BLENDED LEARNING RESEARCHSTUDENTS AS COLLABORATORS IN CREATING MEANINGFUL LEARNING EXPERIENCES IN TECHNOLOGY-ENHANCED CLASSROOMSIn this paper, the author highlights the value student voice can contribute to pedagogical transformation. She underscores the value of a “design for partnership” approach that can be incorporated as an underlying pedagogical approach to facilitate the creation of meaningful learning experiences in a technology-enhanced teaching and learning environment.

COMPARISON OF STUDENT LEARNING GAINS IN HIGH- AND LOW-TECH ACTIVE-LEARNING ENVIRONMENTSThis study investigates the specific design feature(s) of the SCALE-UP classroom most conducive to teaching and learning. Using pilot survey data from instructors and students to prioritize the most salient SCALE-UP classroom features, the author created a low-tech “mock-up” version of this classroom and tested the impact of these features on student learning, attitudes, and satisfaction using a quasi-experimental setup.

ACTIVE TEACHING LAB - FALL 2017 SCHEDULEActive learning refers to purposeful learning through engagement with instructors, other students and course content that promotes problem-solving, application and understanding. The Active Teaching Lab provides a safe space to hear UW-Madison instructors’ experiences using Canvas teaching tools and techniques to motivate, engage, and more effectively teach the diverse range of students we encounter. Each session is comprised of four parts:• Listening: Hear colleagues share how they used a tool or technique in their teaching• Experimenting: Gain hands-on experience with the tool• Discussing: Unpack the pedagogy and develop ideas on applying it to your course• Expanding: Discover additional options to accomplish similar results

QUOTES FROM CAMPUS
Andrea Porter School of Pharmacy
“Utilizing a blended learning format can transform a classroom. Instead of solely listening to information being delivered, students come prepared to class where they are able to discuss the material with their classmates and apply that material to real-life situations. The blended delivery method prepares students for what they’ll experience during their experiential rotations as well as after graduation when they are a pharmacist providing patient care.”
Stephen Young College of Letters & Science
“Blended Learning means providing students with the tools they need to work through difficult questions together and draw their own conclusions. It is about creating more vibrant learning environments both in the classroom and beyond.”

TOP HAT INTEGRATION INTO CANVASTop Hat users can now enjoy integration within Canvas. This integration means faculty and instructors using Canvas and Top Hat no longer need to manually import grade information – it will be automatic. This feature wasn’t possible before due to a technical limitation with Top Hat that allows for integration into only one campus learning management systems (LMS) without incurring additional expenses for students. Initially, this integration was enabled for D2L. However, with the campus transition to Canvas as the single, centrally-supported LMS, it is projected that Canvas courses will outnumber D2L courses by this year. Switching the Top Hat integration from D2L to Canvas will ensure ease-of-use for the majority of instructors on campus.
