LIGHTS THAT ARE TEMPORARILY REMOVED.
3. TEMPORARY CABLING MAY BE USED TO MAINTAIN CIRCUIT CONTINUITY, IN
ACCORDANCE WITH SPECIFICATIONS. TEMPORARY CABLE INSTALLED ABOVE
GROUND SHALL BE IN RIGID GALVANIZED STEEL CONDUIT, FASTENED TO PAVEMENT
AT MAXIMUM 4’ SPACING. CABLE ACROSS SURFACES SHALL BE PLACED BEHIND
BARRICADES USED TO CLOSE PORTIONS OF T/Ws OR OTHER SURFACES. IN TURF
AREAS, TEMPORARY "JUMPER" CABLE SHALL BE DIRECT BURIED APPROXIMATELY
6" TO 12" BELOW SURFACE GRADE. ALL JUMPER CABLES SHALL BE COMPLETELY
REMOVED WHEN NO LONGER NEEDED.
4. TEMPORARY CABLE CONNECTIONS SHALL BE MADE AT LIGHT BASES OR
HANDHOLES AS REQUIRED BY A PARTICULAR CONSTRUCTION PHASE OR
SEQUENCE. THE PLAN FOR TEMPORARY CONNECTIONS SHALL BE SUBMITTED
TO THE COTR FOR APPROVAL PRIOR TO INTERRUPTING A LIGHTING CIRCUIT.
ALL CONNECTIONS FOR AFL CIRCUITS SHALL BE MADE WITH APPROPRIATE
SIZE L-823 CONNECTORS. RECOMMENDATIONS FOR TEMPORARY "JUMPER"
CABLE ARE SHOWN ON LAYOUT SHEETS WHERE APPLICABLE, AND ARE
BASED ON AVAILABLE CIRCUIT INFORMATION.
5. CONTRACTOR SHALL CONFIGURE TEMPORARY MODIFICATIONS TO AFL CIRCUITS
AS REQUIRED BY HIS WORK AREA AND FOR MAINTAINING LIGHTING FOR ACTIVE
SURFACES.
a. IDENTIFY THE CABLE FOR THE CIRCUIT TO BE MODIFIED IN NEARBY LIGHT
BASE, JB, OR HANDHOLE. SEE ELECTRICAL LAYOUT SHEETS FOR LIGHT AND
CIRCUIT LOCATIONS.
b. SUBMIT A SKETCH FOR EACH PROPOSED TEMPORARY MODIFICATION OR CIRCUIT
RECONFIGURATION FOR COTR APPROVAL PRIOR TO MODIFYING A CIRCUIT.
c. MEGGER TEST EACH CIRCUIT BEFORE ANY MODIFICATION TO THE CIRCUIT, TEST
TO VERIFY THAT EACH TEMPORARY MODIFICATION OPERATES AS INTENDED, AND
MEGGER TEST EACH CIRCUIT WHEN PERMANENT CONFIGURATION IS RESTORED.
CONTRACTOR SHALL CARRY WITH HIM APPROPRIATE CABLE, CONNECTORS AND
OTHER ITEMS NEEDED TO COMPLETE THE MODIFICATION AND TO MAKE ANY
REPAIRS REQUIRED BY HIS ACTION.
6. THE TEMPORARY CABLE CONNECTION BETWEEN ADJACENT LIGHTS OR HANDHOLE
SHALL BE DIRECTED TO RUN OUTSIDE THE SHOULDER PAVEMENT.
7. IF A LIGHTING CIRCUIT MUST BE MAINTAINED FOR ACTIVE SURFACES OUTSIDE A
WORK AREA, ELEVATED LIGHTS WITHIN THE AREA SHALL BE COVERED WITH 3’ TALL
TRAFFIC CONES (IF "JUMPER" CABLE IS NOT USED TO BYPASS THE WORK AREA).
SIGNS WITHIN THE WORK AREA OR INDICATING DIRECTION INTO THE WORK AREA
SHALL BE SHUT OFF BY THE DISCONNECT SWITCH OR ISOLATION TRANSFORMER
AND COVERED TO OBSCURE THE MESSAGE.
8. TEMPORARY ELECTRICAL WORK FOR MAINTAINING AIRFIELD LIGHTING DURING
PHASED CONSTRUCTION IS INCLUDED IN ITEM L-125.
9. SEE DRAWING EL00.0002 THROUGH EL00.0004 FOR TEMPORARY ELECTRICAL WORK
ASSOCIATED WITH CONSTRUCTION PHASING PLAN.
10. PROTECT T/W CENTERLINE LIGHTS WHEN REMOVING AND RESTRIPING T/W
CENTERLINES. THIS SHALL BE INCIDENTAL TO THE WORK.

1. THE LOCATION OF UNDERGROUND UTILITIES AS INDICATED ON PLANS HAS BEEN
OBTAINED FROM EXISTING RECORDS. NEITHER THE AUTHORITY NOR THE ARCHITECT
/ENGINEER ASSUMES ANY RESPONSIBILITY WHATEVER IN RESPECT TO THE ACCURACY,
COMPLETENESS, OR SUFFICIENCY OF THE INFORMATION SHOWN. THERE IS NO
GUARANTEE, EITHER EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED, THAT THE LOCATIONS, SIZE AND TYPE
OF MATERIALS OF EXISTING UNDERGROUND UTILITIES INDICATED ARE REPRESENTATIVE
OF THOSE TO BE ENCOUNTERED IN THE CONSTRUCTION. IT SHALL BE THE CONTRACTOR’S

2. THE LIGHTING CIRCUITS AND HOMERUN CABLES SHALL BE MARKED AND IDENTIFIED
AT ALL POINTS ACCESSIBLE TO THESE CIRCUITS IN ACCORDANCE WITH SPECIFICATION
SECTION L-108, PARA 108-3.5.
3. LOCATION SHOWN FOR EXISTING CABLES/DUCT IS APPROXIMATE. THE CONTRACTOR
SHALL EXERCISE CAUTION AND USE HAND EXCAVATION FOR ANY EXCAVATION IN THE
VICINITY OF EXISTING INSTALLATIONS. ANY DAMAGE SHALL BE REPAIRED BY THE
CONTRACTOR AT NO COST TO THE AUTHORITY. DISTURBED AREAS OUTSIDE PAVEMENT
AREAS SHALL BE RESTORED TO ORIGINAL SURFACE ELEVATION, RAKED SMOOTH AND
SEEDED.
4. TRENCHES SHALL NOT BE LEFT OPEN WHEN A T/W IS OPERATIONAL AND CONDUCTOR

5. EXISTING AIRFIELD LIGHTING SYSTEM SHALL BE KEPT IN OPERATION DURING THE
THE CONSTRUCTION UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED OR PRIOR APPROVAL HAS BEEN
OBTAINED FROM THE COTR. THIS INCLUDES ALL R/W AND T/W LIGHTING ON ACTIVE
PORTIONS. PROVIDE PLAN FOR TEMPORARY SPLICES OF PRIMARY CABLE TO MAINTAIN
CIRCUIT CONTINUITY FOR COTR APPROVAL PRIOR TO INTERRUPTING ANY CIRCUIT.
COORDINATE WITH THE ELECTRICAL MAINTENANCE SHOP FOR SHUTTING OFF LIGHTING
CIRCUITS IN AFL VAULTS.
6. ANY UNPROTECTED CABLE (DIRECT BURIED) ENCOUNTERED THAT IS VERIFIED AS NOT
ABANDONED IN PLACE SHALL BE PLACED IN SPLIT DUCT OF APPROPRIATE SIZE AND
CONCRETE ENCASED THROUGH THE AREA OF CONSTRUCTION. CONTRACTOR SHALL
TAKE ALL REASONABLE MEASURES TO AVOID HAVING TO CUT AND SPLICE DIRECT
BURIED CABLE. BE SURE TO NOTE SPLIT DUCT PORTIONS ON AS-BUILTS.
7. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL STAKE OUT THE ROUTE FOR NEW CONDUITS AND OBTAIN
COTR APPROVAL BEFORE STARTING THE TRENCHING AT EACH SITE.
8. SEE CIVIL SERIES DRAWINGS FOR CIVIL DEMOLITION AND CONSTRUCTION, STRIPING
AND OTHER CIVIL ITEMS OF WORK.
9. USING PAINTING MATERIALS, STENCILS AND DESIGNATIONS APPROVED BY THE
ENGINEER, PAINT HANDHOLE NAMES ON THE INSIDE OF EACH HANDHOLE FRAME,
AND MAJOR COMPASS POINTS ON EACH WALL OF THE HANDHOLE.

1. HEAVY DUTY AIPORT LOADING:

2. IRGL HANDHOLE SHALL BE AS SHOWN ON PLAN, INSIDE
DIMENSIONS AS FOLLOWS:

IRGL HANDHOLES WILL SUPPORT ISOLATION TRANSFORMERS
FOR THE IRGL AND A POWER ADAPTOR TO PROVIDE 120V
POWER FOR THE FCU. DUCT ENTRY/EXIT SHALL BE ON
OPPOSITE ENDS OF THE HANDHOLE, WITH SHELVES AND
RACKS ON THE OTHER 2 SIDES. IRGL FIXTURES, CONDUCTOR,
TRANSFORMERS AND FCU POWER ADAPTOR TO BE
FURNISHED AND INSTALLED BY THE CONTRACTOR.
3. FRAME AND COVER TO BE NEENAH, TYPE 3498-R2S (HINGED,
HOLD-OPEN SAFETY DEVICE, SPRING ASSISTED), OR EQUAL.
4. 6" DEEP SHELVES SHALL BE NON-METALLIC. ALTERNATIVELY
RACKS MAY BE USED FOR SUPPORTING THE ISOLATION
TRANSFORMERS IF SHAPED TO HOLD THE ITEMS IN PLACE, AS
APPROVED. SHELF DETAILS SHALL BE SUBMITTED FOR APPROVAL.
5. MOUNTING ARMS AND BRACKETS SHALL BE NON-METALLIC.
6. CONDUITS CONNECTING TO IRGL HANDHOLE SHALL BE AS REQUIRED

1. FCU CABINET AND IRGL CONTROL EQUIPMENT SHALL BE SOLE
SOURCED BY CIM AUTOMATION AND INSTALLED BY CONTRACTOR.
CONTRACTOR TO PROVIDE ALL CONDUITS AND COUPLINGS.
2. ENCLOSURE TO BE NEMA 4X, CONSTRUCTED OF STAINLESS
STEEL. ENCLOSURES TO HAVE OVERALL DIMENSIONS AS FOLLOWS:
SINGLE DOOR - 30"x24"x12"
3. P-405 HMA STRIP AROUND FOUNDATION IS INCIDENTAL TO THE COST
OF THE FCU CONCRETE PAD. CABLE AND 2" PVC CONDUIT WILL
BE PAID FOR UNDER THE 5KV CABLE PAY ITEM.
4. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE FCU CONCRETE FOUNDATIONS,
HOUSEKEEPING PAD, AND CONDUIT INSTALLATIONS. THE CONTRACTOR
SHALL PROVIDE AND INSTALL ALL RGL FO WITHIN THE FCU CABINET.
CIM AUTOMATION WILL TERMINATE AND TEST THE FO CABLE. THE
CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE AND INSTALL ALL INPAVEMENT 5KV
CABLE AND ISOLATION TRANSFORMERS WITHIN THE IRGL HANDHOLE
AND INSTALL SECONDARY CABLE FROM EACH ISOLATION TRANSFORMER
THROUGH THE FCU AND TERMINATE THE SECONDARY CABLE AT EACH
INPAVEMENT FIXTURE.
