line of each trap. The addition of a new garage bay will provide more space for the equipment we need to run a first class program.

We’re grateful to the Board and Lou Liberato for their commitment to improving the grounds.

Hunter Trapper Education BY Douglas Orth

Pennsylvania requires all hunters to complete a hunter/trapper education course before purchasing a license. LPRGC offers the required course several times per year. A certificate from this course is accepted by all 50 of the United States, as well as all the states of Mexico and provinces of Canada, for the purchase of a basic hunting license.

The first LPRGC course of 2017 was in March. The LPRGC board has approved the following dates for the fall courses. See the lprgc.org website for details on signing up for a course.

Course #2 - One night + One day course Course #3 - One night + One day course Thursday September 20 7:00pm-9:30pm Thursday November 15 7:00pm-9:30pm Saturday September 22 8:00am-3:30pm Saturday November 17 8:00am-3:30pm

Montgomery County Youth Field Day If you would like to take a course before September, the Game Commission offers a full on-line course option for students 16 and older. There is no classroom time involved with this course offering. You can study the material and take the test whenever you want. There is, however, a fee of $19.50 for the on-line course, whereas the traditional classroom course is free. For more details, see the Hunter/Trapper page at lprgc.org.

The LPRGC Hunter Trapper Education instructors, and many other LPRGC members, annually participate in the Montgomery County Youth Field Day, which is a one day event that introduces youth ages 9-15 to shooting, boating and fishing. There are rifle, shotgun, archery and muzzleloading shooting activities, along with canoeing, fishing, a wildlife scavenger hunt and fur bearer trapping activities. The entire day is free for all participants.

The event will be held at Camp Hart, part of the Musser Boy Scout Reservation in Marlborough Township, about 3.5 miles NE from Main St in Green Lane. The date for this year's event is August 25. You can find more information at the youth field day website, www.montcoyfd.org. If you have youth that would like to attend, they can be registered at the website or by calling (484) 971-4536.

One of the ways we fund this event is by selling raffle tickets. Tickets will be on sale at LPRGC General Membership meetings in July and August. The drawing will be held at the event. Prizes include a Mossberg bolt action rifle, a Mossberg youth shotgun and a freshwater fishing package. Tickets are $5 each or 3 for $10.

We can always use more help, both on the day of the event and throughout the year. There are many tasks that need to be done to create a successful event. If you can give a little of your time to help this very worthy project, and would like more information on how you can help, please contact me at 610-584-8578 or [email protected].
