Summary Elements Mix-Up General Directions:
Students are asked to organize the summary elements for the text structures listed below. These structures focus on the global meaning of the text and therefore are used as key elements in producing a well-written summary when applied to reading selections. Academic terms and useful words for writing a summary are included. The goal of this activity is to familiarize the students with the general structures that writers use to write. This gives students elements to think about as they read and greatly improves comprehension. This activity also helps students practice important academic vocabulary in both reading and writing. Note: More than once copy of the cards per page is provided to maximize use of paper.
