History of our university
1830: August 2nd grand duchy Oldenburg establishes a normal school in Vechta
1995: January 1st, first time that a university is established in Vechta, named»Hochschule Vechta«
2003: University of Vechta is one of the first universities in Lower Saxony which adapts study programmes to the “Bachelor and Master“ structures
2005: new international accredited bachelor study programmes “Gerontology“ and “Social Work“
2010: by the adoption of the Lower Saxony parliament, Hochschule Vechta is renamed into »Universität Vechta«

Facts on the University of Vechta
the most important educational establishment in the Oldenburg Münsterland area around 3,600 students and ten different study programmes,
a young campus university in Lower Saxony.
Since becoming independent in 1995, we have developed dynamically, incorporating
the Catholic University of Applied Sciences in 2005 and being renamed University of Vechta in 2010.
