to talk about similarity- it can be used for emphasis and is often used in idioms

Similarity:He talks just like a teacher whom I hate, in fact he reminds me of her in many ways.

Emphasis:He acts just like someone who has not received education in all his life.

Idiom:I have a memory like an elephant.Students often go to exams like a lamb to the slaughter.Before her big date, Alice was like a cat on a hot tin roof.

To ask questions:What does he look like? He is tall, dark and handsome.What was it like? Fantastic-they played for more than 3 hours.What would you like? Anything that can be eaten-Im starving!

We can use alike:

as an adjective, meaning similar or like each other

as an adverb, meaning in the same manner, form or degree
