Family owned and operated since 1918, the first store opened in East St. Louis by Paul Reiniger’s grandfather, who was eventually joined by his son Gene (Paul’s father). The store remained open for all those years before officially closing in the late ‘60s when Paul’s father

moved the business into the family home with nine kids!

Interestingly, of the nine kids, current owner Paul Reiniger and his sister, Barbara, are the only two of the siblings who stayed in the family business though Barbara eventually decided to pursue another career path. “And all of us have careers where we use our hands to work,” he said. “Growing up, dad had the showcase upstairs and his bench downstairs. Our house was the cen-tral place of the neighborhood where everyone's kids came to play and adults came to visit.”

When it was time for his father to retire, Paul Reiniger happily decided to carry on the family busi-ness. He attended and graduated from Gem City College in Quincy, Ill., and has earned certificates from the Gemological Institutes of America. He completed work for other stores in the area such as JC Penney’s and others in and around St. Clair Square. Work became more and more abundant, and in 1992 he opened his own storefront in the Swansea Schnucks Plaza before moving across the street where he is today. “In 2003, we decided to expand our company to our second location in Wa-terloo to better serve the entire Monroe County and surrounding area,” he said.

Offering a full-service facility at the Swansea location, the Bridal business is certainly a prime target for the store. Reiniger Jewelers offers all the myriad wedding lines plus he can custom design, adapt and adjust whatever the couple desires.

One would be hard pressed to find an industry or profession that has not been drastically changed for the better by technology and the jewelry business is no exception.

“There are a few things at Reiniger's that are still done the same as ever, but technology has made so many things so much more accessible,” said Reiniger. “We have evolved over these almost 100 years and changed with the times.”

Now a jeweler can use lasers to weld even the tiniest of parts making repairs to any piece of jewelry possible. Custom designs are easier to create from a sketch by using a CAD program to create the ac-tual model – literally your own imagination is the limit to what Reiniger's can provide the customer.

Customers will also find same-day service for jewelry repair including any watch repair needs such as band adjustments and battery replacement. Gift giving is made easy with all kinds of personalized items such as clocks, picture frames, and glassware to name just a few of the items that can be engraved with a special message for any occasion. Don’t forget that Reiniger Jewelers has complimentary gift-wrapping with every purchase – one-stop shop! Visit Reiniger at 2704 N. Illinois Street in Swansea, (618) 235-1219; or 911 N. D estination weddings have become increasingly popular in the last 10 years as couples find plenty of wonderful advantages to combining the wedding and the honeymoon into an all-encom-

passing, dreamy week. To meet the demands of these weddings away from home, Julia Crunk, owner of Ambassador Travel, has become an expert on travel and accommodation details for the couple and their guests, making the process stress-free.

In addition, since the costs of a traditional wedding have risen considerably, the destination wedding has become a more economical choice for couples interested in sharing their day with a few select guests. Imagine saying “I do” on a white-sand beach with a handful of your closest friends looking on. If a destination wedding sounds like your kind of paradise, Ambassador is the place to start.

Open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. as well as evening hours by appointment, Crunk will sit with the couple in the quiet of her office and discuss different ideas. There is also a no-fee payment plan so payments can be made when convenient until the balance needs to be paid. Discounts are given as well for destination wedding friends/families (minimum five rooms, 10 guests) who want to travel with the bride and groom to celebrate the wedding. With a wide variety of des-tination resorts available, combined with over 45 years of experience, Crunk knows the resorts personally that offer free or discounted weddings, and the rules and regulations necessary for the perfect event.

In fact, check out her list of expertise: Certified Sandals Specialist, AM Resorts (Secrets, Now, Dreams and Breathless) Master Agent, Riu Resort Specialist, Karisma Resort Gourmet Inclusive Honeymoon Specialist ( El Dorado Royale, El Dorado Casita, El Dorado Maroma, El Dorado Seaside Suites, as well as the

Summer is here and many of us are looking forward to swimsuit days. It’s a great time of the year, but it’s also the time you start to notice those extra pounds from winter. You exercise, eat healthy and work hard to lose those stubborn fat pockets, but sometimes, it just persists.

What can be done? What is the best option for me? There are many ways to remove excess fat. The key to finding the best solution for your needs is to determine the amount of fat we need to remove. We really have to customize your solution based on the amount of excess adipose tissue (or fat) that needs removed.

Greater fat loss: For someone who has a large amount of fat and greater areas of concern, the best option is diet and exercise. There still is no magic method for losing those pounds and what-ever method works for you, as long as it’s a healthy choice, is the right option.

Moderate remaining adipose tissue: For those who have a moderate amount of extra adi-pose (or fatty tissue), nothing beats liposuction. To this day, it’s the most effective treatment for the permanent removal of fat from various areas of the body.

Just problem areas: Do you have stubborn fat in a certain area such as the neck, love handles, muffin top, flank or thighs? Have you tried diet and exercise, and you just can’t get those stubborn areas to look the way you would like? You may be a great candidate for the new truSculpt™ machine! For years there were no great options for thinner patients who just had a few problematic areas to address. Fortunately, in the last few years, new options have been created such as truSculpt™.

truSculpt™: truSculpt™ is an FDA approved device for reducing fat and the appearance of cellulite. The system works by gently heating the adipose tissue to 45 degrees Celsius. Studies have shown that heating fat to 45 degrees Celsius for three minutes will kill fat cells. The treatment hand piece is small so it can treat even the smallest of problem areas such as neck, inner thighs, love handles, muffin tops, abdomen, and many other un-wanted areas.

Treatment: truSculpt™ is a non-surgical technique. Treatments create a warm sensation on the skin that is easily tolerated. Following the procedure, most patients are back to full activities within 30 minutes and often don’t notice any ill effects. Treatments typically last 30-90 minutes with no downtime!

How do I know what’s right for me? Schedule an appointment at MidAmerica Plastic Surgery, (618) 288-7855, www.midAmericaPlasticSurgery.com. A board certified plastic surgeon has the training and experience to give you the guidance you need to accomplish your goals.

Tired of stubborn fat? Get ready for swimsuit season!

Celebrating their 35th anniversary in Edwardsville, Green Earth health food and supplement store is proud to say they are a true family owned and operated busi-ness. All five of owner Thad Buckey’s children have worked at the store at one time

or another over the years, and now two granddaughters have joined them, and there are several long-time staff members as well. “If you treat your staff right and pay them nicely, they stay!” said Buckey with a smile.

All of the staff members are long-time health food specialists who really know and un-derstand the products available, and can help eliminate feelings of doubt when choosing a product – even for pets! “Really, that’s what we are all about – we want people to purchase products that are good for them,” Buckey said. “So many supplements and vitamins aren’t even tested, but we only offer those that are controlled.” For example, sports nutrition customers will find brands like Vega Sport, Jarrow and EAS – “only the best!”

Another example of Green Earth’s high standards is their beauty products and cosmetics that are “clean, green lines,” he continued. “Our bodies absorb much of what we put on it and in it including chemicals, animal hormones and antibiotics. These outside influences can contribute to all kinds of health problems and most people don’t even know it.”

New coolers around the perimeter of the store are stocked with local meats, eggs and honey. In fact, they can barely keep the eggs in stock. Plus loyal customers, who come all of Southern Illinois, find organic produce, bulk grains, granola, beans, trail mix, bulk

herbs and spices, and gluten-free foods, household cleaning supplies, Great Harvest Bread and more. Green Earth even carries dog and cat food, and supplies.

A recent addition is Acupuncturist and Chinese Herbalist Heather M. Hudzik L.Ac., MSTOM, who has an extensive four year post-graduate degree in Chinese Medicine from the Pacific College of oriental Medicine in Chicago. Her treatments can lend solutions to allergies, hormonal imbalances, infertility, chronic and acute pain, digestive disorders and much more. Call Hudzik at (618) 975-5829; www.hudzikacupuncture.com.

Another option for customers seeking good health and well-being is to make an appoint-ment with Maurine Sampson, Usui - Tibetan Reiki Master, who offers massage therapy and Reiki healing. Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. Call Sampson at (618) 463-0461.

Don't miss the deli serving an almost entirely vegetarian menu with the exception of tur-key and tuna sandwiches. Made from scratch weekly, there are hot and cold sandwiches, salads, juices and smoothies, and a special menu just for kids.

Every first business Monday of the month is super discount Monday. Green Earth gives every customer 20% off regularly priced supplements plus there are representatives from some of these product lines in the store to answer questions.

Please stop by and say congratulations to Buckey and his family for a wonderful 35 years! Open from 8 a.m. to 8 pm. seven days a week, they are located at 441 A S. Buchanan in Edwardsville, (618) 656-3375, www.greenearthgrocer.com.

Summer is finally here. As your family calendar becomes full of summer events and you start to schedule those Back to School appointments for

your child’s upcoming school year, are you sure you haven’t forgotten something important? What about your child’s eyes? Vision problems can af-fect more than just seeing the board or reading a book.

Research has shown that vision problems can: 1. interfere with academic performance2. slow down overall development3. cause a short attention span4. make reading difficult 5. result in lowered self-esteem

It’s usually pretty easy to tell when your child has dif-ficulty seeing things in the distance (such as the board in school), but most parents don’t know what to look for to determine when a child has difficulty seeing the words in a book. There are so many potential explana-tions for why a child struggles with reading that par-ents often lose sight of the obvious.

Many parents mistakenly assume that the vision screenings are the same as a complete eye examina-tion, and incorrectly assume that their child’s vision is fine when they pass the screening. According to the American Optometric Association, approximately one out of four children struggle with reading and learning because of undiagnosed vision problems; and three out of five children with learning disabilities have undiagnosed vision problems. “Whether your child is a bright underachiever, struggles with reading or has developmental delays, the good news is the majority of vision problems that

impede learning can be corrected – once they are de-tected,” shared Dr. Thomas Unger, an optometrist with an office in Troy.

Please take a moment to review the signs that indicate vision may be playing a role in your child’s difficulties: • headaches when reading• slow or incomplete copy work from board or paper• avoidance of reading• poor reading comprehension• frequent loss of place while reading• complains words move on the page• short attention span• smart in everything but school• labeled ADD, ADHD, dyslexic• working below potential

BUSINESS PROFILES

Hailing from Baltimore, Edward Jones Financial Advisor Charles Richards graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2002 with a bachelor’s of science in political science. His service as a nuclear submarine officer

included deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and eventually to St. Louis in 2006 as part of his “regular rotation.” Currently in the Navy Reserves, he continued his education at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville where he graduated with his master’s of business administration in 2010.

Residing today in Shiloh with his wife, Kaila, and two daughters, he found a perfect fit with Edward Jones where his prior military experience and education is utilized to help investors find tailored solutions to reach their financial goals. Richards is committed to assisting his clients in many ways including the preparation for and enjoyment of retirement, saving for their kids’ education, saving money on taxes and simply preparing for the unexpected events of life.

Working together with Branch Office Administrator Andrea Hughes, the two make a friendly team in their spacious office on South Illinois (south of Route 15). Actually the two had met before working together at Edward Jones – “Andrea was my wedding coordinator!” Richards said. Hughes also has

prior financial services industry experience and they make their clients feel at home right away.

Almost a century old now, Edward Jones serves nearly 7 million investors with more offices than any other investment firm in America. The company attributes a great deal of their success to their principles and personal, long-term approach to investing. Edward Jones was named one of the best companies to work for by FORTUNE magazine for the 16th year in its annual listing. Because Edward Jones is still a limited partnership, they are able to put their clients’ needs first and each office has a very personal feel that's almost like family.

Interested investors should ask themselves: “Where am I today? Where would I like to be? Can I get there? How do I get there?” And “How can I stay on track?” With these critical questions in mind, Richards is able to address these concerns and find viable solutions.

Make an appointment today for a FREE financial review by calling (618) 257-2397. The office is located at 2100 S Illinois Street, Suite B in Belleville. www.edwardjones.com. Member SIPC.

C rosspoint Church, a thriving multi-generational church, meets at Cen-tral Elementary School in O’Fallon on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Crosspoint is a non-denominational church offering a passionate,

life-giving environment where people of all races, ages and backgrounds are welcome. O'Fallon, Illinois is the second campus for Crosspoint Church with the first campus located in South St. Louis County.

“We are one church with multiple locations,” said Pastor David Verret, who is the O'Fallon campus pastor. “Our worship services contain passionate, mean-ingful congregational singing and practical teaching from the Bible. We have trained, capable staff that provide incredible service to babies and children at each meeting so that people of every age can experience God and get to know Him better.”

Three of four Sundays, the O’Fallon location has live services with the message from Crosspoint Lead Pastor Shawn Craig brought in via streaming video from the South County campus. Pastor Shawn Craig is well-known as the long-time member of the Contemporary Christian Music group Phillips, Craig & Dean. A prolific songwriter, he has had many of his songs recorded and has received multiple Dove awards, including the 1994 Song of the Year “In Christ Alone.” He is also author of a daily devotional book entitled “Between Sundays.”

Verret, who launched the O'Fallon campus with his team in September of 2014, speaks on campus one Sunday per month. “Crosspoint members follow Jesus Christ for God's glory and everything we do reflects that mission,” Verret

said. “In addition to our worship services, we focus on the needs of the com-munity by supporting civic activities, feeding the hungry, helping underprivi-leged children and assisting families with their commitment to one another. Everyone is welcome and we hope our congregation reflects the beautiful diversity of our region.”

The church offers many programs and classes for all ages including children, students, couples and more. Sunday Night Life Groups are an exciting way for people to meet others at the church. Meeting mostly in homes, but some-times coffee shops or offices across the area, Sunday Night Life (SNL) provides a relaxing environment for people to engage in meaningful relationships by "doing life together."

Attend Crosspoint at Central Elementary, 309 Hartman Lane in O’Fallon. Please call (314) 892-5051 or visit www.thecrosspoint.com for more information.

The third annual Sips & Tastes @ 618 is a weekend-long celebration of the diverse foods, beverages and entertainers in this region. Previ-ously known as Taste of Southern Illinois, the new name better reflects

what the festival is all about, according to Paul Seibert, Straight Up Magazine Publisher and member of the sponsoring association. Festival-goers will find 20 St. Clair County food vendors from Highland, Belleville, Shiloh, Leba-non, O’Fallon and others, offering a wide variety of favorites. Beverages for every palette will be in abundance as both Grey Eagle and Chick Fritz Distributors will be in attendance. The organizers also covered the tastes of craft beer lovers with 4204 Main Street Brewing Company and wine will be available as well.

“The event is sponsored by the St. Clair County Licensed Beverage Association to support the hospitality industry,” Seibert said. “It’s actually a fund raiser for the organization that supports and raises awareness of the bars and restaurants on this side of the river.”

This is also a family-friendly weekend with a fantastic play area in the perim-eter of the festival area; plenty of food and beverages will be available for even the youngest of fair goers. Probably the most fun is the entertainment for the weekend! Headlining on Friday night from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. is Rogers and Nienhaus who are two exceptional musicians with a lifelong career of performance on the world stage. With pristine harmonies and searing instrumentation, they are

truly a “one-of-a-kind” act. The duo delivers a powerful show leaving their au-diences wondering how two performers can deliver such a full, high-quality sound. Get ready for classics from The Byrds; Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young; Jackson Browne; Loggins and Messina; POCO; Firefall and others.

Taking the stage at 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. on Saturday is everyone’s favorite The SMASH Band. Always bringing the party, The SMASH Band plays a wide variety of pop tunes from throughout the years like “Proud Mary,” “Soul Man,” “Sweet Home Alabama,” “25 or 6 to 4,” “Beginnings,” “Brown Eyed Girl” – and the beat goes on and on.

Saturday afternoon from 3 to 5 p.m. is the United States Air Force Band of Mid-America’s group, Starlifter. This seven-piece group of talented musicians performs in virtu-ally every musical idiom, from Rock and Pop to Jazz and Country, to great contemporary and traditional patriotic songs. They feature the

best in popular music from the 1970s to the most current sounds at the top of today's charts.

Don’t miss such local favorites as Steve Reeb, playing for the third year; George Portz and the Friends of Bluegrass; plus a DJ will fill in between bands.

Admission and parking is FREE! Beverage purchases will be by tokens pur-chased on the grounds. Food items will be individually cash-priced by each vendor. Please refrain from bringing coolers.
