STUFF THE BUS 2014 Your business is invited to participate in United Way of San Luis Obispo County’s Stuff the Bus! Stuff the Bus is an annual donation drive for new school supplies, which are distributed throughout San Luis Obispo County schools. Our 6th annual event will take place Monday, August 11th – Friday, August 15th at Target, Walgreens, and Walmart locations in San Luis Obispo County. During the afternoon hours, United Way volunteers stand outside the stores and hand out shopping lists, then collect the school supplies and store them in a school bus.

It’s easy for your workplace to get involved! Just following these five simple steps:

1. SAVE THE DATE Workplaces are encouraged to have their collection sites open between July 30-August 13, 2014. Send an email to Leslie McKinley, Resource Development Director, at [email protected] and let her know the dates you have chosen.

2. BUILD YOUR TEAM Is this a staff teambuilding event, or can clients, customers and the public donate too? Decide what’s best for your company culture.

3. SET UP Find a visible location to collect the school supplies. Use a basket, plastic tote, reusable bag, or get creative with a cardboard box. Don’t forget to post supply lists nearby, and plan ahead for additional storage in case your box overflows.

“Unmask your inner superhero” To enter our collection site contest, post a photo of your collection box to facebook.com/unitedwayslo or tweet to @uwsloc by 3 pm on Monday, August 11.

4. SPREAD THE WORD Send emails, hang posters or make announcements at staff meetings to let everyone know when and where to bring the donations. On the following pages you will find sample posters and supply lists.

5. STUFF THE BUS Participating collection sites are encouraged to deliver their donations to Target in San Luis Obispo on Wednesday, August 13th between 4:00 – 7:00 PM. To ensure proper delivery to schools, all donations must be delivered to United Way of San Luis Obispo County or a participating Target, Walgreens or Walmart store by 7:00 PM on Friday, August 15th.

Stuff the Bus is an annual donation drive for new school supplies which are then distributed throughout San Luis Obispo County, in cooperation with the County Office of Education. Gather your family, friends or coworkers together and help us provide for local schools, teachers and students. We are looking for 2-6 volunteers per shift so come on out! You can sign up to volunteer and either hand out shopping lists to store customers and collect donations at the door, or help organize all of the donations on the bus. This is a great community service opportunity for teens and children too.
