Evander Mine: Successful completion of
the tower installation project enabling the mine
to undertake safe shaft pillar extraction
We congratulate our Evander project crews who successfully installed a shaft compensating tower for our client within budget and exceeding all time, quality and safety requirements under extremely challenging conditions. Special thanks to the team for working safely together and achieving this without a single injury to any of the crew: You are all role models to our other crews!
Evander mine is a 50-year old mine and we provided our client with an innovative solution towards end of life mining, using the existing 8 shaft to allow for shaft pillar extraction in close proximity to the shaft without compromising shaft integrity. The project was a collaboration between our Mets Mining and Shaft Sinkers Mining divisions. Solutions were found to install a compensating tower between 14-16 levels, using highly innovative design approaches to protect shaft integrity as designed by our Mets Mining division. The designed shaft tower was then installed by Shaft Sinkers Mining.
