The National Information System for Zoonoses (SINZOO) in Italy
Every year the data on zoonoses in the veterinary sector, collected on the basis of EEC Directive 2003/99/EC, are sent bythe member states to the European Food Safety Authority(EFSA) which analyzes and aggregates them for the preparationof a report of the European Union available on the internethttp://www.efsa.europa.eu in collaboration with the DanishInstitute for Food and Veterinary Research ZoonosesCollaboration Center (ZCC)
DIRECTIVE 2003/99/ECOF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCILOn the monitoring of zoonoses and zoonotic agents
(10) The collection of data on the occurrence of zoonoses and zoonotic agents inanimals, food, feed and humans is necessary to determine the trendsand sources of zoonoses.
(14) Where necessary to make data easier to compile and compare, monitoringshould take place on a harmonised basis. This would make it possible to evaluatetrends and sources of zoonoses and zoonotic agents within the Community. The data collected, together with data from other sources, should form the basisfor risk assessment of zoonotic organisms.

Regulation (EC) N° 1760/2000 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 17 July 2000 establishing a system for the identification and registration of bovine animals and regarding the labelling of beef and beef products and repealing Council Regulation (EC) N° 820/97

The individual identification code of National Bovine Identification database allowstracing information about sex and age of animals, farm of origin and any change ofproperty, besides slaughtering date and abattoir codes.
• The retrospective study conducted by CeNRE has analysed data of 6.397 cattle (medium prevalence 3,6% IC 0,49%) slaughtered in Sardinia from 2009 to 2014
• 1.360 cattle positive for CE slaughtered in Sardinia in 2009, 925 in 2010 and 964 in 2011, 1.275 in 2012, 951 in 2013, 922 in 2014.
• Peak prevalence in cows = 26%
• 9.023 cattle farms (256,649 heads) were distributed in the Sardinian territory of 361 municipalities (BDN)
• Sardinian Slaughter cattle’s database included 6.398 cattle farms (70%) of which 38% were positive.
• It was therefore possible to localize and make a territorial distribution study, a statistical analysis as well as a cluster analysis.
• Mapinfo and software SatScan to realize thematic maps that give an immediate visual results.
• One Health approach
Problem solving…
Descriptive analysis of all the included variables
Quantification of data missing
Search for missing data from other sources
Use of Multiple Imputation Methods for some variables
Risk assesment using Poisson Regression model
Animal and human monitoring and reporting information
Monitoring of intermediate hosts at slaughterhouse level through meat
inspection
Report to CeNRE and to OEVR
Hospital Discharge Records from Regional Hospitals
Mandatory notification of positive cases
All these collected data:
• Processed as previously described
• Matched with HDRs and the data of territorial distribution of CE in sheep
Could lead to create a risk map
We still have a long way to go!
