IMPORTANT NOTE: LOCATION CHANGESWe have changed one of our locations for swim lessons in order to provide you with a more family/friendly experience. We offer lessons at our sister YMCA, the Indian Boundary YMCA, at 711 59th Street in Downers Grove. So far the transition has gone well. We have the same staff teaching your children. Participants and their families have enjoyed:

• Easier parking and entry to the building

• Family friendly locker rooms available for your use with multiple showers

• For all preschool and youth classes you can drop your child off for class and as a member, you can enjoy a work out in their fitness center

• Great Gym & Swim program being offered Sunday afternoon, Monday evening, Tuesday and Thursday morning

Our second location for the summer swim lessons is Riverside Brookfield High School on Saturday afternoons, 160 Ridgewood Road, Riverside, IL.

All Gym & Swim classes include 30 minutes in the gym where your child will enjoy exercising, tumbling, relay games and songs and then it will include a 30 minute swim lesson that will incorporate the YMCA National Swim Lesson Program where we will stress water adjustment and swimming skills.

Level 1: PIKE - The first level of lessons is for beginning swimmers. Swimmers should be able to listen to instructions and follow directions. Swimmers will learn the basic paddle stroke on the front, back and sides. They will also be taught kicking skills and putting their face in the water.

Level 2: EEL - Swimmers will learn to jump in without assistance, float on their front and back for 20 seconds with or without an IFD. Swimmers will also learn to paddle on front, back and side for 25 yards with an IFD and 15 feet without. Prerequisites: To enter this level, swimmers should be able to front and back float 20 seconds with an IFD. Swimmers should also paddle on their front, back and side for 10 yards with an IFD, and 5 feet without.

Level 3: RAY - In this class swimmers will learn to front and back float 30 seconds without an IFD; front alternating paddle with rhythmic breathing 25 yards with an IFD, and 20 feet without. Swimmers will also learn front symmetrical paddle with rhythmic breathing 25 yards with an IFD, and 20 feet without; do a side alternating paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and 20 feet without; back alternating paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and 20 feet without; and back symmetrical paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and 20 feet without. Prerequisites: To enter this level, swimmers should be able to jump in without assistance, float on their front and back for 20 seconds with or without an IFD. Swimmers should also paddle on front, back and side for 25 yards with an IFD and 15 feet without.

Level 4: STARFISH - In this class swimmers will learn to do a standing dive; basic front crawl rotary breathing 25 yards; basic breaststroke 25 yards; backstroke 25 yards; elementary backstroke 25 yards; basic sidestroke 25 yards; and tread water 1 minute. Prerequisites: To enter this level, swimmers should be able to front and back float 30 seconds without an IFD; front alternating paddle with rhythmic breathing 25 yards with an IFD, and 20 feet without. Swimmers also need to be able to front symmetrical paddle with rhythmic breathing 25 yards with an IFD, and 20 feet without; do a side alternating paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and 20 feet without; back alternating paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and 20 feet without; and back symmetrical paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and 20 feet without.

Dance Fitness Kids will learn how fun staying healthy can be. We will keep them moving and grooving to new songs and classics. This class will increases kids' focus and self-confidence, boosting metabolism and enhancing coordination.

Youth Bike Club Children 6yrs and up, meet us at the 26th Street Woods West for a 2 hour supervised bike ride! All children must bring a bike, helmet and water bottle. A healthy snack will be provided.

Youth Walking Club Children 8yrs and up, meet us at the YMCA for a 2 hour supervised walk on the local Forest Preserve Trails! All children must bring a water bottle and sunscreen/bug spray. A healthy snack will be provided.

Conditioning Classes Whether you are an athlete in the off season, are approaching a try-out or just want to get or stay in shape over the summer, our conditioning classes will help you achieve your goals. Be faster, stronger and more focused. Functional movement patterns will be emphasized and help build confidence, speed, coordination, core strength, balance and agility. Class meets at Yena Park (29th and Harrison Ave, La Grange Park) Tuesdays and Thursdays. Attend one day or both for maximum benefit.

T-Ball This purified gem of a program is actually a combination of both t-ball and coach pitch. Kids get the best of both worlds. Teams will be formed and the fundamentals of the game will be established and accounted for. In addition to zeroing on the key aspects of the game of baseball, throwing,catching, fielding, and throwing, kids will learn to begin to understand the intricacies of how the game is supposed to be played. A huge learning curve will be implemented. We think you'll like this.....alot.

5K In 8 Weeks Interested in running a 5K but don’t know where or how to start? Just want to get into shape and improve your fitness? Join us for this 8 week training program designed to get you to a point where you can run a comfortable, relaxed 3 miles. Mondays you will do small group strength work geared for runners. Wednesdays and Saturdays we will take to the trails for our runs. Sign up for two days or for all three. This walk run program is suitable for all fitness levels and allows you to progress at your own pace. Ages 16+

Active Older Adult Program Join us for 2 land based classes each week that are designed specifically for the fitness needs of an active older adult. Targeting functional fitness, range of motion, and flexibility. Free for members.

HIIT Tabata The Tabata protocol is a high-intensity training regimen that produces remarkable results. A Tabata workout is an interval training cycle of 20 seconds of maximum intensity exercise, followed by 10 seconds of rest, repeated without pause 8 times. Outdoor BootCamp This high-intensity, 45min class will get you into or keep you in great shape. Classes will be held at Memorial Park and the format will change weekly. Register on a weekly basis, runs Mondays and Wednesdays 5:15-6:00am. Ages 16+

Outdoor Yoga Join us at Memorial Park for an early morning yoga class. Start your day off in the right frame of mind (and get a little Vitamin D too!) with this gentle yoga class suitable for all levels.

Family Swim: Family Swims on Saturdays are located at Riverside Brookfield High School located at 160 Ridgewood Rd., Riverside, IL. Per family fee is $4 member family and $8 non-member family per visit. Each family member must register for this family swim regardless of age for safety purposes. Please call the front desk to register 708-352-7600. Some Saturdays are not available, specifically 7/4 and 8/15. Parents or responsible adult age 16+ must accompany all children under age 9 in the pool.
