"My name is Kan, I am originally from Bangkok, Thailand and I studied the

dual MPA-MBA degree at James Cook University Brisbane. After I graduated

in 2011, I started working as an intern at the Stamford Plaza Brisbane and upon successfully completing my internship I was offered a full-time position. Five years later, I am now the Senior Hotel

Accountant and Assistant Financial Controller at the Stamford

Before I came to Australia I never imagined that I would be working as a

Senior Hotel Accountant and Assistant Financial Controller in a fi ve star hotel like the Stamford Plaza Brisbane. My degree from JCU Brisbane provided me with the

opportunity to stay and build a successful career in Australia.

My life in Thailand was very differentto Brisbane. Bangkok is very busy and there is always work to be done, I feel my life in Brisbane is very peaceful in

comparison. What I enjoy most about Australia is that it’s quite safe and secure. In addition to this, I really like being able to relax and chill out once I fi nish work each day. In my spare time I like to go

riding in the mountains on my Harley with friends or watch movies.

If you have the opportunity to study at James Cook University in Brisbane I have this advice for you; fi rstly, enjoy your fi rst two weeks, spend time exploring Brisbane

and talking to new people. Secondly, ask questions, your lecturers are very knowledgeable and more than happy

to help. Let someone know if you don’t understand, I believe knowledge and akeen attitude is valuable. Finally, apply

yourself to the process, there are people who want to help you, but you need to

work hard to achieve success.

I feel lucky to be able to walk into the Stamford Plaza every day, I enjoy myjob and I’m very of proud of this hotel.

For me, James Cook UniversityBrisbane was the right choice."

Important InformationThe Tuition Protection Service (TPS) is a placement and refund service for international students studying on a student visa which also operates under the ESOS Act. The TPS replaces the Tuition Assurance Scheme and the ESOS Assurance Fund. On the rare occasions that a provider is unable to deliver a course an international student has paid for and does not meet its legal obligations to make alternative course replacements or provide a refund, the TPS will assist students to fi nd an alternative place or, if this is not possible, provide a refund of any unspent tuition fees. For further information see:www.tps.gov.au

Deferral, Temporary Suspension or Cancellation of EnrolmentThe ESOS National Code and student visa conditions contain restrictions on when students, or JCU, can defer, suspend or cancel a student enrolment. Deferring commencement of study, or taking a leave of absence once studies have commenced can only take place when there are compassionate or compelling reasons for doing so. A “compassionate or compelling reason” is something which is beyond the student’s control and which has, or will have, an impact on academic progress or wellbeing. The University may suspend a student temporarily, enforcing a break from study, in certain circumstances. For more information on deferral, suspension and cancellation of study see:

www.internationaleducation.gov.au
