Red Hill Primary School Summer 2015 Roald Dahl Our main focus in English this term is a detailed author study of Roald Dahl. Ronald Dahl was one of our greatest children's authors and wrote many classics including the BFG, Maltida, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and George’s Marvellous Medicine. During the first half term we will study a variety of Roald Dahl books including James and The Giant Peach. We shall look at biographies and will attempt to write in the style of Roald Dahl. Our art will focus on Quentin Blake, the artist who illustrated most of Roald Dahl Books. Our school journey to Oxford will include a visit to the Roald Dahl Museum. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Our production this year is Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs which is our music focus for the term. 1 Mr Looker, Mrs Richards, Mrs Lucas, Mrs Acland and Miss Stephens PE In PE we will be learning the skills linked to Athletics in preparation for Sports Day and striking and fielding games. Your child’s PE kit must be in school every day and should consist of shorts and t-shirt in their house colour and plimsolls for indoor PE and trainers for outdoor games. A tracksuit maybe worn for outdoor PE when it is cold. Homework Homework will be set on a weekly basis and include maths and English. Your child should read at home as much as possible. There will be a weekly spellings to learn and your child should continue to practise their multiplication tables. Important dates Year 4’s Production of Roald Dahl’s “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” is on Tuesday 19th May at 1:45pm and 6pm. Tickets will be available nearer the time. YEAR FOUR Welcome back for the Summer Term

Our Summer 2 topics

The main focus after half term is a Geography topic based on a contrasting localities - Oxford and Chislehurst. We shall study land use, population size and map use.

In art we shall study photography and will link this to computing. We shall study how to take good

quality photographs and how these can be improved with the use of filters and

other computing techniques.

RE will see us study Judaism including the story of Moses.

Science The first Science topic for the summer term is Electricity. We shall construct simple electrical circuits, test circuits to see if they will work correctly, study switches, fruit as a power source and look at which materials are good conductors and which are good insulators. Our final Science topic is Living Things and Habitats. We shall make use of the extensive school grounds while studying classification keys, biology and transects. We shall study how man made climate change is effecting the habitats of animals around the world !

Other subjects

Art in the first half of the term will be an illustrator focus on

Quentin Blake and Anthony Brown where we shall study and copy their unique styles in our own art work. !

We will continue to study French including speaking and listening skills and basic French writing.
