Summary of Forestry Commission analysis of IRS for Wildfire evidence

• DCLG has provide Forestry Commission with IRS data for 3 years for wildfire data in England.
• Forestry Commission Scotland and Natural Resource Wales gained agreement for Forestry Commission England to carry out GB analysis from devolved administrations.
• Analysis was undertaken by Forest Services GIS specialist with advice and support from DCLG.
• Covers wildfires attended by Fire and Rescue Services during FY2009/10 to 2012/13

• +71,000 hectares burnt between FY2009/10 to 2012/13• +37,000 hectares burnt in FY2011/12
• +211,000 wildfire incident between FY2009/10 to 2012/13
• +65,000 incidents in FY2010/11
• Wildfire incident duration +181,000 hours between FY2009/10 to FY2012/13 or 14 years and 7 months man time
• Wildfire incident duration of +37,000 hours in FY2011/12 or 4 years and 6 months man time
