STAND OUTTHATWORDS

Dear Students,

“Life is not for the weak hearted”.I heard this a while back from a relatively young person. For him to have come to such a harsh conclusion so early on in life bewildered me.But then, when I heard his childhood story, I understood.Imagine, at the very young age of five, his father took him on an expedition to Siberia for his PHD research. There, the father went to rent a trailer and was told that if he were to drive the trailer he needed to undergo a special training.Every day, father and son went to their training at 5 am in the morning.Every day, the little boy watched his father hose off the ice from the trailer. However, given the size of the trailer and the freezing climate in Siberia, by the time the father reached the end of the trailer, the front part would start freezing again. At that point, the trainer would advise them to go home for the day and come back the next morning at 5 am again. After 7 days of this, the trainer gave the father the key to the trailer and announced him ready. The father was shocked. What training was that? He didn’t learn how to drive the trailer, he didn’t even manage to defrost the trailer! The trainer’s reply came calmly :”The trailer needs no defrosting, it functions regardless of the freezing temperature of Siberia. It is made to withstand the harshest of conditions. I needed to know, and you needed to know, what you were made of. You are ready now.”Life is indeed not for the weak hearted, and the earlier we understand that, the better we are prepared to take on life. And one never knows what one is made of, until..one is tried. And we all get tried.

Salma Ali

When did you start writing stories?I started writing stories 5 years ago when I was 18 years old. I’ve discovered my talent since I was at school, when I was studying composition and had to think each time for a different story and an idea. So, my teachers liked my way of thinking and encouraged me to start writing my own pieces. But, I didn’t really thought to take it seriously as a professional talent except when I went to college.

Who discovered your talent? How did it evolve?I tried to write my first story when I was at school and I wrote some short stories at the beginning, actually I like reading old stories and I always hoped that I can write as amazing as them one day. So, I tried a lot to write some stories, I failed to write the way I want at the beginning but thanks God my family supported me a lot to make me become a professional writer as much as I can. So, my teachers first discovered my talent.

When was your first writing experience? It was a writing competition at GUST, in my first semester at university so I tried to inspire my teachers and prove that I can do something really good. It was such a great experience that I learnt many things from especially my faults and how to improve my writing skills. It taught me how ad what to write in addition to expressing my deepest feeling through writing and trying to reach all readers feelings.

How many stories have you written?I’ve written more than 10 long stories and some other short stories like thoughts. I’m trying to write many different types of materials to learn more and more. I publish my pieces on Facebook to know my friends’ opinions about my writings so, if they liked them I write more and more to practice my talent. By doing so I’m improving my talent to reach the professional level I want.

Passion for Writing stories

Salma Ali

Who and what inspired you as a story writer?I was first inspired by Naguib Mahfouz because of his way of writing. It’s easy and touches you in a way that everyone can understand and feel it. So, I wanted to express my feelings through the words I write, and say what I can’t say but through my words. And that’s what made me insist on improving my writing skills more to impress the readers.

Where do you see Kuwait in this field? There are many great story writers in Kuwait that make this field a developing one, especially in dramatic stories. This field is improving in Kuwait with the talent of the new generations. Some of the writers I like are Heba Hamada and Laila Al-Othman. Their stories touch our reality and give the exact image about our society and community, and that’s what I like the most.

What was the biggest challenge you faced as a writer? There are many professional writers in our community so it’s not easy to be unique among them. Being unique needs hard work and effort to achieve your goals. But, I believe that working hard along with talent helps the person to reach what they want. That’s what I’m trying to do; I’m improving my skills and talent to fit in this field and I hope I can be as professional as I want one day.

What are you doing nowadays? This is my last semester at GUST. When I graduate I’m thinking of publishing my first book. Also, I will apply for Journalism maters to strengthen my talent and will be taking some story writing courses in the coming months. I’m also thinking of contacting some bloggers and international magazines to see my work because that’s a new challenge to know other people’s opinions.

Where do you plan to reach with your talent? To be as professional as I can and make my feelings and words reach the world. To make the Arabian region at the top of story writing through my work, and I hope I can reach that dream one day. I hope that I can touch reader’s feelings by my words and send the right message. There’s nothing really more effective than an honest and true feeling expressed by words.

Today when you look back is there anything you want to change? No I’m actually satisfied with everything because I believe that everything happens for a reason. So, I won’t change anything at all. And I’m sure that everything that happened in the past is the reason for what I am today. So, I’m blessed and satisfied with every single moment in my life

Who inspired you and how?As I said, I was first inspired by Naguib Mahfouz. I love his stories and easy language. I’ve read all his stories and got inspired by them. My favorite stories for him are Between the two castles “Bein Al-Asrein”, The thief and the dogs, the way and Day and night talk.

What would you like to say to STUDENTALK readers?Keep dreaming no matter what the circumstances are, one day you’ll achieve your dream. Be optimistic as much as you can and keep smiling whilst being optimistic because one day you will remember that. Always remember that the harder it gets, the more success you gain. Never give up when you face struggles because they are strengthening your personality to face your future.

Name: Sara Iskandarani Age: 19Talent: Writing When did you start?I started writing when I was at the age of fourteen. It all started when I began reading stories online on FanFiction.net. The authors there really encouraged me to get on putting my thoughts on paper.

Who gave you support? My father, he honestly supported me in every way possible even going as far as printing my personal magazine.

How did your talent evolve?I read as many stories and books as possible. Reading has broadened my knowledge and understanding of the world. It also helped me develop a more complex vocabulary- one that keeps growing. Not to mention that, practice makes perfect so writing more helped me too.

Were there any obstacles? The basic obstacle that stood before me was the wall of language. Because my native language is not English, I had some trouble at first when I started writing.

Who is your muse?I don’t have a specific muse. I just get inspired by the songs I listen to. Each song has a meaning and so with every new song comes a new thought or story.

Today when you look back is there anything you want to change? Many things happened…I just wish I could go back to writing as much as I used to back when I was in high school.

Any last words to the readers? My favorite quote: ‘Read…Learn…Survive…Prosper.’You know, you only live once so do the thing you want the most! Life is too short to live with regrets and most of all, never judge a book by its cover. Oh and don’t ever think you’re better than anyone because flash news! You’re made of mud, pal. Peace! : 3

After a year of hard work by the members of the Engineering Club, the first Clubs Party at the Australian College of Kuwait was full of excitement. This celebration was enjoyable for all, including the members, students, and people who helped the engineering club present its ideas and activities. The ACK Clubs is the best in performance this year, and was able to collect the highest points in its first year of running. However, that wasn’t enough so the photography club won as the best club based on the ACK points system. The purpose of this event was to gather the members and encourage them. Also, it was important to discuss what the club provided to the ACK society & engineering students everywhere, and how to improve the club’s ability to achieve the aim of providing tools for engineering students. SPARC, the management, gave ACK students the opportunity and support to help the students to build the EC agine. It was interesting to create an event which captured the journey of the engineering club, in order to attract students to gain benefits from this club. Also, new visions and activities were suggested in order to be applied to useful projects and avoid mistakes in the future. Through assistance and the simplifying of the difficulties faced by the engineering students by other students at the university, we will soon be able to provide the necessary tools for the engineers.

Directors of the movie are Jennifer Aniston, Alicia Keys, Demi Moore, Patty Jenkins and Penelope Spheeris.Jennifer Aniston designed an exclusive T-shirt, with an illustration relating to the movie and details of the Warriors in Pink symbols on the back. In addition to the clothing line, the regionally-relevant Warriors in Pink henna art initiative, which has already proved popular in Lebanon and the UAE last year, Ford Middle East commissioned a video, which is available on the company’s Facebook and YouTube sites, to show ladies how to become a ‘Warrior in Pink’ and mark their support of breast cancer awareness using henna.

%QHave you always had a high GPA?

Al-Kontesa: Yes.

Shaza: I always work hard and try to maintain a high GPA.

QHow do your peers look at you because of your GPA?

Al-Kontesa: Their point of view is one that doesn’t change according to my GPA.

Shaza: They always come to ask for my help because they know that I care about my studies and getting high grades, or if they need extra explanation especially that they know I’m bilingual.

QDo you feel like you are part of your peers or alienated from them?

Al-Kontesa: No at all. Shaza: I feel like I’m part of my peers because I try to learn from each one because I may be good at some points but weak at other points. For example, I’m not really good at presentations so I ask for help. QHow does it affect your social life?

Al-Kontesa: It doesn’t affect my social life at all.

Shaza: It makes my parents proud and most importantly it motivates me to work harder and gives me more confidence.

QHow does your GPA affect your relationship with the teachers?

Al-Kontesa: They care about me and my future more by advising me how to study and what to do after graduation.

Shaza: Teachers usually like students who work hard to get high grades, so I have good relationship with my teachers.

Name: Shaza Beidas

Age: 23

Major: Finance

University: GUST%QWhat drives you to get such high grades?

Al-Kontesa: First: to get the internal scholarship from GUST which require high GPA Second: to get a good job after graduation

Shaza: My ambition and family support also the pride of being on the top students list.

QWhat does it take for you to get such a high GPA?

Al-Kontesa: JUST attend all classes not swipe and escape as some students do. And to focus on what my lecturer says, it’s as simple as that.

Shaza: I concentrate in class and I do everything on time so I don’t leave myself till the last moment to do my work and of course I study hard. We all know that these are the keys of success

QAre you involved in any extra curricular activities?

Al-Kontesa: In the past I was a member of one of the university unions, the Student Association, participating in sport activities by playing tennis, and participating in drawing (sometimes when I am free I go to draw but I haven’t participated in any exhibitions)

Shaza: I try my best to attend all the activities.

QAre you involved in any charitable organization or activities?

Al-Kontesa: Unfortunately not.

Shaza: No.

QDo you believe that students with high GPAs will have a better future than those who score average GPAs?

Al-Kontesa: No. Nowadays people are rejected because they don’t have Wasta. They are not being hired according to their qualifications.

Shaza: It depends on the student. If the student only memorized for the exam to get high grades then it doesn’t mean that he/she will be successful, however if he/she understood the material then was able to analyze it and use it in the future then this will definitely help to become more successful. On the other hand, companies prefer to hire graduates with the highest GPA.

What is PMI?

The Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) is an indicator produced by Markit Group and the Institute for Supply Management of financial activity reflecting purchasing managers’ acquisition of goods and services. Through asking executives about sales and employment outlook, the survey strives to provide useful information about the business climate that can lead to developments in employment, output and consumption. The PMI is a composite index of five “sub-indicators”, which are extracted through surveys to more than 400 purchasing managers from around the country, chosen for their geographic and industry diversification benefits. The five sub-indexes are as follows:•Production level •New orders (from customers) •Supplier deliveries •Inventories •Employment level

PMI is a very important sentiment reading, not only for manufacturing, but also the economy as a whole. Although U.S. manufacturing is not the huge component of total gross domestic product (GDP) that it once was, this industry is still where recessions tend to begin and end. For this reason, the PMI is very closely watched, setting the tone for the upcoming month and other indicator releases.PMI is also considered a leading indicator in the eyes of the Fed, as evidenced by its mention in the FOMC minutes that are publicly released after its closed-door meetings. The magic number for the PMI is 50. A reading of 50 or higher generally indicates that the industry is expanding. If manufacturing is expanding, the general economy should be doing likewise. As such, it is considered a good indicator of future GDP levels.

A day after Lady Gaga invited folks like Paris Hilton and Marc Jacobs to watch her nap in a tinted plastic pod that definitely was a none-too-distant cousin of the egg contraption she hatched from at the Grammys last year, the pop star showed up for her Fame fragrance launch at Macy’s in a relatively unusual horse-drawn carriage. But then she got out of the carriage. Mother Monster outdid herself for her appearance in New York City Friday. Her Alien-meets-monster look included a gold crown covering the upper half of her face and a black latex “jacket” molded into a swooping hunchback shape that was pure sci-fi from the back.In a nod to the Fame ad campaign, her towering black boots were crawling with little gold men meant to look like they were struggling to ascend Mt. Gaga. While she may have tweaked her M.O. since claiming her perfume would include notes of blood and semen, Gaga certainly didn’t go the ordinary vanilla-and-bergamot route or anything in crafting her first signature fragrance.

The rowdy yet dependably brave royal will probably mark the big 2-8 at Camp Bastion, the base where his British Army unit is currently stationed in Afghanistan. Knowing the cheeky redhead, however, we imagine he and his mates will try to carve out time for a makeshift celebration, if possible. Maybe he’ll welcome the lack of crazy-party expectations that surely would have shadowed him were he spending his birthday in London. After all, Prince William’s little brother just spent a weekend in Las Vegas that has been emblazoned in our memories for many royal birthdays to come. Even if we’re just going by the last month, Prince Harry’s had quite a year. So, may he have a happy and—above all—safe 28th birthday!

We already know that Caroline Kennedy is a big fan of Conor Kennedy’s girlfriend Taylor Swift (and her music). And now, Conor’s aunt Rory Kennedy is giving the cute couple her seal of approval.”I love her music,” Rory told us of Conor and Taylor at today’s Creative Arts Emmy Awards in L.A.“I love her,” the Emmy-nominated filmmaker gushed. “She’s terrific. Huge fan.” When asked what she thinks of her 18-year-old nephew dating the 22-year-old singer, she smiled, “Very sweet.” Conor and Taylor do have Rory to thank for their budding romance, after all. “Rory went to a concert of hers with her two little girls, and that’s how that started,” Conor’s grandmother Ethel Kennedy told reporters last month of the Taylor-Kennedy connection.Just last week, Conor’s cousin Caroline sounded off on her favorite Swift song while talking to CBS This Morning. “Romeo,” she laughed, referring to the Grammy-winner’s tune “Love Story.”

STAND OUTWITH YOUR HEALTH

Know the FactsBreast cancer is an uncontrolled growth of breast cells which occurs as a result of mutations or abnormal changes in the genes responsible for regulating the growth of cells. Normally, the cells of our bodies replace themselves in a process of cell growth where new cells take over as old ones die out. Over time though, mutations can turn on certain genes and turn off others in a cell. This changed cell gains the ability to keep dividing without control, producing more like it, and forming a tumor. Sometimes that tumor may become malignant (have the potential to be dangerous), thus spreading beyond the tumor to other parts of the body.

Understanding Breast Cancer

The Pink RibbonThe pink ribbon is a symbol of breast cancer awareness. It may be worn to honor those who have been diagnosed with breast cancer and to raise awareness and reduce the stigma of breast cancer through education on symptoms and treatment. Supporters hope that greater knowledge will lead to earlier detection of breast cancer and to raise money in order to produce a reliable and permanent cure. This pink ribbon is associated with individual generosity, faith in scientific progress, and a ‘can do’ attitude.

Steps for Self-Examination1. Begin by looking at your breasts in the mirror with your shoulders straight and your arms on your hips. Check the size, shape, and color.2. Raise your arms and look for the same changes.3. Now, lie down and use your right hand to feel your left breast and your left hand to feel the right. Use a firm, smooth

Eating disorders such as bulimia, anorexia nervosa, and binge eating, are harmful medical conditions caused by a combination of physical, emotional, and environmental factors. Although eating disorders are serious and require extensive professional care, it is possible to recover. Below is an interview with a courageous Kuwaiti woman who has struggled with an eating disorder but has recently become symptom-free. She wishes to share her story to help other people who may have similar struggles.

How did your eating disorder develop? My eating disorder started at the age of 10. I was going through lots of changes at that age, which I think lead me to finding some way to gain control. Anorexia seemed like the perfect solution for my high achieving and perfectionist self. It took my mind off of a lot of things that were going on at the time. I, of course, did not know what anorexia was, or why I was doing what I was doing. Years later it turned into a full blown, life threatening disease that I could not control anymore.

When did you realize you needed help?I realized I needed help when the fear of food became paralyzing. I could not enjoy the daily activities I used to enjoy. I isolated myself from everyone in order to give my disorder all the attention it didn’t deserve. My weight dropped to a very dangerous low, and I could not stop the obsession with losing more and more weight. What started off as a way to gain control, had turned into having no control at all.

What kind of treatment did you go through?I had been to therapists and nutritionists in Kuwait and realized that I needed a higher-level of care. Unfortunately, though Kuwait did not offer any options for residential treatment programs. Recently, I traveled to Chicago and spent 3 months in a residential treatment center for women. This center provided the warm, caring environment that I needed.

How is your recovery coming along? My recovery is coming along great. I finally feel like I have the control over myself back. I feel happy, and free of the constant negative self-talk, negative body image, and obsession over food and weight. I’ve learned to love myself, and treat myself with kindness. I’ve learned a lot of skills that will keep me recovery-focused and prevent me from relapsing. I’ve also met so many great women who struggle with the same issues I do, and communicate with them

Eating Disorders

regularly. This has been the most important part of my recovery.

What advice can you offer other young men and women who are struggling with an eating disorder? My advice to others who are struggling is to reach out for help. Overcoming an eating disorder is not something you can do alone. I know that it’s scary to let go of it, but it’s worth it. You are worth it. You can live a happy life, free of the pain and isolation of an eating disorder. Set up a support system of people that are positive and ask for support as much as possible. Get involved in recovery-focused activities, and meet other people that are struggling with the same issues. You are not alone.

Flying has always been a dream for mankind. In the 9th century inventor Abbas Ibn Firnas designed a flying machine using a set of wings in an attempt to fly. His dreams turned into reality when he managed to touch the clouds. Lately creators and innovators in Kuwait have been busy designing their own flying machines to repeat such a unique attempt. Their dreams can be achieved during the 3rd Red Bull Flugtag which will take place at the Marina Crescent on Friday October 19 at 1pm. More than 30 teams are putting the final touches on their flying machines. A panel of five judges will rate the flights based on three important criteria: Distance - this is a flying contest after all, creativity of craft – and showmanship. The top three teams will be rewarded with valuable prizes. The 3rd Red Bull Flugtag in Kuwait will be held under the patronage of Major-General Faisal Al Jazzaf, General Director of the Public Authority for Youth and Sport in Kuwait. The event sponsored by Wataniya Telecom, Mini and Braun Cruzer will be hosted by Media Anchor Raya Abi Rached presenter of Arabs Got Talent and Scoop along with TV presenter Abdullah Malallah. Recently, Germany has raised the bar for the Kuwaiti Teams by setting a new world record at the Red Bull Flugtag held in Mainz when one of the teams flew 69 meters. This historic flight smashed the previous Red Bull Flugtag world record of 63 meters, which was held for more than two years.

Get Ready to Fly with the 3rd Red Bull Flugtag!

Raya Abi Rached is a TV presenter and celebrity journalist. She is the co-host of the hit TV talent show Arabs Got Talent and the host of her own TV show Scoop, which provides the latest Hollywood news and interviews with notable actors.

Funny Flying Machines “This will be the third time we participate at the Red Bull Flugtag. This year we are preparing an improved design as we have learned from our previous experiences. We are currently working on enhancing the aerodynamics and reducing the weight of the flying machine in order to defend our title and entertain the spectators.” said Sultan Ghareeb, member of the Dragon Fly, the 2010 Red Bull Flugtag Winning team. All selected teams will fly their planes from a 25 meter long and 6 meters high constructed runway using only human power. Each team, consists of one pilot and 3 assistants, so that he can lead the aircraft while the assistants help to hover as far as possible before landing in the water. While the sky may be the limit on creativity, there are still a few flight regulations. First off, all flying machines must be entirely human-powered (no external energy sources or stored power). Second, no matter what they say, size does matter – all crafts must be less than 8 meters wide and must weigh no more than 180 KGs including the pilot. Safety is paramount; therefore all competitors must wear a life jacket and helmet. Since the first Red Bull Flugtag took place in Vienna, Austria, in 1991, more than 100 Flugtags have been held around the globe, attracting up to 300,000 spectators for a single event. For more information, visit www.redbullmea.com/flugtag

Abdullah Malallah is a TV presenter at Al Rai TV. He is the co-host of Studio Al Abtal program.

Longest flight record is 69.79 m, set May 28, 2012 at the Flugtag in Mainz, Germany by the team “Die Rückkehr der Teichfighter” in front of more than 60,000 people.

Canon announces the achievement of a new lens manufacturing milestone, following the production of the company’s 80-millionth EF lens. This new milestone comes just over nine months after announcing the production of the 70-millionth lens and coincides with the 25th anniversary of the Canon EOS System. Production of Canon’s world-renowned EF lens series first began in March 1987 alongside the introduction of Canon’s first EOS SLR camera system at the company’s Utsunomiya plant. Over the past 25 years the range has continued to pioneer technical advancement in the industry through the introduction of a series of innovative technologies, including the world’s first Ultrasonic Motor-powered lens (USM) and Image Stabilizer (IS) technology, as well as a multi-layered diffractive optical (DO) element, and Sub wavelength Structure Coating (SWC) anti-reflection technology.Designed to offer both photographers and videographer’s exceptional creative flexibility, the EF lens series now comprises over 76 different models. In addition to a range of EF and EF-S lenses designed for DSLRs, the range now includes an expanding selection of 4K-resolution EF Cinema Lenses that provide class-leading professional video performance.

Today Brazilian football fans have written their own chapter in FIFA World Cup™ history by picking Brazuca as the name of the official match ball for the 2014 tournament.Adidas, the World Cup Official Match Ball supplier since 1970, took inspiration from elements of national culture to come up with a shortlist of three possible names for the ball. The three chosen names were Brazuca, Bossa Nova, and Carnavalesca and for the past three weeks Brazilian football fans have been voting for their favourite in their thousands – the first time fans have been directly involved the naming of the FIFA World Cup™ ball. The FIFA World Cup™ Official Match Ball is always a symbol for the tournament with examples like Azteca at Mexico 1986, Fevernova at Japan 2002, and the iconic Tango at Argentina 1978. At the 2014 FIFA World Cup™ the official match ball will be called adidas Brazuca - an informal term used by Brazilians to describe national pride in the Brazilian way of life. As with their approach to football, it is always full of emotion, pride and goodwill to all.

IPhone 5

When Apple envisioned the new iPhone, they landed on a remarkably thin and light design. But it’s nearly impossible to make a device so thin and so light without sacrificing features or performance. iPhone 5 is just 7.6 millimeters thin. To make that happen, Apple engineers had to think small, component by component. They created a nano-SIM card, which is 44 percent smaller than a micro-SIM. They also developed a unique cellular solution for iPhone 5. The conventional approach to building LTE into a world phone uses two chips, one for voice, and one for data. On iPhone 5, both are on a single chip. The intelligent, reversible Lightning connector is 80 percent smaller than the 30-pin connector. The 8MP iSight camera has even more features, like panorama and dynamic low-light mode — yet it’s 20 percent smaller. And the new A6 chip is up to 2x faster than the A5 chip but 22 percent smaller. Even with so much inside, iPhone 5 is 20 percent lighter and 18 percent thinner than iPhone 4S.

Sony’s Xperia P Boasts Brightest Screen in Smartphones

An independent test laboratory based in Germany, has confirmed Sony Mobile Communication’s claim that the Xperia™ P has the brightest screen among smartphones.Tests were conducted under certified laboratory conditions in May 2012, on 12 different smartphones including handsets from Apple, Samsung, Nokia and Blackberry. During the assessment, all environmental influences were minimized and each smartphone’s display was set to maximum while automatic functions were turned off. A spectrometer was then used to evaluate the brightness of each display. The test revealed that Sony’s WhiteMagic technology and Reality Display with Mobile BRAVIA engine delivered a truly exceptional viewing experience. Xperia P’s 4-inch Reality Display with Mobile BRAVIA Engine has a fourth white sub pixel. This makes it possible to significantly brighten the display to guarantee a clear and sharp picture, even in dazzling sunshine, while minimizing battery consumption.

Andy Murray is the current British No. 1 and is ranked No. 3 in the world. Andy has won 22 career ATP titles, and is the reigning Olympic singles champion. From his first ever tournament as an under-10 at Dunblane Sports Club in his native Scotland, his junior career included wins at the prestigious Orange Bowl and US Open junior tournaments, whilst his transition to the professional ranks quickly gave Britain their first teenager in the top 100 for thirty years. At 25, Andy is already the country’s most successful player of the Open era. He took part at London Olympics 2012 and won an Olympic Gold Medal in men’s singles and an Olympic Silver Medal in mixed doubles. Early this year he won the US Open.Murray began playing tennis at age 5 his coach was describing him as “unbelievably competitive”. Murray attributes his abilities to the motivation gained from losing to his older brother Jamie. Murray won his age group at the Orange Bowl, a prestigious event for junior players. He briefly played football before reverting to tennis.

Ryan Lochte is an American international swimmer and an eleven-time Olympic medalist who took part in London Olympic 2012. He is a bonafide free spirit in the swimming community. Ryan won lots of medals in many Olympics because of his serious hard work. Ryan has 6 Olympic medals to his name, including 3 golden. Lochte started his swimming career early under the tutelage of his father Steven and mother Ike, who claimed that their son had an amazing feel for the water by the time he was 5 or 6. Ryan was prone to goofing around however; his goal at practice was to get kicked out of the pool. Ryan continued persuing swimming with a heavy dose of horseplay until his junior year of high school, when it dawned on him that he had a real shot at being a professional swimmer. He won 1 bronze, 2 golden, 2 silver medals in London Olympics 2012. In 2011, he won the Golden Goggle race of the year, Male Athlete of the year, World Championships and Male Swimmer of the Meet.

You and your partner are driving somewhere in a new city and you are not familiar with the roads. You follow the directions given to you by your partner. It soon turns out, however, that you are lost. What are you most likely say?A. “I thought you knew how to get there.”B. “It’s ok. We enjoyed the drive anyway.”C. “I should have paid attention. When we made that left turn, I wanted to ask you about it but didn’t. My fault.”AnalysisA: “I thought you knew how to get there.” Not a very forgiving person, you are quick in assigning responsibility to others. Hidden in the accusatory tone is also anger or dissatisfaction that may or may not be related to the incident per se.B: “It’s ok. We enjoyed the drive anyway.” Easygoing and understanding in your attitude, you generally consider your partner equal to yourself. The readiness with which you tolerate your partner’s errors indicates a desire to be treated the same way in similar situations.C: “I should have paid attention. When we made the left turn back over there, I wanted to ask you about it but didn’t. My fault.” Self-effacing and self-accusatory, you demonstrate a tendency to bending over backwards to accommodate your partner. The relationship may be a truly sweet one, but possibly hidden in the attitude is also a certain amount of insecurity.

STAND OUTTHATSIGNS

80 - 81

October will be a rather intense month for you Leo, and you could be led on by exaggeration, rushed decisions, and risky initiatives. You’ll take several trips, meet many people, and find out some interesting and useful things about the world. This good streak will stay with you especially during the 22nd and 23rd; after that you may need to think about some more discipline and organization in your life.

This month Virgo, you will truly need to ‘walk the talk’ and stand by your beliefs. You will have a lot on your plate in terms of money matters for both your immediate needs and future gains. You could be vulnerable to running into disagreements this October so try your best to forget the disturbing issues of the past and move on to a more positive approach.

Your home or workspace may require renovation or expansion this month- perhaps even a shift. You want a space that will satisfy you both physically and mentally, so that you can create a strong foundation for yourself and have a secure place to return from the chaotic world outside. You will become cheerful and intellectual in terms of your approach with others this month, and fresh acquaintances and friendships will come to you, giving you inspiration and ideas.

CANCER (June 22-July 22)

LEO (July 23-Aug 22)

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 23)

Assuming you have learned from the lessons of the past, this October, the burdens upon you will be lighter and the constraints fewer. Quiet your mind and listen-sometimes a new idea that works can solve many problems and save you time! The full moon positively placed in Taurus leads you into a new era full of golden experiences and extraordinary relationships.

This is a very playful time of year for you when you are inspired both creatively and emotionally. After a period of self-protectiveness, you are now more spontaneous and willing to take risks. A fruitful and happy phase comes to you and you are enjoying it. Don’t fly too high or too far though; risky moves, rashness, and over-confidence may cause some danger. Handle yourself appropriately and you will gain high marks in both business and friendship.

This month you are more than ever passionate and daring. A desire for exciting activity is experienced in which you will choose to expand your activities and opportunities for high studies, travel, or new life goals. Closer to home, establishing a happy and harmonious work environment through friendly relations with co-workers will come into focus. You will find that your talents and skills are especially appreciated, but keep your eyes open in order to identify potential threats to your progress.

ARIES (Mar. 21-April 20)

TAURUS (Apr. 21-May 21)

GEMINI (May 22-June 21)

PISCES (Feb. 20-Mar. 20)

This month, you will favor a taste for the out of the ordinary. Regular affairs simply won’t seem to satisfy you anymore, and you will accept to take part in anything that expands your horizons both physically and emotionally. You will likely become more in contact with authority figures during this period, but keep in mind that it is more about how you communicate yourself than the essentials of what you say that help influence others.

Pending matters from the past may come to an end this month. Whether there was something causing you sorrow, you will soon learn to rid yourself of these pains and become more willing than usual to explore life’s secrets. This will be an especially introspective month, during which you will have the chance to uncover your personal strengths and talents. Communicate your feelings and you will gain all that you desire.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 21-Feb. 19)

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 20)

Group activities and joint efforts are the best way to accomplish your goals this month. You may experience that the tasks you usually take part in are rarely ever for you, but for others. Learn to balance those two, as you know you should always be number one in your life. There are a lot of highs and lows this month, but this will reorient your lifelong goals and values.

October will be your month for warmth, friendship, and cooperation at work. It will be a rather happy, goal-oriented month and a lively agenda is promised. You are bound to attract quite a bit of interest and your energy for making contact with others is at a high. This is your time to follow your dreams and to plant a seed as a wish for the future.

LIBRA(Sept. 24-Oct. 23)

SCORPIO(Oct. 24-Nov. 22)

SAGITTARIUS(Nov. 23-Dec. 21)

This October, an attraction to secrets and whispers will characterize your month. It will also become a time of endings, relationship concerns, and vagueness. For this reason, throw caution to the wind and avoid these secret dealings, especially those that are not clearly legitimate or justifiable. This is your time for introspective self-assessment with a degree of honesty and objectivity. It is also a fine phase to work on intellectual tasks with more vigor and passion.

You will have a greater sense of awareness of your own limitations this month, leading up to your birthday phase. This is not a good time to go overboard though in terms of self-pity, or in an attempt to solve the world’s problems. It might be a good idea to maintain a low profile and be less vocal as a means of getting along with others both professionally and personally. You will be more peace-loving than normal this month, somewhat detached on a personal level and more connected to the outside world.
