What is a Subaward?

Subawards are sometimes referred to as subcontracts, subgrants, or subagreements


Subawards….a third-party performing a portion of Stanford

research project or other sponsored programs work must be intellectually significant typically use the subrecipient's personnel,

resources and facilities All terms and conditions accepted by Stanford

flows down to sub-recipients Stanford is responsible that the federal funds it

provides subrecipients are spent in accordance with applicable laws and regulations

What Steps to take when proposing a Subaward



Subrecipient must submit a proposal to StanfordStanford PI will incorporate the subrecipient’s

material into his/her proposalSubrecipient’s budget incorporated into the

Stanford budget as a line item per sponsor’s instructions

The Stanford proposal (with the subrecipient component) is endorsed by an Institutional Representative and submitted to the sponsor (OSR)

Subrecipient proposal must include:

(Signed) Subrecipient Commitment FormStatement of Work (SOW)Budget and JustificationAny other documents required by SU or by

SponsorDocuments uploaded into PDRF

Subaward - Post Award Management

When the award is accepted, the Institutional Representative sends the Stanford Notice of Award (NOA) to the PI and award manager (RFA).
