Rule 1, on page 1 of the book of war, is: "Do not march on Moscow".

Various people have tried it, Napoleon and Hitler, and it is no good. That

is the first rule. I do not know whether your Lordships will know Rule 2 of

war. It is: "Do not go fighting with your land armies in China". It is a vast

country, with no clearly defined objectives.

Welcome to Sturm Uber der Nationen 2015, an Early War Flames of War event.

This will be a five game event over the weekend of March 7th and 8th. The

format will be swiss; all possible efforts will be taken to avoid blue on blue for

the first two games. Everyone will play the same missions and the player with

the highest score at the end of the weekend will be crowned Best General.

Tournament System

The event will use the rules from the 3rd Edition of Flames of War using the

Know Your Enemy errata. You will need a 1550 point army from any Early War

book or Official V3 PDF. You will be scored using the Flames of War 7-0 system

with some slight tweaks to allow us to score your performance in each game.

The Tables

We will provide the majority of the scenery and all the tables, the scenery will

be pre-set for the table and we will endeavour to make sure you only play on

each table once. We will provide rulings for the terrain on each table if you are

unable to agree with your opponent, we suggest checking the front of the V3

rulebook as most terrain types are detailed. We welcome players who wish to

bring their own terrain, though we do ask that you bring a themed table and

not just random terrain.

Missing Opponent

If your opponent does not turn up on time they will be given a 30 minute grace

period, after that (without serious mitigation) you will be awarded a maximum

win.

Referees

There will be two umpires at this event, we would ask that if you have a

disagreement you come to a conclusion between you, if an umpire is called to

adjudicate, their decision, right or wrong is final. The player umpires are Mick

Rood and Tommy Brown.

Game Duration

Each game lasts two and a half hours; we will give out frequent timings and

when final time is called you will have a chance to even up turns.

Playing 6 Turns

We expect everyone to play at least 6 turns and if you are unable to do so your

score in defensive battle missions may be adjusted. In a defender auto win

mission, if 6 turns have not been played, the maximum score the defender can

achieve is a 4-3. If the attacker is contesting an objective and would have won

on their next turn yet the game timed out with less than 6 turns played, the

attacker will score a 4-3 victory.

Gaming Etiquette

We would like all players to provide a copy of their army list to their opponents

before play and to clearly indicate which platoons are in reserve and which

platoons have been designated for the ambush. Teams from platoons should

be clearly marked to avoid your opponents confusion when intermingled, we

also ask that for your opponents benefit you use counters to indicate such

states as pinned, bailed out, bogged, dug in and gone to ground.

Food

Included in the ticket price is a meal at lunchtime on both days. Limitless Tea

and Coffee will be provided as part of your ticket price.

Allowed lists

You will need a 1550 point army from any Early War supplement or official V3

Early War PDF. You will be scored using the Flames of War 7-0 system with

some slight tweaks to allow us to score your performance in each game. Lists

must be submitted by Friday 21st February. There will be some limits in

regards to Soviet equipment, no KV tanks can be taken and you can only take

one T34/57 per 3 T34’s.

Missions

The missions to be played over this weekend will be randomly drawn each

round from any of the official V3 missions.

Soft Scores

There will be a prize for most sporting player and best painted armies, the soft

scores will have no impact on the overall winner. We do ask that all armies be

painted and whilst we will not award points for painted armies we will deduct

them for unpainted figures. In real terms, you will lose 2 competition points

for each unit that includes unpainted figures.

Best Painted and Most Sporting

Throughout Saturday we will be observing your armies and the umpires will

then judge the best armies and ask the players to vote on these over Sunday

dinner time. Your score sheet will include a section for voting on the Best

Painted Allied army and Best Painted Axis army. Make sure that these are

filled in. There will also be a section for putting down your favourite opponent,

we would recommend that you wait till the last game before filling this in,

please make sure this is completed as the player with the most votes will be

awarded the covetous Most Sporting Player prize.

Trophies

The player with the highest overall score will be crowned as the Scourge of

Nations. There will also be a prize for second and third place. We will also

award trophies to Best Painted Allied, Best Painted Axis and Most Sporting.
