Ourstudyoptionsmakeiteasyforyoutoreachyourcareergoals.

FuLL-tIMe studYFull-timecoursesrequireapproximately15to25(upto37.5)hoursofclassroomstudyperweek(normallyduringtheday)aswellasfurtherpersonalstudytime.

Mostfull-timequalificationsleadtoanationallyrecognisedcertificate,diplomaoradvanceddiplomawithinsixtotwelvemonthsandtheycanthenbeusedtoprogresstofurtherstudyorenterrelevantcareers.

Youcanapplyforfull-timestudyatanyofourmajorcampuses.

apprenticeshipuntilIwasdoingsomeworkasatradeassistantduringmyuniversityholidays.Ilovedthehands-onnatureofthejobanddecidedIwantedtochaseacareerinrefrigerationandairconditioning. IaskedmybossaboutanapprenticeshipandwasluckyenoughtosecurePolytechnicWestasmytraininginstitute.

ThelecturersatPolytechnicWestmademytime therereallyvaluable.Theyhaveallworkedintheindustryandreallyknowwhatthey’retalkingabout.IlikedthattheysuggestednewwaysofperformingcertaintasksthatImaynothavepickedupwhenworkingon-the-job.

ThededicationofthelecturerswasmatchedbythefacilitiesIworkedinwhiledoingmyoff-the-jobtraining.TherangeoftrainingutilitiesperfectlyreplicatedsituationsIwasrequiredtodealwithintheworkplace,butalsoofferedmeexperienceworkinginsituations Ididn’tencounterinmyemployment.Ilikedspendingabitoftimelearningthetheorybehindtheskills Iwouldberequiredtohaveasatradesman,andthengettingthechancetoputthoseskillsintopracticethatdayorweek.

IcompletedacertificateIIinBusinessandacertificateIIinAnimalStudiesinyear11,thenIwentontocompleteacertificateIVinVetNursinginyear12,workingtwoandahalfdaysaweekatGEOvetVeterinaryHospitalgaininginvaluableworkplaceexperience,andstudyingatschooltheothertwoandahalfdaysaweek.

IbecamethefirstpersoninWesternAustraliatocompletethecertificateIVinVetNursingwhilestillatschool,andwonthe2013BeazleyMedalfortopVocationalhighschoolstudentinthestate.Myeffortswerefurtherrecognisedwiththe2013PolytechnicWestTraineeoftheYearaward.

AfterfinishingatPolytechnicWestIwasofferedtheopportunitytogoontostudyadegreeofanimalscienceatuniversityin2014,withatransferintoveterinarysciencein2015.Ideferredthisoptionbyayeartoworkfull-timeatGEOvetin2014andgainfurtherworkplaceexperience.

MytrainingpathwaythroughPolytechnicWestwashighlyvaluableasitallowedmetogainworkplaceexperienceandstillobtainmyWesternAustraliancertificateofEducation(WAcE)forcompleting highschool.
