We need your help!!! We have a
large population of students
bringing electronic devices to
school. They are using the
devices during recess times. I
would like to encourage our
students not to bring electronic
devices to school because we are
not responsible for things that
are broken or misplaced. If your
child brings an electronic device
to school, please help us
emphasize that any games,
websites or music has to be
school appropriate. This means
no shooting, violence, horror,
gore, blood or swearing. The
electronic devices should not be
out in the building unless the
teacher says it is okay. If we see
that the student is using the
device inappropriately, the
device will be taken from the
student. It will be in the office for
the parent to pick up. Thank you
for your understanding and
support, we really appreciate all
that you do for us.

Thank you to all
the parents and
grandparents and
many care takers
of our Woodview
students for com-
ing out to support
the Woodview
book fair. We had
a wonderful
successful book fair. We were able to receive 50%
on every purchase. Thank you to all who rounded up
on their purchase to donate even more to the library.
And a special thank you to those who donated their
time to volunteer, we couldn’t run the book fair with-
out you.

Woodview
students had a special visi-tor on March 14, and 15, artist Tom Woodruff, a
Northport resident, who grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
He studied art and natu-
ral sciences at Grand Valley College to be closer to Lake Michigan, combining his
artistic flare with his love for nature. He began teaching 30 years ago after publi-cation of the book he illustrated by au-
thor John Mitchell, “Michigan: An Illus-trated History for Children.”
Woodruff is from a family of writers, so words and books have been as important to him as art. Libraries are one of his fa-
vorite teaching environments because he can easily reference the importance of
literature and explain how illustrations and words work together to form a tale. “Every line is part of a picture, just like every word is part of a story,” he said. He
describes his art presentations as “interactive drawing projects” or “illustration workshops.” “I teach the
kids to observe, to notice things, to go on an adventure, and to include themselves in it in some way,” said Woodruff. Stu-
dents begin their drawings on the front side of a folded sheet of drawing paper so they can open the “book” and add to it later. Woodruff said he enjoys working with teachers, who “…are among the
most noble, giving, and
sharing of pro-fessions. And it’s fun work-ing with the children. I love seeing them make connec-tions between
art and life.”
This is a draw-
ing of the
"Cora A," a
ship that once
sailed the
Great Lakes. I
sketched first
in pen & ink,
then added
watercolor. I
learned to sail at an early age,
built models, and drew ships
of all kinds. I was most fasci-
nated with the history of
schooners and other ships of
the Great Lakes.
This piece
is called,
"Tip-Toe

It was in-
spired by
