Pieter B. Coeymans Students Get Ready to Launch School Newspaper
4th grade editors, writers, interviewers and artists had been working together as a team all winter in a race toward a deadline. Their goal was to launch the first edition of Pieter B.’s Keeping Up With The Bees school newspaper by March 26. As the team continued to make final edits on the last days of school, student printers and deliverers were standing by. This group of dedicated journalists were all waiting for word that the first edition was ready for release.
With the school’s closing on March 13 due to the Covid-19 Coronavirus outbreak, production has been halted. With a mostly edited newspaper, we chose to publish the newspaper on the school’s website.
Spring Has Sprung!
On March 19, 2020 we celebrated the first day of Spring! The first day of spring, the vernal equinox, has 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of darkness. The term vernal is Latin for “spring” and equinox is Latin for “equal night“. In spring, the Earth's axis is tilted toward the sun, increasing the number of daylight hours and bringing warmer weather!

Music with Adam
Hi my name is Adam Gardner and I am going to share one of my favorite hobbies with you. I generally like music and I play music on an instrument called the ukulele.
My favorite song to play is “Run Around” by Blues Traveler. If you don't like it, which I'm sure most of you won’t, it's okay.
This month I’m going to teach you how to play it. I am not saying that you have to go to a music store and buy a ukulele. This is optional. But I would like you to follow along if you are interested and you actually want to play ukulele.
Here’s how: Go to Youtube and check out both of these videos:
“Jellynote how to play 6 easy ukulele chords'.
To tune your ukulele, check out:
“Mykola mr hard guitar best online ukulele tuner”.
To tune a Ukulele you turn the knobs at the top of the ukulele. Be careful because they are very sensitive. You want the sound of the strings to match the sound of the strings on the video by Mykola Mrhard Guitar Best Online Tuner. All it takes is a little time and effort.

Our Local Community HeroesBy.Franceska Knapek
Interview with Jamar Williams, Ravena Fire Department
Q: How much training do you need to have to be a firefighter?
A: It takes a lot of training. We have to climb walls, go out windows, rescue people, go to car accidents and escape burning buildings.
Q: How long have you been a firefighter?
A: 11 years. I was a firefighter in Hudson before last year. I’ve been in Ravena for a year.
Q:What would happen if there was a huge fire so big that you couldn’t put it out?
A: We call in more firefighters. If we need more trucks and more help, then we fight more. Once we used all 8 of our Coeymans trucks. There were 40-50 people on one fire about a month ago on Pulver Ave. right in the village.
Q: What is your favorite part of being a firefighter?
A: Helping in the community and doing things for other people. I’m a volunteer. That means I give my time to help.
Q: What is the most recent call you had?
A: Today we had a gas leak call.
Q: What was the biggest fire you’ve ever fought?
A: At a warehouse in the city of Hudson. There were over 50 firefighters there.
