BUILDING A BETTER POUND ROAD WEST Drivers in the growing south east will get a faster, less congested commute with major upgrades to Pound Road West in Dandenong South.

The works will be part of the biggest investment in suburban roads in Victoria’s history – the $4 billion Suburban Roads Upgrade package – to fix 22 key suburban arterials and create more than 4,200 jobs.

A two-kilometre section of Pound Road West and Remington Drive will be duplicated from two to four lanes between Abbotts Road and South Gippsland Highway, including a new bridge over the Cranbourne rail line.

New traffic lights will be installed at Remington Drive and Hydrive Close and safety upgrades will be installed at the Pound Road and South Gippsland Highway intersection, and the Abbotts Road and Remington Drive intersection.

The upgrade will reduce congestion, slash travel times and improve safety for more than 40,000 vehicles that rely on Pound Road West and Remington Drive each day.

The Victorian Budget 2018/19 includes a $2.2 billion Suburban Roads Upgrade package to upgrade 13 key arterial routes across the northern and south-eastern suburbs including Pound Road West.

This builds on the $1.8 billion Western Roads Upgrade currently underway including Tarneit, Point Cook and Werribee – to ease traffic congestion across Melbourne’s west, north and south-eastern suburbs.

The Suburban Roads Upgrade will fix more than 50 kilometres of roads across Melbourne.

As part of the package, several other key routes through Melbourne’s south-eastern suburbs will be upgraded, including Golf Links Road, Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Road and Thompsons Road.

Quotes attributable to Minister for Roads and Road Safety Luke Donnellan

“This is the single biggest investment in suburban roads in Victoria’s history – it will fix local roads and get people home sooner.”

“With work already underway on the Western Roads Upgrade, this unprecedented investment will now mean the benefits of this project are felt across our city from Werribee to Pakenham, from Doreen to Dingley.”

Quote attributable to Member for Dandenong Gabrielle Williams

“We’re building the missing link that will, for the first time, connect Pound Road West and Remington Drive – boosting productivity for local manufacturers and reducing commute times for local workers. Local businesses and their workers have been calling for this connection for years.”

Quote attributable to Member for Narre Warren South Judith Graley

“These improvements will slash travel times and reliability along the Pound Road corridor, so people can get to work, school and move around the area more easily.”

Pound Road West - Remington Road Link

Much needed infrastructure upgrades have been announced that will directly benefit the Innovation Park and M1/M2 Industry Parks precinct. Part of the $2.2 billion Suburban Roads Upgrade package in the Victorian Budget 2018/19, this new infrastructure includes:

> A link between Pound Road West and Remington Drive by way of a bridge over the Cranbourne rail line

> Widening of the 2km stretch between Abbotts Road and South Gippsland Highway from two to four lanes

> New traffic lights at Remington Drive

> Safety upgrades at the intersection of Pound Road/South Gippsland Highway and Abbotts Road/Remington Drive

Coupled with the removal of the Abbotts Road Level Crossing, travel times will be slashed and safety improved for more than 40,000 vehicles that rely on Pound Road West and Remington Drive each day. Source: www.premier.vic.gov.au

Abbotts Road Level Crossing Removal

Trains and traffic have been separated on Abbotts Road, meaning no more waiting for the more than 20,000 vehicles that pass through this busy industrial area each day. The finishing touches have been made to the 410-metre rail bridge, including installation of train signalling and overhead equipment to power trains as well as linking in the new and existing track either side of the bridge.
