WHAT IS STUDY ABROAD?

Study abroad is an opportunity to broaden ones education in a different country.

Our study abroad opportunity was held in Staffordshire, England at Keele University.

STUDY ABROAD PROCESS: If you are

interested/required to study abroad you will have to partake in the following: Speak to a counselor Look up study abroad

opportunities on your university’s website to see if it has relevant classes for your major

Apply to the study abroad program of your choice

HAVE FUN!

LIBERAL STUDIES MAJORS: Our major is Liberal Studies. This means that we

are studying to become primary school teachers.

The study abroad program that we attended was specifically for our majors. Krista and I took Liberal Studies 300 as our class which gave us the opportunity to visit different schools in the city of Staffordshire.

CLOUGH HALL TECHNOLOGY SCHOOL:

ENGLISH SCHOOL SYSTEM: Age 4-5: “Reception” (Kindergarten) Year 1- Year 6: “Primary School” (Elementary

School) Year 7- Year 11: “Secondary School”

(Middle/High School) At age 16, you are required to take the General

Certificate of Secondary Education Exam. (GCSE)

The GCSE will test in the following subjects: math, science, and English.

After you pass the exam, you have four choices. Sixth form, performing arts college, apprenticeship, inactive

military (not active until age 18)

Oftsted/National Curriculum

CULTURE SHOCK:

Although England may seem very similar to the United States, it is very different.

The accents there are very proper and differ depending on the part of England that you live in.

However, they are very difficult to understand. Especially if you’re an English language learner.

Compared to a very flavorful palate that San Diegans are used to, England’s food is very bland and hard to get used to.
