Choral Call to Worship Gabe Smith, Candle Lighter

“There Is A Savior” Greg Nelson Sanctuary Choir

There is a Savior, What joys express! His eyes are mercy; His Word is rest. For each tomorrow, for yesterday. There is a Savior who lights our way.

Gathering Prayer

Songs of Praise “Our God Saves” (Please stand if able) Paul Baloche

In the name of the Father, in the name of the Son, In the name of the Spirit Lord we come; We're gather'd together to lift up Your name, To call on our Savior to fall on Your grace. Hear the joyful sound of our offering, As Your saints bow down, as Your people sing. We will rise with You lifted on Your wings, And the world will see that

Our God saves, our God saves. There is hope in Your name. Mourning turns to songs of praise, Our God saves, our God saves. (Repeat From Beginning) Our God saves, our God saves, Our God saves.

“No Sweeter Name” Kari Jobe

No sweeter name than the Name of Jesus, No sweeter name have I ever known. No sweeter name than the Name of Jesus. No sweeter name than the Name of Jesus, No sweeter name have I ever known. No sweeter name than the Name of Jesus. (Chorus) You are the life to my heart and my soul, You are the light to the darkness around me. You are the hope to the hopeless and broken, You are the only truth and the way. Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus. (Chorus)

Children’s Time Sue Chandler

Children are a blessing to the family of God. We provide the opportunity for children to worship at their own level at Worship Readiness. Teachers are available to escort children ages 3 - 1st grade to the Fellowship Hall building. After worship, 3 year olds can be picked up from the nursery. Fours - 1st graders participating in Worship Readiness, can be found in the Bethany Bible classroom. Note: All elementary age children should be seated with their parents at this time.

Children’s Hymn “Jesus Loves Me”

Warner/Bradbury Hymnal No. 185

Jesus loves me! This I know, for the Bible tells me so. Little ones to Him belong; They are weak but He is strong. Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me! The Bible tells me so.

Offering Offertory “Come, Christians, Join To Sing”

MADRID/G. Young

Sanctuary Choir

Come, Christians, join to sing Alleluia! Amen!

Loud praise to Christ our King; Alleluia! Amen!

Let all, with heart and voice, Before His throne rejoice;

Praise is His gracious choice: Alleluia! Amen!

Sing alleluia, O sing alleluia!

Come, lift your hearts on high; Alleluia! Amen!

Let praises fill the sky; Alleluia! Amen!

He is our Guide and Friend; to us He’ll condescend;

His love shall never end; Alleluia! Amen!

Amen! Amen!

Doxology Hymn No. 815 (please stand if able)

Praise God from whom all blessings flow. Praise Him all creatures here below. Praise Him above ye heavenly host. Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Prayers of the People and The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Hymn “All People That On Earth Do Dwell” (please stand if able) Hymn No. 101

All people that on earth do dwell, Sing to the Lord with cheerful voice. Him serve with fear; His praise forthtell. Come ye before Him and rejoice. The Lord, ye know, is God indeed; Without our aid He did us make. We are His flock; He doth us feed, And for His sheep He doth us take. O enter then His gates with praise; Approach with joy His courts unto. Praise, laud, and bless His Name always, For it is seemly so to do. For why? The Lord our God is good; His mercy is forever sure. His truth at all times firmly stood, And shall from age to age endure. To Father, Son and Holy Ghost, The God whom heav'n and earth adore, From earth and from the angel host Be praise and glory evermore. Amen.

Sermon Lesson II Corinthians 12: 1 - 10 Pew Bible page 822

1I must go on boasting. Although there is nothing to be gained, I will go on to visions and revelations from the Lord. 2 I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven. Whether it was in the body or out of the body I do not know—God knows. 3 And I know that this man—whether in the body or apart from the body I do not know, but God knows— 4 was caught up to paradise and heard inexpressible things, things that no one is permitted to tell. 5 I will boast about a man like that, but I will not boast about myself, except about my weaknesses. 6 Even if I should choose to boast, I would not be a fool, because I would be speaking the truth. But I refrain, so no one will think more of me than is warranted by what I do or say, 7 or because of these surpassingly great revelations. Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. 8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. 9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 10 That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Sermon “Sufficient Grace” Text: “My grace is sufficient” (II Corinthians 12:9)

Time of Reflection

Hymn “The Church’s One Foundation”

(please stand if able) Hymn No. 401

The Church’s one foundation is Jesus Christ, her Lord; She is His new creation by water and the Word: From heav'n He came and sought her to be His holy bride; With His own blood He bought her and for her life He died. Elect from every nation, yet one o’er all the earth, Her charter of salvation: one Lord, one faith, one birth; One holy name she blesses, partakes one holy food; And to one hope she presses, with every grace endued.

Page 7: “Sufficient Grace” - carmelpresbyterian.orgcarmelpresbyterian.org/download/bulletins/Oct-9-bulletin.pdf · Sermon “Sufficient Grace ... The Heaven series will be led by Hilda

Mid toil and tribulation and tumult of her war, She waits the consummation of peace forevermore; Till with the vision glorious Her longing eyes are blest, And the great Church victorious shall be the Church at rest. Yet she on earth has union with God, the Three in One, And mystic, sweet communion with those whose rest is won; O happy ones and holy! Lord, give us grace that we Like them, the meek and lowly, on high may dwell with Thee. Benediction

There will be a congregational meeting held on Sunday, October 16th

following the worship service, to hear a recommendation from the Associate Pastor Nominating Committee.

Crop Walk Is Almost Here!

Carmel has been participating in the Crop Walk to help fight hunger for many years. It will be Sunday, October 16th, and we will leave the church around 1:30 pm. If you would like to walk or sponsor a walker, please stop by the table outside the Fellowship Hall after Sunday's service.

Trunk or Treat is Coming!

The annual fall festival will be held on Saturday, October 29th starting at 6:00 p.m. Volunteers are needed to decorate trunks and give out candy, to lead games, and to help set up the event. If you would like to help, please speak to Matt or Susan Covington, or email Susan at [email protected]. You may also sign up on the church website. Candy donations would be appreciated and are being collected in the Church office or at the entrance of the Fellowship Hall on Sundays.

Operation Christmas Child

It's time to think about getting those shoeboxes ready for children around the world. Many summer items and back-to-school items are drastically reduced now. You can look at clearance items and get so much more for your investment. Connie Tricebock will place a collection box in the fellowship hall for donated items and we will begin packing boxes in November. It's not too early to start. We already have lots of toothbrushes, so you might want to focus on other items. Thank you for your help. If you have questions, call or text Connie at (704) 493-3151, OR you can go to https://www.samaritanspurse.org/operation-christmas-child for great ideas and great stories of how your gifts help others see the love of God through you.

Wednesday Night Fellowship Dinners

Wednesday Night Fellowship dinners have started! Join us for a simple but tasty meal at 5:30pm (New time) in the Fellowship Hall. Please use a pew rack reservation card or call Darlene in the office by noon on Monday. This week’s dinner will be: Pizza, salad, and dessert.

Wednesday Night Study Series – Heaven

Come join us on Wednesday nights, from 6:30 to 7:15 pm to study and discuss Heaven. If someone is making plans to travel somewhere on earth, they find out about the place they are going to go. That is exactly what we should do on the subject of Heaven. Scripture commands us “set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God; set your minds on things above, not on earthly things” (Colossians 3: 1-2). The Heaven series will be led by Hilda Rutherford, Leslie Teague, Bill Dominick, and Don Wood.

Youth Wednesday Nights Youth group is back, and we are mixing it up! Weekly meetings will be held on Wednesday nights from 5:45 to 7:30 pm for both middle and high schoolers. The youth will participate in the study of heaven and learn about the place God has waiting for us. Expect engaging lessons and fun activities! Parents, a letter with additional details is forthcoming.

[email protected]. Carmel Reading Group: has selected a book recommended by Steve and Karen Lynip for our October meeting. The New York Times bestselling author Nabeel Quresh answers many questions surrounding jihad, the rise of ISIS, and Islamic terrorism in his latest book Answering Jihad, A Better Way Forward. Quresh is also the author of Seeking Allah, Finding Jesus, the only book ever to win Christian Book Awards for both “Best New Author” and “Best Nonfiction.” He is a speaker with Ravi Zacharias International Ministries. He holds degrees in medicine, Christian apologetics, and Religion. He is pursuing a doctorate in New Testament Studies at Oxford University. Answering Jihad provides insights to the questions we are all trying to answer. What really is jihad? Who are the true Muslims? Is Islam a “religion of “peace?” And perhaps most important: How are we to move forward? We hope you will get a copy of Answering Jihad and join us for our discussion at 6:00, October 16, in the Library. Call Hilda Rutherford for information (704-542-9918). Ladies Circle: Ladies, join us for circle on Tuesday, October 11 in the library. We will be studying another John Ortberg book with video called When the Game is Over, It All Goes Back in the Box. Books will be available at the meeting. We will again be making sandwiches for Urban Ministry uptown. For questions call Nancy Anderson -704-366-2763.

Scripture tells us to “pray for one another” (James 5: 16). We alphabetically rotate through our church membership on an annual basis, and

each week we pray as a body for specific Carmel families. Although you may not know each member, our God is faithful to listen to the prayers we bring on each other’s behalf before his throne. When there is a month which has a fifth Sunday, our staff members are the focus of our prayers. This week we invite you to include the following families in your daily prayers: Connie Garrett; Jonathan and Ashley Gibson – Grayson and Harper; Joey and Ginger Godbold; Charles and Joan Griffin. We would also like to invite the Carmel family to lift up the following college students in your daily prayer: Madison Rowe; Jess Stafford; Virginia McNeill.
