Plan of temporary one way system in central Newark STW NEWARK PROJECT We’ve saved around tonnes of CO2 emissions 400 from the tunnelling completed so far, as opposed to using traditional open cut methods. We’re spending £60million to protect 400 homes and businesses from sewer flooding and providing Newark with a reliable water supply. What we’re doing? We’ll be constructing three new shafts along Castle Gate and North Gate. We’ll make connections in these shafts between the existing sewers which are at a high level and the new deep tunnel that we’re constructing. We’ll also be closing off an existing overflow into the River Trent at the end of Queens Road. This work forms part of our wider project across Newark, for more information about how our other work in the area might affect you please visit our website stw.works/newark or call Freephone 0300 303 9647. Why are we doing this? As part of ongoing £60m project in Newark we’re constructing a new tunnel beneath the town to prevent flooding of 400 properties. We need to connect the existing sewers to this new tunnel. This will require work in the road on Castle Gate and North Gate. Providing a one way system will avoid the need to close Castle Gate during our construction works. When will we do this? A temporary one way system will be implemented on Castle Gate from Mid Feb to Mid June 2018 for a period of 17 weeks. How we’re minimising disruption? By selecting the most appropriate tunnelling method and using a one way system we’ve avoided the need to close Castle Gate for up to 6 months. What we’re doing? A free shuttle bus service will be provided while the one-way system is in place on Castle Gate. The service will circulate the Town Centre in an anti-clockwise direction.Buses will be operated by local bus companies, Mon to Sat every 15 minutes between 6.30am and 7.30pm.

Why are we doing it?We’re implementing this free service during the 17-week period to provide the following benefits:

• Minimise any disruption to existing bus services

• A free, regular transport around the town centre for anyone in the town

• Encourage existing and potentially new visitors to travel into the town centre
