This report summarizes responses from

December 2011 and May/August 2012

Wharton Bachelor of Science in

Economics degree recipients.

Even though the national unemployment

rate remained relatively high during the

2011-2012 academic year, Wharton

students fared extremely well in their job

and graduate school searches. Most

students (88.1%) entered the working

world, while another 5.3% pursued

further education. The average base

salary rose slightly to $66,916, with most

students also receiving signing bonuses

and expecting to receive annual bonuses.

JOB FUNCTIONS OF WHARTON GRADUATES

As can be seen by the chart on the left,

students from the Class of 2012 entered a

wide range of job functions upon

graduation, with especially strong interest

in various areas of finance, consulting,

and marketing.

Students accepted jobs with a variety of

both large and small employers including

Goldman Sachs, Google, Boston

Consulting Group, Macy’s, Microsoft,

Amazon.com, Time Inc., the National

Football League, Kraft Foods, Venture

for America, McKinsey, and the U.S.

Congress. A complete listing of

report.

METHODOLOGY

Students were asked through several e-mail requests during Spring 2012 to complete an online version

of the Career Plans Survey. Follow-up emails/surveys were sent in July and August 2012 to those

students who had not responded or had previously indicated they were “still seeking.” A total of 546

surveys were returned, resulting in an 85.5% response rate.
