Recycling

WORKSHEET 3 Tell your students to write the vocabulary below the pictures and draw lines to the recycling bins where they should go.

Synopsis Alice gets up one morning and goes about her usual routine: she goes into the bathroom, turns on the light and gets ready for school. She turns on the tap and brushes her teeth. When her dad calls her for breakfast she forgets to turn off the light and the tap. Her dad gets her lunch ready and Alice insists on having everything in a separate plastic bag. Instead of a flask she wants a can and instead of going to school by bike she wants her dad to take her in his car. Unconsciously, Alice is wasting a lot of the earth’s resources. It’s time for Super Sue to come to the rescue. She teaches Alice to remember to turn off the tap and light, to recycle rubbish and not to use so many plastic bags. Alice is happy when she goes to school, ready to change and help save the world. But at school she meets the Ugly Bugly disguised as her teacher. The Ugly Bugly wants to destroy the world by teaching the children to throw paper away and leave all the lights on. Now Alice is confused, she doesn’t know what to do. Should she listen to Super Sue or to the Ugly Bugly? In the end it’s the audience who helps Alice decide what to do. Aim: to learn vocabulary related to pollution and the environment.

WORKSHEET 1 Use the flashcards to teach students vocabulary related to the play and issues such as pollution and the environment. Answers: can (aluminium), on/off, recycling bins, lunchbox/flask, pollution, waste, organic rubbish, vegetable garden, renewable energy, atmosphere.

How to look after the environment. The use of SHOULD/SHOULDN’T

WORKSHEET 4 Tell students they can do lots of things to look after the planet. Younger kids can tick or cross the right boxes. Older kids from Cicle Mitjà and Superior can also write sentences below the pictures. Answers: You shouldn’t leave the tap on. You should turn off the lights. You shouldn’t use plastic bags. You should ride your bike. You shouldn’t throw rubbish away at the beach. You shouldn’t go to school by car.

WORKSHEET 2 Tell your students to read about the three main characters in the play. What do they do? Who should Alice listen to? Listen to the SUPER SUE song and tell your students to choose the right word and sing along. Answers: trouble, fight, right.

Comparative forms and vocabulary review.

WORKSHEET 6 (Cicle Mitjà I Superior) Students have to look at the two pictures and write comparative sentences. E.g. In picture A the air is cleaner than in picture B. WORKSHEET 6b WORDSEARCH. Find the ten words (they are across and down) Answers: planet, atmosphere, ecological, recycling, organic, bin, pollution, dust, environment, can.
