Sonday System Workbooks may be used for independent practice at teaching stations, for homework, or for seatwork. The workbooks are not meant to replace instructional sessions where interaction between the teacher and student(s) is extremely important, but to provide materials for independent practice to reinforce the skills being taught in the instructional setting. The activities and exercises provide opportunities to cement learning into long term memory because they are multi-sensory, because they reinforce learning and because they build confidence while providing variety and fun.

Sonday System 1 Workbooks provide practice with the following components:

alphabet• blending • capitalization • comprehension• critical thinking• creative thinking• grammar• handwriting• language flexibility• organizing • phoneme awareness/segmentation• phonics• phonological awareness• punctuation• reading• rules/generalizations• sentence completion • sequencing • sight words (non-phonetic words)• spelling• vocabulary•

New sounds or concepts introduced at each Level are noted at the top of each Workbook page. Sounds and concepts are reviewed at each level. Handwriting is practiced on every workbook page. Reading, blending, phonemic segmentation, phonics and spelling are incorporated on all but a very few pages.

The Teacher Guide and Workbook Answer Keys are in this book along with a Scope and Sequence and Skills Charts showing the skills that are practiced at each level. In the Answer Keys:

Some activities have multiple answers. In word • completion activities, the addition of any of several letters could result in a real word. For example: ma_ could become map, mat, man, mad. Sentence completion activities may include • more than one word or phrase to create sensible, meaningful sentences. There may be a word or phrase in any list that does • not fit or does not make sense. Correct student responses may be written in any • order in lists. Completed activities may be used for oral reading • practice at the next instructional session.

Consistent multi-sensory review—seeing, hearing, feeling—is crucially important for cementing concepts into memory.

Watch students grow in skill and confidence as they are able to practice concepts independently.
