Lone Star College-CyFair Student Life 2014-2015 Student Organization Recognition Awards

The Student Life Dept. cordially invites all students, faculty and staff to submit nominations for the 2014-2015 Student Organization Recognition Awards. These awards recognize advisors and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to LSC- CyFair and the community. The announcement of award winners will be on May 1, 2015, held at 7:00 p.m. in the Conference Center at the Student Life Awards Banquet. All registered student organizations and advisors are eligible to participate who have completed all required paperwork with the Center for Student Life.

Individual application forms are available to interested participants. Be sure to follow the directions carefully and fill out the forms completely. All nomination forms are due to the Center for Student Life by 5:00pm April 15, 2015. No late forms will be accepted. Individual application forms are available to interested participants at the Center for Student Life. For additional information or assistance, contact the office at 281.290.3442.

Awards will be presented to recognize advisors and organizations that have shown excellence and achievement in a variety of areas that include, but, are not limited to: fulfillment of purpose, community service, membership involvement, leadership activity and community service. The review committee will select one organization from the recipients that will represent the Outstanding Organization of the Year. The award categories follow:

Advisor of the Year-This award recognizes the advisor whose ability to support, educate, and encourage the student organization goes above and beyond the expected norm. This advisor has demonstrated remarkable dedication to, and support of the organization. The advisor’s role and service to the organization will also be taken into consideration. Nominations for this category must come from a member of the student organization that the nominee advises.

Most Improved Student Organization-This award recognizes the dedication of a student organization showing improvement in activities that meet their goals and objectives as stated in the organization’s purpose. Additional criteria for this award include activities that have caused change and improvement for the organization, growth in the organization membership, increased member involvement and development, improved programs, created opportunity for member participation, and collaboration with other campus organizations or events.

Outstanding Newcomer Student Organization - This award recognizes outstanding achievement of a newer student organization within the past two years. The organization must have been registered at Lone Star for two years or less. The review criteria will include the organizations ability to meet the goals and objectives stated in their constitution. The organization should demonstrate a high level of achievement in one or more areas, such as membership involvement, organization development, leadership training and opportunity for members, shown active participation in Lone Star campus activities, and community service.

Lone Star College-CyFair Student Life 2014-2015 Student Organization Recognition Awards

Student Organization of the Year-This award recognizes the paramount achievement of a registered student organization over the year that causes the organization to stand out as compared to other organizations. The criteria in review are reflective of the organization’s ability to meet their goals and objectives as stated in their current constitution. The recipient organization will have demonstrated a high level of achievement in many areas, including membership involvement, organization development, leadership training and opportunity, active participation in Lone Star campus activity, and, community service.

Outstanding Contribution to the Greater Community by a Student Organization-Recognizes a student organization that made a meaningful contribution to the surrounding community through service, addressed an existing problem, was committed to working with and for others, and successfully inspired and motivated others to act.

Student Organization Leader of the Year-Recognizes a student leader who provided exemplary service, commitment, and strong leadership to a student organization and Lone Star College-CyFair; made a meaningful contribution to members of the organization; motivated the group; made him/herself available to student organization members and brought out strengths and talents of individuals in the group; exemplified integrity in all words and actions; and demonstrated initiative by seeking ways to challenge the present and enrich the future.

Outstanding Advisor Lifetime Achievement-Recognizes an advisor who has at least five years of experience as a student organization advisor at Lone Star College-CyFair; has had a positive impact on a student organization and the University community; and demonstrates strong advising skills, is readily available to students, and takes great strides to help the organization's leaders.

Student Leadership Legacy-Recognizes a student leader whose long-term dedication and commitment have made a positive impact on sustaining the visibility of a student organization. Presented to a long-standing member of the organization that has left a positive mark on the group and at Lone Star College-CyFair, and will be graduating in May 2015.

Quiet Influence/Unsung Hero-Recognizes a student that puts his/her heart and soul into everything he/she does, but often goes unrecognized, works "behind the scenes," goes above and beyond typical requirements of a student organization member

The Harrell Award-Dr. Ivan Harrell is not only the Vice President of Student Success, but a great supporter of Student Life. He has dedicated a vast amount of time in assisting Student Life in becoming the fun, vibrant, dedicated, and organized department which supports all clubs and organizations today. This award recognizes a student that has dedicated their time to assisting various clubs/organizations, student life with event setup, or volunteering their time to make a difference throughout the campus.
