Already, Univation is licensing its technology to Pemex Petroquimica for a 300,000 tonne/y Swing polyethylene being built at Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz state. The $104 M polyethylene unit is due to start up in 1Q 2006. The Univation metallocene-based technology features reduced operating costs and will enable Pemex to meet growing demand in Mexico for a range of advance polyethylene products. The gas-phase process provides the flexibility to produce HDPE, LDPE, and metallocene polyethylene in a single plant. Under the agreements, Total Petrochemicals will construct a demonstration plant at its petrochemicals complex in Feluy, Belgium. The demonstration plant will consist of a UOP/HYDRO methanol- to-olefin (MTO) process unit and a Total Petrochemicals/UOP Olefin Cracking process unit. The integrated plant will feed an existing, large-scale polymerisation pilot plant. The basic engineering for the demonstration plant is complete and detailed engineering, procurement, and construction activities are scheduled to start before the end of 2005. The demonstration plant is expected to come on stream in 2007.
