Lake Washington Technical Academy | www.LWTech.edu/academy
Lake Washington Technical Academy (LWTA) offers eligible high school junior and senior students, ages 16* to 20, the opportunity to concurrently train for a career and earn a high school diploma. Whether you’re academically accelerated, are behind in credits, or have dropped out of high school, LWTA offers a way for you to prepare for a better future. Our enrollment process includes an interview to help determine which pathway is best for you. Lake Washington Technical Academy is accredited by the AdvancED and is a full-time special purpose high school program located on the campus of Lake Washington Institute of Technology in Kirkland, Washington. The program enrolls 350-400 students annually in either direct entry or Gateway to College. Students will receive a scholarship for tuition and books.
Register for a High School Options (HOP) session by calling (425) 739-8107. Coming to a HOP session is a required first step for enrollment in our high school.
*Students must be 16 by September 1, 2016 for admission.
Running Start | www.LWTech.edu/runningstart
Qualified high school juniors and seniors can take approved general education or technical credit classes at LWTech. Consult your high school counselor or contact the LWTech Running Start coordinator at (425) 739-8180. Ask about free textbook loans!
Tech Prep | www.LWTech.edu/techprep

Under 18 Enrollment | www.LWTech.edu/under18
Generally students must be 18 or have a high school diploma or GED® to enroll in LWTech. Students who are high school juniors or seniors are referred to the Lake Washington Technical Academy, Gateway to College or Running Start to explore eligibility through those programs.
If a student is not participating in one of these programs and wishes to register for a college course at LWTech, and if this course is not specifically designed for a younger student, he/she may be considered for enrollment in this course through the underage enrollment process.
Adult High School Completion | www.LWTech.edu/adulths
In addition to our Technical Academy, there are several other options for students who are 18 years of age or older to earn a high school diploma at LWTech. Credit and course requirements are prescribed by the state of Washington. Students who are at least 19 and who have two or fewer classes remaining to complete graduation requirements may be eligible for a tuition waiver.
Another option is the HS 21+ Adult High School Completion Pathway, which combines high school equivalency test preparation with course content designed to meet the requirements for high school diploma credits. Those choosing to enroll in the HS 21+ program can apply previously earned high school credits, and possibly earn credits for current and/or prior learning or work experience, and choose from a variety of approaches to complete their unfinished coursework.

Summer Programs: Full STEAM Ahead Into Summer
For more information on these camps and classes go to www.LWTech.edu/summer
What’s better than Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) camp for girls? Our STEAM camp, which incorporates traditional STEM fields with the addition of Art!
“What every student needs to be successful in an ever-changing technological environment is creativity and critical thinking. Therefore, instead of STEM, the world is calling for students to engage in STEAM!” said LWTech Humanities and Visual Art instructor Jason Sobottka.
This full-day camp for girls incorporates art lessons with biotechnology, microbiology, alternative energy, chemistry, and environmental science. Students can sign up for one week, two weeks, or take the entire three-week camp. Not only will students earn two elective college credits per week, lab coats and lunches are included. Students will also go on scientific field trips.
• July 11-28 • Monday-Thursday: 9 a.m. - 3:50 p.m.• $284.82 per week
High School Girls Only STEAM Camp
High School Coed STEAM Camp
This full-day coed STEAM Camp covers the same exciting topics as the girls' only camp at the same price with the same college credits as above.
• July 18-August 4 • Monday-Thursday: 9 a.m. - 3:50 p.m.• $284.82 per week
Middle School Coed STEAM Camp
This one-week STEAM camp for middle schoolers teaches students about our planet. Students will take a journey into the various realms of science, including chemistry, physics, alternative energy, engineering, biotechnology, and more. They’ll learn important life skills such as team work, collaboration, creativity, and responsibility. Instructors will incorporate
art lessons to complement the subject matter, and students will create handmade artwork. Lab coats and lunches are included. Students will also go on scientific field trips.
• August 8-11• Monday-Thursday: 9 a.m.-3:50 p.m.• $284.82
Summer is a great time to try something new to increase memory, promote brain function, and expand horizons. Game in a Month is a workshop for high school freshman ages 14+ who want to design their own digital game in just four weeks. Think you need to be a technology wizard to sign up? Think again! Only basic computer skills are needed to enroll. Participants also have the potential to self-publish their own video games and mobile apps. It doesn’t stop at the end of
summer either. Students can continue creating more games using the Unity game engine, after summer is but a mere memory. So while some people might spend their summer playing video games, our students can actually design one!
• July 5-29• Monday-Friday: 9 a.m.-noon, with
optional lab time until 1 p.m.• Cost: $529.64• Students can earn four college credits
Digital Game in a Month
Fast Track Academic Transfer Courses Fast Track is the perfect solution for those who want to earn college credits in an accelerated manner. Students will earn five credits per class in only four weeks through hybrid classes (part in-class/part online). Students can take classes in Term A or Term B, or during both terms to earn more credits. Credits in English, Math, Psychology, and Communication Studies transfer to all Washington state public universities (and some private universities*).
• Term A: July 5-29 (Day/time depends on class selected)
• Term B: August 1-26 (Monday and Wednesday, times vary)
• $582.05 per class for residents• Students earn five college credits
per class
* Many private non-profit colleges and universities have distinct general education requirements. Students should check with institution(s) they plan to attend regarding application of transfer credits that will meet general education requirements.
It’s hard to believe that summer is right around the corner. If you’re a parent of a middle or high school student, plan a summer experience with Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) to set your kids up for future success, and keep them engaged during summer break.
This summer, LWTech has three new camps and programs designed for kids and adults: STEAM Camps (girls only and coed for high school and middle school students), Game in a Month (for ages 14+ and at least a freshman in high school), and Fast Track Academic Transfer classes (for students planning on starting college in the fall or for those who want to take classes over the summer and transfer them to their school).
