COURSE NAME: City and Guilds Catering

LEVEL: Level 1

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: 5 GCSEs grade 9 - 1

This is an industry standard qualification

towards becoming a professional chef. You will

gain a high standard of cookery skills from

processes, whilst also learning other workplace

essentials like menu design, food safety, costing,

and preparing and cooking a varied selection of

foods.

BEAUTY THERAPY

COURSE NAME: NCFE CACHE in Childcare and

Education

LEVEL: Level 3

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: 5 GCSEs grade 9 - 5

This course will provide you with a firm

foundation for any role working with children

from birth to age 7. There are two coursework

units which cover child growth and

development as well as children’s health and well

-being. This course will be assessed through a

portfolio of evidence that is internally assessed

through a range of methods. You will need an

COURSE NAME: Applied Diploma in

Criminology

LEVEL: Level 3

This course comprises of 4 units. You will learn

about a variety of crimes and how crimes are

recorded. You will consider why people commit

crime and whether criminological theories are

credible and apply those theories to real-life

situations. This will allow you to discover

answers to questions such as “What makes

someone a serial killer?”

DANCE

COURSE NAME: BTEC Dance - Extended

You will gain a practical understanding of

professional performance activities. You will have

the opportunity to develop skills and

COURSE NAME: Engineering Design

LEVEL: Level 3 Technical

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: 2 GCSEs grade 9 - 5 plus

grade 6+ in Maths, Science and Design Technology or

a minimum of a Merit in Engineering

This course provides an overview of scientific

principles used by engineers to identify the most

suitable materials for an engineered

product, mechanical engineering systems and

components. You will learn the process of

engineering design and the role that

manufacturing processes and systems have in the

production of engineered products.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE

COURSE NAME: A Level English Language

LEVEL: Level 3

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: 4 GCSEs grade 9 - 5

plus grade 6+ in English Language or English

Literature

It is the systematic study of your own language;

rather like a cross between a traditional subject

such as geography, where you will have to absorb

a body of knowledge, and a science study, where

you will have to learn technical terms and

investigate language both in the classroom and

for yourself. You will study how language has

developed, has power in society and analyses

spoken as well as written texts. There are even

elements of sociology and psychology thrown in.

COURSE NAME: A Level English Literature

LEVEL: Level 3

Language

This is an opportunity to really delve into a whole

range of texts and engage in discussion about

the themes, characters and ideas. You will read a

wide range of both modern and older literature,

including Shakespearean and modern plays,

poetry and recent novels. You will use your

analytical skills to engage with language and

expression and your historical knowledge to

explore the contexts in which texts are produced.

FILM STUDIES

COURSE NAME: WJEC Eduqua A Level Film

Studies

LEVEL: Level 3

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: 5 GCSEs grade 9 - 5

including English & Media Studies (desirable)

Film Studies will appeal to you if are interested in

watching and analysing films. You will

investigate the film industry from a range of

styles and different time periods and learn more

about the industry and develop film-related

practical skills.

COURSE NAME: Finance - Certificate and

Diploma

LEVEL: Level 3

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: 5 GCSEs grade 9 - 5

You will cover a range of personal finance

topics which include bank accounts, credit cards,

mortgages and debt solutions. You will explore

how the finance industry works and the

regulators. You will be expected to work

independently, in pairs and in groups.

Occasionally you will present your work in class.

You need to have good analysis skills and be able

to pick out key facts from given information.

FRENCH

COURSE NAME: A Level French

You will learn about the language and culture of

the Francophone world, including heritage,

HISTORY

COURSE NAME: BTEC Extended Certificate in

Health and Social Care

LEVEL: Level 3

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: 5 GCSEs grade 9 - 5

Health and Social Care is an exciting sector where no two days at work will ever be the same. You’ll be supporting individuals in a variety of ways to meet their everyday needs. Throughout the course, you will be building essential employability skills that include effective communication, how to work with others, and supporting equality and diversity. This course has two coursework units that are internally assessed and two units that are assessed by external examination.

COURSE NAME: AQA A Level History

LEVEL: Level 3

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: 4 GCSEs grade 9 - 5

including English & Maths plus a 6+ in History

You will acquire a broad range of historical

knowledge and understanding, including a sense

of development over time, and an

COURSE NAME: A Level Mathematics

LEVEL: Level 3

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: 3 GCSEs grade 9 - 5

including English, grade 7+ in Maths plus grade

5+ in Statistics

In this course, you will study Pure Mathematics, Statistics and Mechanics. The content taught builds on work covered as part of the Higher GCSE Mathematics course and incorporates new mathematical topics such as differentiation, integration, parametric equations, hypothesis testing, statistical distributions, forces and moments. Pupils can expect to be entered for AS Level Mathematics at the end of Year 12. They take the A Level Mathematics examination at the end of Year 13.

MEDIA STUDIES

COURSE NAME: AQA A Level Media Studies

This course will engage you in an in-depth study

of media products; language, representation,

industries and audiences. You will develop your

set of design briefs. You will study a range of

products from all media forms.

Performing Arts single is a two year course that

will enable you to develop practical skills and

have an in depth study of performance for stage

and screen in four areas. Investigating

PHOTOGRAPHY

COURSE NAME: Photography

LEVEL: Level 3

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: 5 GCSEs grade 9 - 5

including English, Maths & Art/Photography.

Grade 4+ will be considered through interview,

supported by previous teacher reference

You will develop a wide range of practical

photographic skills using traditional film and

digital cameras. You will learn about processing

and post production techniques that are taught

using a darkroom and Photoshop software.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

COURSE NAME: Physical Education

LEVEL: Level 3

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: 5 GCSEs grade 9 - 5

including English & Maths

You will use a range of skills to cover both

practical and theoretical concepts relating to

participating in sport, health and fitness, the

history of sport and its importance in society. This

course will be assessed through coursework and

final examinations. The examinations make up

70% of the course and the coursework 30%.

COURSE NAME: A Level Product Design

LEVEL: Level 3

You will engage in both practical and theoretical

study. During the course, you will cover design

and technology skills and knowledge

including: technical principles (material

properties and mechanisms) and designing and

making principles (use of hand tools and

machinery).

PSYCHOLOGY

COURSE NAME: A Level Psychology

LEVEL: Level 3

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: 5 GCSEs grade 9 - 5

including English & Maths plus a grade 6+ in

Science

Psychology is the scientific study of the human

mind and behaviour. Compulsory content looks

at research methods and social psychology (why

people conform/obey, how to resist social

influence), and psychopathology (how to

explain and treat depression, OCD and phobias).

There are also specialised units such as eating

d isorder , re lat ionship and forensic

psychology.

Extended Certificate in Applied Science

LEVEL: Level 3

This qualification offers an engaging programme

that combines theory and practical work of the

three sciences, biology, chemistry and physics.

The course is delivered over two years and

combines both external examination and

coursework units.

SOCIOLOGY

COURSE NAME: A Level Sociology

LEVEL: Level 3

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: 5 GCSEs grade 9 - 5

including Maths & Science plus a grade 6+ in

English

During this course you will look at different

aspects of the social world. Topics can include:

Social Media - ‘What impact does the internet

have on social relations?’ Crime and Deviance -

‘Why are some people more likely to commit

crime than others.’ Culture, Socialisation and

Identity - ‘Who and what has influenced my

identity?’ Plus researching society and inequality

within it.

COURSE NAME: BTEC Sport - Diploma

LEVEL: Level 3

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: 4 GCSEs grade 9 - 5

including English & Maths plus a grade 5+ or a

minimum of a merit in GCSE PE or BTEC Sports

studies

You will develop your subject knowledge of the

sporting world, covering every aspect of sport,

health and fitness. You will also use practical

skills, develop confidence through officiating and

coaching younger children, as well as taking part

in a variety of fitness tests and training methods.
