PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
What i NTU and why should I attend?
NTU stands for New Teacher University and it provides professional learning opportunities, guidance, and support
for teachers new to College Station ISD. This two and a half day training is required for all teachers new to CSISD,
and is held in August prior to district-wide staff development days.
NTU 2019 August 5, 6, 7
The program also includes comprehensive year-long support in small cohorts for all teachers. Follow up days during
the year will reinforce district priorities with continued professional development and will provide opportunities for
teachers to visit other classrooms in a "Grand Rounds" format with reflection time centered on what they observed.
Teachers new to CSISD are required to attend. Non-teaching staff such as counselors, nurses, special services,
librarians, and administrators are not required to attend NTU in August; however, we would like to invite all of our new
professional staff to attend breakfast and to hear the superintendent's keynote address to the staff on the first
day of NTU. If you are not required to attend but are interested in attending one or more sessions, we'd be delighted
to see you there!
Non-teaching professional staff will receive job-specific orientation and ongoing professional development from their
respective department leaders.
10
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Ongoing Professional Development Opportunities
College Station ISO believes in lifelong learning for each employee because learning is a continual process that
everyone should be engaged in throughout their career. Each campus provides professional development in various
forms and formats which may include weekly, bi-weekly, and/ or monthly professional learning opportunities. At the
district level, there are many opportunities to attend workshops and learning sessions in a variety of different
academic content areas. We offer online learning options as well as face to face learning options for all employees.
New Teacher University
New Teacher University (NTU) is part of the induction process for all new instructional staff hired into CSISD.
All new instructional hires, regardless of years of experience, are required to attend NTU. This program is
geared toward professional learning, guidance, information about CSISO, and support for teachers new to
College Station. NTU is a three day program that occurs in the three days leading up to the first day of district
wide staff development.
NTU also includes a year long support process for all teachers. You will be assigned a cohort and will be
involved in follow up days throughout the school year. The purpose of these days is to serve as a check in for
you as a new teacher, to see different classrooms in action through our grand rounds process, and to continue
to grow you as a professional. You will be provided more information about NTU and the entire process in August.
Gifted and Talented Training
All teachers new to College Station ISD are required to complete the Initial Gifted and Talented 30 hour training
session. If you have already completed this training in a previous district, you are able to transfer that credit to
CSISO by simply providing a copy of your certificate of completion. If you have not completed the training we
have face to face and online learning options available for you to utilize. More information will be shared
regarding GT required training through Human Resources and as a part of NTU.
Leadership Development Programs
In College Station ISO we want to grow and develop our own leaders. Being a member of the CSISD family will
allow you opportunities to be a part of a variety of campus and district committees and leadership development
opportunities. As a new teacher or a teacher new to CSISD, you may not be quite ready to take on this level of
professional development, but know that the opportunities are there for our staff to grow their leadership skills
and opportunities.

is intended to provide continuous, year-round income for all monthly employees, including
those who work on a 1 O or 11-month work schedule. CSISD issues paychecks on the 10th and
25th of each month.
Child Nutrition, maintenance, grounds, substitutes, Kids Klub, and temporary employees are
paid hourly wages. Paychecks for these employees will be issued on the 10th and 25th of the
month for actual hours reported through the designated payroll closing date.
Who should I contact with payroll questions?
Any payroll questions can be directed to Carla Mitchell at [email protected] or at 764-5405.

State minimum personal leave is dictated by the Texas Education Agency. The remaining balance of your state leave
can be transferred to any K-12 institution within the state of Texas should you choose to leave CSISD. Local days are
provided by CSISD and are not transferable to any other institution. Employees who are contracted to work 240 or
more days per year also receive vacation leave.
When can employees use their leave?
USE OF LEAVE: Except in extenuating circumstances, a notice for personal leave needs to be submitted to the principal or
supervisor three days in advance of the anticipated absence. Absences are submitted on line through the Frontline Absence
management system, and absences must also be communicated with supervisors as directed by the campus or department.
DURATION OF LEAVE: Use of state personal leave cannot exceed three consecutive workdays, unless approved by the
school principal or designee. Employees who are absent more than three consecutive work days due to personal or family
illness must submit a medical certification from a qualified health provider. Contact the Human Resources department if you
have questions regarding extended leave.
SCHEDULE LIMITATIONS: Personal leave is not allowed on the day before a school holiday, the day after a school holiday, or
days scheduled for District-wide standardized tests unless approved by the Director for Human Resources as well as your
school principal and/or supervisor. To request approval for use of personal days during these times, you must request the
leave at least 3 days prior to the anticipated absence and receive prior approval from your campus principal or supervisor.

LEAVE TIME
What happens if I have leftover leave time?
At the end of each school year, any unused local sick leave or state personal leave is carried over to the next
school year if you remain working for CSISD.
Who should I contact with questions about leave?
Additional details regarding leave can be found in the CSISD Employee Handbook. Employees should direct specific
questions about leave and usage to their campus principal or supervisor. If you need additional assistance, please
contact the CSISD Human Resources office at 764-5411 or [email protected].
