    How to Succeed in College

    After a long period of schooling a student feels free in a college as he/she is believed to gainindependence and it is at this time one grows up into an adult, when he/she will have a lot ofoptions, choices and streams for life ahead. Not all succeed during or after college but it is also

    not impossible to succeed in life after higher studies in college. There is no mid path betweensuccess and failure as students either succeed or fail in life. When we analyze the experiences ofthe successful students in college, we get to now that they have adopted certain ways in lifewith utmost discipline and dedication, as without sincerity and dedication no one can succeed.There are three ways generalized for the attainment of success in college they are! "tudying,socializing, and health, safety and finances.

    Studying

    This is the first method of getting successful in life and this method consists of certain steps for a

    student to adopt for success such as avoiding procrastination by which the student unli ethe school needs wor harder as he/she is independent has to build up the education from

    bottom up and not give up what is being taught in the class room which re#uires givingoneself incentives to study in advance and not should not ta e for granted until the term

    paper is finished followed by an en$oyment with friends. %n other words, the studentshould not ta e undue advantage of his/her freedom and concentrate on completing whathe/she is expected to do and then can go ahead for en$oyment. &e needs to plan to fit intoall the social, academic, and logistical responsibilities in college and still have time forhimself.

    A student has to get passionate about a definite purpose in his life as college is another step onthe ladder to professional success. 'ne has to decide about his career as to what he is going to doafter the college for which he needs to prepare well for his next step. 'ne has to be very

    passionate about anything in life if he/she wants to succeed in that line. The next step is to ta e a broad range of classes in the beginning even if the goal is set in one(s educational sphere as itgood to expose oneself to various sub$ects, fields and themes and not change every now andthen. A shift in the goal or sub$ect or theme would hamper the speed with which one is bound toreach the destination.

    %t is better to listen to other students and get more nowledge about the sub$ect but should bewise enough to form his/her own opinion such the opinions of other students regarding theteachers, sub$ects, boo s, etc., which may not be totally true. "o after some time of an exposureto the facts, one should be able to form his own opinion. The students at college level shouldcome closer to the teachers and get engaged with them for it can help them gain morenowledge) get a bigger networ with more nowledgeable persons. %t is very essential for astudent to form good study habits which would positively answer some ey #uestions about one

    regarding the studies and the time spent in learning. A student without an academic goal hasevery chance to leave college wondering whether he/she tried enough as getting through collegeis about doing one(s best that he/she is capable of given the resources.

    Socializing

    "ocializing is e#ually important in a student(s life and one has to establish as many friendships as possible in order to learn from them. 'ne has to get involved in curricular and extracurricularactivities at college such as $oin the clubs, traditions and events because college events aredifferent from the compulsory events at school. *ollege is a C'est la vies ! it+s a cross section oflife. The college students should ma e it a point to participate in parties but should maintainone(s own dignity and grace and not be undisciplined. %t is at this level that students get in to badhabits and addiction and one has to be away from such substances. And should protect fromundesired sexual engagements and involvements, which re#uires a detail information the sub$ectsli e sex and its related hazards. "ocialization itself means getting along with others and being

    alone serves no purpose. Never should one eat alone. 'ne should ma e the most of youropportunities while you+re in college and turn time in the mess hall into a rewarding lesson in

    personal development.

    Health, Safety and Finances:

    An individual gets a chance to develop himself at the college level at which time one should notneglect his/her health. 'ne should eat well and get ade#uate rest and be very particular about thediet, time and exercise. 'ne should be very conscious of the contents of his/her food and diet asthis is the time one gets to build up the health and body. "leep is another important aspect in astudent(s life and he/she should not neglect it. The student should regularly visit the universityhealth care center and ta e the advantages of the free amenities your health center offers! freevaccines, condoms, and counseling are among the most common. The safety department should

    be utilized and -scort oneself to his home or dorm if one feels unsafe and unsecured. %nvestigatecrimes that happen on campus. %f you+ve been a victim of a crime, especially robbery, rape,coercion, or assault, please notify the campus security and/or local police.

    udgeting one(s own expenses is yet another tip of a happy and safe college life as this wouldnot only save onself from all inds of financial calamities at an individual(s level but alsoculminates very good and prudent habits which may guide a student throughout his life. "tudentsshould be aware of all inds of financial aid being provided to them by various sources andshould apply for them so as to continue one(s studies till the end and should not discontinue thestudies at any level before the completion of graduation. As one is studying at a college, one is

    bound to eep his/her mind open to all opportunities of employment even at student level whenone can earn while he learns. This can help the student in pursuing his higher studies with easeand satisfaction. "aving is a good habit and one can strengthen it at the student(s life. &e can tryfor scholarship for his/her studies, boo s and other costs can be covered by such scholarships.
