installedtheAlistersysteminTrafikverket‘smajor

gravityhumpyardsinBorlänge,Gothenburg,Malmö

andHallsbergwhereitcontrolsthefullyautomatic

operationofhumpshuntingprocedures(excluding

carretardersandretardercontrol).

ThefirstAlisterinterlockinginBorlängewentinto

successfuloperationin1998.Theyardhas24sorting

tracks.Since2000,humpyardoperationsatSävenäs

(Gothenburg)with2parallelleadtracksandatotal

of34sortingtrackshavebeencontrolledbytheAlis-

tersystem.Thecapacityhereis200carsperhour.

InthemarshallingyardatMalmö,withacapacityof

approx.180carsperhour,thenewsystemhasbeen

inoperationsincemid-2003.Inmid-2004theAlister

systemwascommissionedinthemarshallingyardat

Hallsbergwhichisthecentralhubforgoodstraffic

betweenStockholm,GothenburgandMalmöand

has2leadtracksand32sortingtracks.Thismarshal-

lingyardcanhandleupto200carsperhour.

themarshallingyardatSjöbangårdenbyScheidt

&BachmannSystemTechnikfortheSwedishLuos-

savaara-KiirunavaaraABGroup(LKAB),oneofthe

world‘slargestproducersofironoreforthesteel

industry.TheAlistersystemprovidesareliableinter-

lockingplatformwhichensuresoptimallogisticsfor

railtransportofironore.

Inthemine‘srailyardupto70,000tonsofironore

perdayareloadedontoloretrainsandtransported

totheportsofNarvik(Norway)andLuleå(Sweden).

The68specialwagonsofeachtrainholdapprox.

6,800tonsofironore,givingthetrainsanoverall

weightof8,000tons.Othertrainstransportlarge

quantitiesofcoal,oil,limeandbentonitewhichare

neededtomineandpre-processtheore.

Additionalpointsandsignalswereintegratedinto

theexistinginterlockingduringextensionworkat

Sjöbangårdenin2012.Now,alltrafficonthemine‘s

ownrailnetworkwithatotalof55pointsisopera-

tedfromonecontrolcentrebytheAlistersystem.

Theinterlockingplatformbasedontriedandtested

standardcomponentshasprovedtobeveryreliable.

Itensuresefficientoperation,evenundertheextre-

meclimacticconditionsnorthoftheArcticCircle.

Technicalfeatures:

¢ Centrally controlled marshalling yard interlocking with

workstation in compliance with the Trafikverket standard

¢ PLC technology, therefore flexible and inexpensive to

upgrade

¢ Highly reliable even in extreme environmental conditions

with temperatures as low as minus 25° Celsius

Aspartofaframeworkagreementcoveringaperiod

ofseveralyears,Scheidt&BachmannSystemTech-

nikhasinstalledanewdepotcontrolsystemforDa-

nishStateRailways(DSB).Thesystemoptimisesthe

operation,safetyandefficiencyinnewdepotsbuilt

especiallyforpassengermotorcoachtrains.

Incontrasttotheearliermanualroutesettingby

shuntingpersonnel,thenewcontrolsystemenab-

lestechnicallyadvancedandstandardoperation

oftheshuntingareas:theroutesarenowsetand

securedbythetraindriversatthepressofabutton

bymeansoflocallyoperatedelectricpoints.Manual

pointsswitchingandadditionalstaffarenolonger

necessary.Thismakesdepotoperationsfaster,more

efficientandaboveall,safer.

Thesituationineachdepotaswellastheoverall

statusofalldepotlocationsismonitoredbyacentral

supervisorterminalinthecontrolcentreinCopen-

hagen.

Elevendepotcontrolinstallationshavesofarbeen

commissionedsothatnowallofDSB‘simportant

depotshavebeenequippedwiththenewautomatic

depotcontrolsystembyScheidt&BachmannSystem

Scheidt&BachmannSystemTechnikconcludeda

frameworkcontractforthedeliveryoflocallyope-

ratedelectricpointsandelectronicinterlockings

forshuntingareas.ThefunctionalitiesoftheAlister

systemssuppliedbyScheidt&BachmannSystem

Technikhavebeentailoredtothedifferentcapaci-

tiesandrequirementsoftheindividualtrackareas.

Theyrangefromlocallyoperatedelectricpointsand

routesettingfunctionsusingroutecontrolpanelsor

simpleworkstationstoacentrallycontrolledelectro-

nicinterlocking.Allvariationshavebeendeveloped

andapprovedincompliancewithCENELECSIL2.

Theuseofstandardindustrialcomponentsand

advanceddevelopmentprocessesmadeitpossible

tocommissionthefirstfourinterlockingswithina

shortperiodofonlyafewmonths.Thisincludesthe

newÖBBServiceCentreinVienna-Matzleinsdorf

with41pointsand54marshallingsignalsandGraz

centralstationwith42pointsand49signalswhich

arethelargestinstallationssofar.Theinstallations

areoperatedonthebasisoftheAustrianstandard

userinterface(EBO2)inthesamewayastheelec-

tronicinterlockingsonthemainlinenetwork.The

interlockingalsohasastandardinterfacewhich

enablesremotecontrolfromexistingneighbouring

interlockingsoracontrolcentre.

electronic interlocking workstation or from a control

Thesystemforautomaticlocationdetectionand

managementofconstructionsitetrainsisanessen-

tialpartofthelogisticsrequiredfortheinstallation

ofrailwaytechnologyinthetunnel.Duringtheentire

buildingphasethissystemmonitorsrailoperations

ontheinstallationsitestothenorthandsouthof

thetunnel,theapproachsectionsandinsidethetwo

57kmlongtunneltubes.Itisoperatedcentrallyin

thecontrolcentreslocatedontheinstallationsites

RynächtandBiasca.Thesolutiondevelopedforthis

projectallowsforexpansionofthemonitoredarea

correspondingtotheprogressoftheconstruction

work.

ThesystemwasfirstinstalledatBiascaandwascom-

missionedinmid-2010.Allpointsarecontrolled

fromcentralworkstations.Somecanalsobeswitched

bymeansoflocallyoperatedelectricpoints.Thefirst

tunnelsectionandtheinstallationatRynächttothe

northofthetunnelwerecommissionedin2011.Cur-

rently,installationworkintheothertunnelsections

isprogressingsectionbysection.Thetemporaryrail-

wayinstallationswillremaininplacefortheentire

constructionperiod.Alllocationdetectionfacilities

willbecompletelyremovedpriortothecommissio-

ningoftheGotthardBaseTunnelwhichisplanned

forlate2016.

interlocking

upgrade parallel to construction progress in the tunnel

ThecompactandmodulardesignoftheAlister

systemenablesflexibleadaptationtothespecificre-

quirementsofthemarshallingyardatŽilinaTeplicka

whichhas18pointsand18sortingtracks.

Dataonthecarstobeaddedtoortakenfromthe

trainsenteringandleavingtheyardarepassedto

thecutlist.OnthebasisofthislistAlisterauto-

maticallysetstheroutestodirectthecarscorrectly

intotherequiredsortingtracks.Integrationofthe

retardercontrolsystemofProcesnáAutomatizácia

a.s.,Košice,allowsexactregulationoftheshunting

speedtoensuresafeoperation.

Inadditiontocontrollinggravityhumpoperations,

theAlisterelectronicinterlockingalsoensuressafe

operationofnormalshuntingmovementsinthe

entiremarshallingyard.

tionsofHamburgerHochbahn.

ThenewAlisterinterlockingsarealsoequippedwith

arelayinterfacetoensuretechnicalexchangeof

signalsfortheroutesbetweentheBarmbekinterlo-

ckingandtheinterlockingsinthedepots.

Inadditiontoroutesettingandpointscontrol,the

interlockings‘functionsalsoincludecontrolofwork-

shopdoors,safetyinstallationsanddepotwarning

systems.

Implementationperiod:

Technicalfeatures:

¢ The interlockings can be operated by Hamburger

Hochbahn‘s control system or from a local workstation

according to the catalogue of symbols used by

Hamburger Hochbahn

¢ The interlockings have a relay interface to the geographi-

cal circuit interlocking in Barmbek to ensure exchange of

signals

¢ Functionalities include control of workshop doors, safety

installations and depot warning systems

¢ Implemented with industrial components on the basis of

a fail-safe PLC

¢ Development and approval in compliance

with CENELEC SIL 2
