STUDENT OFFERED USA FOOTBALL SCHOLARSHIP GIRLS FOOTBALL ACADEMY STUDENT GEORGIA RICHARDSON IS OFFERED USA SCHOLARSHIP Year 13 student Georgia Richardson has recently secured a four-year soccer scholarship to study at West Liberty University in West Virginia, USA. After completing her GCSE studies at Whitley Bay High School, Georgia chose Durham Sixth Form Centre to combine her passion for football with our extensive range of subjects, choosing Drama and Theatre, Performing Arts and Sport, alongside our highly successful Girls Football Academy. Georgia began playing football as a nine-year old in Newcastle and progressed through grass roots football with local teams before playing for the County and starting with the Regional Talent Centre where she played for two years before getting a place in their reserve team as a right back. Since making contact with a scouting company which selects top players to play football and study in the US, Georgia has played two or three times a year at showcase events, when soccer coaches from all over the world come to watch the footballers play. Last Christmas at one of these matches, she played exceptionally well and eight US colleges expressed an interest in her. After much deliberation, Georgia narrowed her choice down to West Liberty University, West Virginia in the USA. The university has offered her a scholarship for her tuition and living costs during the four years of her study while she is also training and playing football for the universitys team. Following on from her studies here at Durham Sixth Form Centre, Georgia will be studying theatre alongside her football commitments. As part of the selection process, she recently took the American SAT exams, coming out with the top grade, which has led her theatre professor to offer her an extra bursary as well as her football scholarship. After her final exams in June here at Durham Sixth Form Centre, Georgia will prepare to head over to West Liberty University to start their Freshers programme in August before beginning her studies and training in the USA for the next four years. We would like to wish Georgia all the very best for her studies in the USA and her future career in football.
