Our range of language courses typically offer 15 hours of tuition a week, with the exception of 20 hours on our homestay programme in Oxford.

Our timetable is usually organised on a ‘zig-zag’ basis. This means that students will have lessons in the morning and their social programme in the afternoon and evening. This is then reversed on a weekly basis. Consequently, students attend both morning and afternoon lessons on alternate weeks*. This allows the students to get the most of their time with us, with an emphasis put on both education and fun.

All students take an online test before arrival to assess their language knowledge and how well they are able to understand and speak English. This enables us to place them in a class they will be happiest and most successful in. In the case that a student is unable to take an online test prior to arrival, a placement

test will be administered at the centre. The maximum class size is 15.

Students’ progress is monitored throughout the course in a range of informal assessments conducted by teachers during the learning process, as well as at the end of the course in the form of a departure test.

Our philosophy is to educate, encourage and help our students enjoy our course towns. It is often a case of helping students to ‘come out of their shell’, increasing their confidence in using English and providing an opportunity to use it in meaningful situations, both in the classroom and outside while socialising with students from many different countries.

ORIENTATION

Students take part in a range of activities that provide the opportunity to learn more about their local surroundings. Arriving in a new place may sometimes be confusing which is why orientation helps our students get settled quickly and feel at home in their course town.

AFTERNOON & EVENING ACTIVITIES

Various options are offered depending on the course and location. Sports, creative activities and cultural understanding are all part of what we offer and we greatly encourage our students to take an active part, so that they can make the most of their time with us. The more they get involved, the more enjoyment they will get out of it. A perfect way to try something new.

HALF DAY EXCURSIONS

During their stay at our centres, students will have a wealth of opportunities to take advantage of British Culture and heritage. This includes taking half day trips to visit famous landmarks and sites.

FULL DAY EXCURSIONS

Students will travel a little further afield to explore cities, visit museums and galleries, or spend time at fun attractions and theme parks. These trips are a great way for students to get an in-depth look at the UK, both its history and modern life. The students can often choose their preference for locations.

Straddling the River Avon in the southwest of England is Bristol, one of the UK’s main creative hubs. You will find art and culture all over the city, which creates a vibrant and exciting atmosphere every day. Bristol is famous for its film industry (Wallace and Gromit), its engineering industry (Clifton Suspension Bridge) and for its street art (Banksy); there is something for everybody.

While our students will have a chance to explore Bristol’s eclectic city centre, the location of our campus is also a real bonus. Situated on the outskirts of Bristol, the campus allows easy access for some great excursions. Conveniently located for a visit to Stonehenge, the Roman city of Bath or even to the sea side.

At the University of the West of England’s Frenchay Campus, students can enjoy state-of-the-art sports facilities (where they can play tennis, football or dance) or simply relax in the comfortable communal areas. Students will be accommodated on the campus in modern single en-suite rooms. Bristol City centre and the surrounding areas can be reached within 20 minutes by regular shuttles.

People come from all over the world to soak up the atmosphere in Brighton: it’s colourful, fun and forward thinking. It’s not a surprise that it’s been voted the ‘happiest place to live in the UK’ year after year. Managing to keep its traditional seaside charm, people love relaxing on the beach, talking a stroll along the old Victorian Pier or stopping for some fish and chips.

But while celebrating British traditions, Brighton is also at the forefront of British culture. It’s easy to see why Brighton is often called ‘Britain’s hippest city’ when you take a stroll around the little boutiques and twisting alleyways of the bohemian quarter. This is a city with the best of old and new!

Students will study and reside at Moulsecoomb Campus, which is the largest of the five University of Brighton campuses. Brighton city centre is only two miles away and easily accessed by regular bus services. Halls of residence offer flats consisting of 6 – 8 rooms with 2 toilets and 2 showers. There is a sports hall with basketball and badminton courts on campus.

Hastings is another town that draws people from all around the world to visit. Famous for a battle that took place here over nearly a thousand years ago, people come from all over to immerse themselves in the history of the town. Boasting a ruined castle, the idyllic ‘old town’ and two Victorian cliff railways, Hastings has a lot of interesting history to see.

Hastings benefits from being smaller than a lot of other our other course towns. With a population under 100,000 there is more of a homely feel. Students will quickly get acquainted with the town and will know all the best spots for ice cream and relaxing in the sun. Hastings is also in a great location for excursions to other towns along the historic coast, or into Brighton or London.

It was a great experience at Chelsea both from a sports and educational point of view. I enjoyed speaking English, I experience local traditions and customs, and above all improved my football technique thanks to Chelsea’s excellent and friendly coaches.
