Dear Friend,

The Arboretum’s mission has never been so important. The environment is facing immense challenges. Because students and interns provide the greatest return on our investment in operations, we are asking you to help us double our budget to $200,000 for this far-reaching program.

Your donation will support these immediate benefits: Students and interns are hired at a very low rate. For some, it is matched by the University. These future leaders provide the regular daily hours that many volunteers cannot cover. Students and interns are the backbone of our operations, helping with greenhouse propagation, trail clearing, plant irrigation and seed collecting. They also support Arboretum office operations and help staff with community events.

Please invest in our students’ future. The Arboretum’s “living laboratory” develops students’ critical thinking about sustainable horticulture, ecological restoration, environmental education and the importance of scientific research. Most importantly for all of us, they become environmental advocates and carry solutions to environmental, climate, water and community issues with them as they go into the world.

“I took my very first internship at the Arboretum, and I will always be grateful for it because it sparked

in me a life changing curiosity for learning about botany and conserving native plants. I have never looked at the natural world the same way again.” — Katherine

“Working at the arboretum has served as an excellent learning atmosphere that has helped me narrow my focus of study. It has been an honor to work with such beautiful

and unique plant collections and learn from highly experienced curators.” — Taelor

“Working here has only strengthened my love and passion for horticulture.” — Remy

“My internship at the Arboretum was a life-changing experience. I developed a deep passion for the environment that has driven my life and career to this very day.” — Samantha
