allowed for ensemble courses. Repeats not allowed for other visual and

performing arts courses Maximum of 4 levels Eliminate repeatability for PE and CTE

courses Meet students needs through other

curricular options and lapse of time policies

Priority to basic skills, ESL, CTE, degree and

certificate attainment and transfer Apportionment received only for courses that

support student education plans that are consistent with the priorities

Allow community education students to enroll when space is available

Develop schedules based upon student education plans

Focus on basic skills education Transfer BSI funds to SSI Adult education moving to community colleges

and focused on basic skills Strengthen Chancellor’s Office and fund professional

development and technology initiatives centrally Student Success Plan, adoption of common assessment

instruments and College scorecards required for funding Alignment with K-12 K-20 data base Pathways required for all conceivable goals Defunding of non-SEP courses Development of a strong continuing education program Encourage innovation and flexibility in the delivery of

basic skills instruction

The old man spoke to me in a way that forced my attention. Could it be that his wisdom came from a greater knowing? From spirit? From heart?

“The only monuments worth building are those in the hearts of others,” the words drifting like winter’s breathe.

I heard without listening, and the distraction of youth made me forget. Until in my middle years I visited his resting place to sit and remember, and my heart was filled with his monument. I wept.
